Before we dive into this week's poll, here are the results for last week's!

What is your favorite episode where the culprit is never seen or mentioned before the unmasking?

This week's poll is something I've always wondered about! My assumption has been that many fans buy just the sets with themes that interest them, or collect any set that's released. However, I'm really curious to know how all of you collect Scooby-Doo home media sets!

A big part of my inspiration for creating the How to Have a Complete Scooby-Doo Collection Guide is because I only collect the releases I need to own all the episodes. If a release comes out that eliminates the need to own a different release, I'll usually sell the DVDs I don't need anymore. For example, when Scooby's All-Star Laff A Lympics: The Complete Series Blu-Ray was released, I sold the previous volume sets and Spooky Games. (Don't take away my Scooby fan card, lol)

There are a few exceptions to this. I have nostalgia over the Winter Wonderdog and Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies sets, so I keep those despite owning the Almost Complete Collection and Holiday Chills and Thrills set. I also have kept the Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Volume 1 VHS out of nostalgia, and The Ghoul, The Bat and the Ugly & To Switch a Witch because I always wanted that one as a kid before we got the complete first series of Scrappy lol.

Since last mentioning my journey to collect all the rare Scooby VHS tapes with episodes unreleased anywhere else, I got super lucky and was able to find the Puppy Dog Tales VHS! The next one on my list is the Hanna-Barbera's Personal Favorites tape. Thus far, I've found a lot of UK versions of the tape online, but haven't seen the US version of the tape anywhere thus far.

I don't think I've ever shared pics of my full Scooby home media collection on here! I've attached pics below :) Would love to see pics of others' collections if you want to share!

These are already in the other photos, but here are the rare pieces of Scooby media that I'm proud to own! :) As you can see, I got the Puppy Dog Tales VHS since last mentioning my goal of collecting the Scooby VHS tapes with unreleased media! The only VHS that I'm still looking to add to my collection is the Hanna-Barbera Personal Favorites tape.

I have a Majority of the DVD releases, still have a few VHS releases from childhood, and was thinking of expanding into blu-ray. I also have mp4 of most unreleased episodes, I just need to find a great quality of the second and third season of The Scooby Doo & Scrappy Doo Show 2nd series.

I have a lot a bunch of the unreleased series as digital downloads too. Back in 2012, I bought the complete series of Puppy Hour, The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show and Get a Clue on iTunes. I also have DVR recordings of the unreleased Richie Rich Hour episodes when they aired on Boomerang in 2010. The only unreleased episodes I don't have access to are "Wednesday Is Missing" and Be Cool season 2. I've been waiting for the latter to come to Tubi; I think I might do a rewatch since it's been a couple years. I always just watched them on the Boomerang streaming service previously, but maybe I'll eventually buy the season on Apple TV if they aren't released on DVD and don't stay on Tubi.

I have "Wednesday is Missing" and Be Cool, Scooby Doo Season 2 saved as backup video files on my flash drives. I can share them with you if you're interested; I think they're either 1080p or 720p, been a while since I last checked.

My mistake, they're 640 x 480 for BCSD S2 and 480 x 360 for Wednesday is missing, I hope that's fine.

I’ll have to come back in here and share my collection later, but I will say I am kind of in a weird spot where none of the options fit me perfectly. I do collect physical media, so the last option is out the window for me.

But other than that, it kinda depends on what it is because there is some Scooby Doo I don’t really have an interest in owning and some I wouldn’t even take for free. Those would be the Guess Who DVDs, Curse of the 13th Ghost, and especially Return to Zombie Island among others. But overall, the first option is applicable when it comes to what media I actually care about to own, which is a lot more than not in the franchise

The second option is kind of where I am leaning because I am a Scooby Doo VHS collector. There are a few times where these VHS are the only release for an episode (I actually do have the Hanna Barbera Personal Favorites VHS which was kind of my white whale VHS even with The Secret of Shark Island being released on DVD by now), but I collect other ones as well, including different released for different movies and episodes that I otherwise already own

But the second option doesn’t entirely fit me either as I do not view DVDs the same way. I don’t need a “Kids Favorites 4 pack” of movies I already own, and I especially no longer had a need for my DVD copies of movies like Zombie Island, Witch’s Ghost, and Alien Invaders now that I have upgraded to Blu Ray for those movies, so I gave my old DVDs away

I guess you could say the third selection could fit me, but I feel like I do more than that, so I will just go with option 2 here

I added a fifth option that I think fits you somewhat better, and would be applicable to others. I hadn't really thought about fans who are very focused on one format, but aren't necessarily fully dedicated to getting all content from others.

