Thanks to Samuel Kirkwood for suggesting this poll question!
Here are the results from last week's poll. I'm shocked with both how close this poll was, and by the winner! Which of the main voice actors from SCOOB! (not including Frank Welker) did the best job? Will Forte - 26 Amanda Seyfried - 25 Zac Efron - 18 Gina Rodriguez - 9

Something I absolutely hated about some episodes especially the one at the hospital, Velma said she had to make a phone call which I felt was a lazy way to conclude the episode and find out who the monster is.

I guess I didn’t have any issue with Velma calling someone in the Kristen Schaal episode. There are definitely instances where the inclusion of technology has been cringey though, like where Scooby uses a cell phone in the Batman Guess Who episode.

true but I don't think that bothered me much since it didn't effect the plot

Positive. You have to adapt with time, not live in the past. And the franchise has been doing that since the beginning, just like any another thing out there.

Agreed on all points except that they can’t just keep doing what they did in the 70s. I don’t think it’s a necessity to include technology in every modern show, because there are definitely ways of not setting a series/film in a certain time period. You could have a character use a landline phone, for example, if you didn’t want to get too modern and include cell phones.

I don't see why someone would try to avoid setting something in the present though. The first few Scooby-Doo shows were obviously 60s-70s, the Tom Ruegger era was clearly 80s and so on. And technology has always been in Scooby (and most other things), and it was up-to-date with the technology that existed at the time (unless you're making a period piece or sci fi obviously). 1/11/2021 03:41:21 pm
As an adult fan I definitely agree each show was very much obviously the generation it premiered in. Just to play devil's advocate though, I'm not sure if certain shows (Where Are You, for example) are set enough in those eras that the technology in them wouldn't be relevant today, especially for kids who aren't going to probably pick on the 60s/70s/80s, etc. feel. from each show.

Imo I don't really think it has impacted the franchise that much yeah some episodes can be cringey with it's technology use but the franchise in the modern as a whole hasn't really been impacted that much with the introduction of modern day technology

I agree the franchise hasn't been impacted overly much. There are certainly instances of it, but nothing that would make me think of technology's inclusion in the franchise overall as negative.

I vote no real impact but I feel neutral is more of the word. I think you have to adapt but it’s not gonna be the same as the old ones for better or worse. I just think it’s a part of a long running franchise

I voted "no real impact". I mean the scooby franchise is fully adapted in the 21st century and its technology without using to much of it. Also technology zips perfectly with some members of the gang and their characters. For example Daphne is a diva after all so she must have obsession with social media and taking selfies. Velma also could develop apps or searching info on the web etc.

You bring up some great points. Technology has always been a part of the Scooby franchise since the eighth episode, with Charlie the Robot in "Foul Play in Funland." I think technology can work great in a show if it works with the characters' personalities, and is not just thrown in to be trendy (kind of like the scene with Scooby's cell phone in the Batman Guess Who episode felt).

Thanks for using my question! The main reason I suggested this was to ask how has it affected the mysteries. Has the development of technology negatively impacted the overall mysteries and the suspense element. Part of the reason I asked this was because so many of the earlier series were loved so much and I was wondering whether the development of technology has made it harder for writers to come up with decent Scooby Doo Mysteries or whether it has had no real effect.

Of course! It's a great question and it's created some interesting dialogue! I don't think technology has made it harder for them to come up with Scooby mysteries, in fact I'd say it's helped in some cases like the Be Cool episode with the A.I. as the villain.

Thanks, after reading others points I went with no real impact as well. Although technology may have made it easier to decipher villains it has also helped villains in their disguises and schemes, thus balancing it out.

I honestly have no problem with technology in the series. As long has they don't heavily rely on it to the point the series stop feeling like Scooby Doo.

My philosophy exactly. The use of technology in Scooby has fit quite well for the most part.

It really has. But I don't know how I felt seeing Scooby with a phone though. Who's paying that bill!? lol!

Hey guys I’m a little late in this pole and I don’t now if someone already mentioned it but what about wrestle mania mystery? At the diner the gang were attached to their technological devices. Velma on her laptop, Fred on with his camera and Daphne on her cell phone.
