I like the volume sets. As a kid I would always collect volume sets the most. Especially the What’s New Scooby Doo Volumes Themes.

I was so bummed when I collected all the Pup, What's New, and SDMI volume sets...and then they came out with the season sets, which were less money and took up less shelf space. I ended up buying the season sets for Pup and What's New anyway just so I could have them, but I just kept the volume sets for SDMI and didn't invest in the season sets.

I also discovered something about What’s New Scooby Doo Volume sets. It might be a little weird to share this with you guys but I think it was a fun thing to do. You know What’s News volume sets themes: Halloween Boos and Clues, Merry Scary Holiday, Sports Spooktacular, Monster Matinee, Ghosts On The Go, Zoinks, Camera, Action, Route Scary Six, and Monstrous Tails. When I was younger it came to mind that episodes of The Scooby Doo Show, fits in each of those volumes theme. I can share with you guys in my next comment.

Definitely season sets! It saves money, it puts episodes in order into one very convenient set, and it looks nice on the shelf to have all the shows in order that way in either season sets or complete series sets.

There is no guarantee that the rest of get a clue will ever get released on dvd, I hate to say it but I somehow doubt it will happen.

Unless they are taking a risk and just releasing a collectors' set (maybe through WB Archive, but idk if the series is old enough for that), I think you're right that it's unlikely it will happen. I presume they stopped releasing the volumes of Get a Clue because of poor sales, so I think WB is going to be very hesitant about releasing that show again unless it's mixed with other episodes on a compilation set.

As a fellow DVD collector, I agree. Streaming is fine but I would never trust a stream long term. If I want to watch Star Wars or a season of Star Trek or some Scooby cartoons, all of which I have and will watch many times over, I want a trusty dvd on hand rather than leave it to the availability whims of the streaming service.

Stuff can be removed so easily too if a copyright issue arises or whatever contract the streaming service has agreed to expires, so watching something on streaming isn't really ever "yours" like a DVD or Blu-Ray is. 7/26/2021 10:11:48 am
I prefer the season sets too. Volume sets take up a ton of shelf space and are super expensive compared to the season sets, plus it just looks more complete/organized. The only reason I sometimes like the compilation sets is because they sometimes include previously unreleased episodes that are hard for them to release sales-wise (i.e. Get a Clue, the Scrappy shorts, etc.) I totally agree with you about physical media. There's kind of a sense of accomplishment that comes with physically owning a piece of media, because there are so many pitfalls that can come with streaming - the Internet being down/slow, possible rights issues developing that can cause the streaming service to remove episodes, etc.

As a child, I enjoyed volume sets or season sets. The more episodes the better, unfortunately volume sets were more common. When I was really young the only real option was compilation sets due them being on VHS. Now that we live in the digital age, I have to give the advantage to streaming due to the ease of access and the lack of physical storage needed.

That's a fair perspective. I often find myself just going on my Boomerang account and watching Scooby rather than watching a DVD. Streaming is definitely more convenient, but I feel there's a sense of accomplishment that comes with owning a physical copy of a DVD that you don't really get from just streaming episodes.

Some shows of seasons simply get released as volume sets instead of season sets, I know this for a fact since I have plenty of volume sets myself. for example I have 6 DVD volume sets of the cartoon Danger mouse (2015 series), and together they contain The whole of season 1 together. but it has never been released as a season set however.

WB's philosophy in the past seems to be to release volume sets first, and then if they perform well enough sale-wise, we get season sets. It happened with Pup, What's New, Get a Clue, SDMI and Be Cool, though Get a Clue and Be Cool didn't financially perform well enough for them to release season sets for those (or complete releasing the volumes for that matter). That can be kind of frustrating for those of us who want the season sets, but settle for the volume sets, only to find out later that WB is releasing season sets anyway. It seems like they're maybe switching that philosophy up though, given we got the first season of Guess Who as a season set right away.

I have always found compilations fascinating. I loved the 13 Spooky Tales and I love the 50 cartoon collection (despite its flawed episode choices, see more here: https://scoobyaddicts.proboards.com/thread/5373/scooby-doo-50-cartoon-collection?page=2)

I find compilations super interesting too! The themes are always fun, and I love that it gives them the freedom to mix in one or two previously unreleased episodes sometimes, so that WB doesn't have to worry about the episodes not selling well like they would if they put out an entire set of those episodes. It's exciting to see if an unreleased episode will make the set.

So, it turns lots of people are not not happy that Velma is going to be Indian in nature in her own show.

Yeah just because they change the race or even sometimes the gender of a character doesn't mean they are going to act any different they will just look and sound different

I really don't get everyone being overly negative about this either. There's so little that's been announced about this, and to judge it on a few details seems very short-sighted to me. I thought The Cop made a good point below that changing the race of a character doesn't mean that they're "ruining" this character. They're just exploring a different aspect of the franchise. Worst case scenario, even if this is terrible, then there's always the next Scooby show. I don't understand why people get so worked up about things like this.

I haven't owned any physical media in years (and barely any my whole life in general), so yeah, streaming for me all the way

Interesting. I've owned physical media since I was a child, so that probably influences my preference for owning physical copies of things at least somewhat.