The appeal of getting the Personal Favorites VHS for me is "Wizards and Warlocks." Having the Sonny and Cher episode on VHS would be cool, but I mainly want it for that unreleased episode. Also, I'm with you on not having an interest in owning a couple pieces of media. Even with my goal of collecting all Scooby VHS tapes that have episodes unreleased on other formats, I'm totally skipping over the Rompin' Romance tape that has "Bride and Gloom." The episode is so awful that I couldn't care less about owning that tape lol. I'd feel the same way if they ever put out a Velma DVD set. Besides those two, I think "Scooby Dooby Guru" would be the only episode I don't care to own.

Agreed on that, but it was especially a priority before The Secret of Shark Island was on DVD. Though perhaps that episode being on DVD is the reason I was able to find this lol

Agreed on Velma, though I think I would have to hang my head in shame for the VHS just as a collector’s item lmao. With how trollish Velma's writing was, it wouldn't surprise me if the writers pulled one last troll move and only released the show on VHS lol.

Your collection is super cool, thanks for sharing! Looks like we have a lot of the same DVDs for the series, even down to the volume sets for SDMI. A bit surprised you don't own Be Cool, although I know you mostly have nostalgia for the classic era, so maybe that one doesn't fall in that category for you. I used to own that Saturday Morning Cartoons DVD you have, but actually just got rid of that one within the past few months. It is a cool sampler, but ultimately I didn't care about most of the other shows on there, and I didn't personally find it worth keeping for one Scooby episode.

I like all your different covers of the 80s films! Super cool, I didn't even know the "Hanna-Barbera movies" cover for the Boo Brothers existed. I didn't realize you also had the Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Volume 1 tape, that's neat! Do you have any other Scooby VHS tapes you're looking to add to your collection?

It is nothing like that with Be Cool. I would like to add them as I really like that series. Haven’t come across them yet or thought about ordering them online, but maybe I will do that soon

Yeah, I am more of a Hanna Barbera fan than most here, so all of those Saturday Morning Cartoons sets are probably more of interest to me than most here (Except the 80s one, other than the Flintstones stuff I don’t think there is much there so I don’t have that one)

I was surprised I came across that cover for Boo Brothers as well, but I thought it was really cool. Those different covers for those movies are kind of what turned my interest much towards the collecting aspect rather than just needing everything once as I think those covers are really cool, though I think there may be another one for Ghoul School out there I don’t have

As for other ones, I do want to eventually complete the Hanna Barbera compilation ones like Puppy Dog Tales and similar sets. I also want to get all of those clamshell Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo VHS, all of the volumes like the one I already have, though that may never happen, those are hard to find. I also want the clamshell VHS with High Rise Hair Raiser and The Fiesta Host is an Aztec Ghost as the local High Rise Hair Raiser stan lol, but that one is likely going to be expensive. There may be more I am not thinking of, but those seem to be the biggest ones left as a collector

That makes sense on Be Cool! I feel you on that, it was only recently that I completed my collection with the few DVDs I didn't have physically (i.e. Spooky Stampede and some of the more recent movies).

I also really like the different 80s variant covers! It's neat that they made so many. Yep, there is another Ghoul School cover: https://scoobymuseum.com/Images/Collectibles/0585L.jpg I think this one actually might be my fave of the three US covers (there was also a fourth cover of Shaggy, Scooby and Mummy Daddy only released internationally).

Yeah those are all pretty rare from what I've seen, especially the Scrappy volumes. It's cool that you were able to find a couple of them, though! The Puppy Dog Tales VHS was super expensive; it cost nearly $200 to get that one. It seems near impossible to find though, so I was willing to splurge a bit more with that one than I normally am lol.

I’ll need to keep my eye out for that one, it must be the rarest of these 80s covers

$200 is a lot… not sure I could do that but maybe in the future if I just can’t find anything cheaper after years, or it is literally the only time I see them. I got the Personal Favorites, the Scrappy clamshell and A Dog in the Ruff at much cheaper than they otherwise would go for. Probably either people who didn’t know how rare they were or people just trying to get rid of stuff

BTW, I just got the 13 Spooky Tales DVD sets I didn't have: Ruh Roh Robot, For the Love of Snack, and Field of Screams. I had all of these before but had previously sold them before I got back into Scooby Doo, and were essential for The New Scooby Doo Mysteries and The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show. But most importantly, For the Love of Snack is crucial due to the all time masterpieces of Hot House Scooby and Scooby Doo 2000 lol

There are still some others I need to get, with Be Cool right at the top of my list

Probably like 5 years or so in the late 2010s, which is why that area is such a weak spot for me in terms of not having seen the movies and stuff. Luckily, I eventually rediscovered Be Cool and had that one finally click for me

This is actually a pretty interesting question. For me the Scooby Doo DVDs that I have, and a VHS tape, fit into two categories.

There's the episodes and series I looked online for and bought, say the Mook era movies, Legend of the Vampire, Boo Brothers and the other two movies of that era, a few WNSD volumes, SDWAY complete series, etc. The Scooby episodes and movies that I really like enough to want to own physically essentially.

Then there's some DVDs and the tape where I bought them since I came across them either cheap or for a fair price in a charity shop, thrift shop or school second hand stuff fundraiser sale (I phrased that last one a bit poorly, hopefully you get what i mean) and bought them. So The Spookiest Tales DVD, Legend of the Phantosaur, the complete set of volumes for SDMI (admittedly the two Hex Girls episodes are ones I would've wanted but I don't like the series entirely overall as you know) and the VHS tape I can't remember the name of now which had Wednesday is Missing on it (I think I mentioned that to you in a message at some point). Essentially finds where its a case of I may as well buy it if I just came across it at a cheap price.

Admittedly though I have slacked a bit on collecting Scooby DVDs. The last one I bought was Boo Brothers, and that was pre-Covid. Need to get BCSD Season 1, Camp Scare and the SDGW ones (for the Hex Girls episode naturally). Along with the remaining episodes of WNSD, got volumes 3 and 5 along with a DVD of 8 other episodes. What 8 episodes I don't know, as from a quick look at the box its clear it has the alien and safari episodes from the cover but doesn't actually list any episode names on the back strangely.

As for buying duplicates I would try not to do that, but if say like Spookiest tales a DVD had duplicates of episodes I had (in that case the SDWAY episodes) but had episodes I didn't I'd be fine buying it, provided it was at a price I considered reasonable.

The "Wednesday Is Missing" VHS you had is either Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family, or the Scooby-Doo Meets the Three Stooges/Scooby-Meets the Addams Family double feature. I remember we talked about it a while back, but I can't remember which version you had. Either way you got super lucky in finding that one. There's a copy currently selling on eBay for $1,850!

For the What's New Scooby-Doo volumes you'd need, it would just be volumes 1 and 2 which have the first eight episodes on it. It's interesting that the UK and US volumes have the episodes in different orders, yet both still had the first eight episodes on the first two volumes.

Same for me on the compilations. I'll buy it if it even has a single episode that isn't on another set (don't tell WB, they could make a lot of money off of me that way lol), but if it was a pure double-dip I would ignore it even if it had an interesting theme.

Ah I think the VHS tape is the former one then. Bizarre it could be listed for sale for that much, since I know people overprice stuff on eBay these days but even so. Sure its needed to have a complete series of TNSDM, but I wouldn't think there would be that much demand. Since even if it had the Addams Family in it, its not that great an episode.

Ah I'll keep that in mind for WNSD. Indeed is odd the episodes are in different orders between the US and UK. I've come across a few odd changes like that when looking at DVDs from other series. A strange one is when a DVD is released in both the US and UK only in English, yet the description on the back of the box for the episodes or movie is not the same text and instead is slightly different in how it describes it. For seemingly no reason too, not like anything offensive was removed or spellings changed.

Boo Brothers is the only DVD I may truly consider double dipping on, given the DVD I have is a more recent release and its cover/casing is coloured differently. Its the same cover as the original release, just with part of it turquoise and it fades into the original cover. So on the shelf next to Ghoul School and Reluctant Werewolf it really strongly clashes since their cases aren't like that. Which is a silly reason to consider buying another I know, hence why I wouldn't only buy it if I saw it super cheap.

It seems very overpriced to me too. I know it's pretty rare, but I know of several people in the fandom who have it, so I don't think it's worth quite that much lol.

I've seen that before too, and have always wondered why they wrote separate descriptions. Seems like it would be cheaper to just use one, but who knows. I find it odd in general that they make different volume sets for different regions. The strangest example imo is Be Cool season 1 was internationally released in four volumes instead of two parts. Not sure why they would go to the trouble of creating entirely different sets for international releases, especially given it'd probably cost them more than streamlining the same two sets across all countries.

Oh I've seen that one! I like the original cover much better too. The fully purple background and clock/eyes glaring at them from the secret passage feels more atmospheric than the new cover.

Ah I love your collection! As for my sister's and I's, it's honestly really random. we have nearly all the films, and we have that one what's new + the Scooby Doo show set in the mystery machine box plus some of the new Scooby Doo movies from the 50th anniversary dvd. I honestly would love to have a full scooby collection, but there are some films/shows I have no interest in buying for full price, so it's kind of if I see a deal I'll grab it.

Sorry - a bit late to this discussion.

I am an amalgam of two of the answers.
I'm certainly after as many eps as I can get, but ion disk not VHS or other tape.
While a lot of my collection are on DVD (as that's the only disk release) I'll grab any BluRay to update.

That begs the question of 4K for some stuff, like the theatrical releases...

So WAY, New Movies and LaL were must gets when re-released on BluRay. Same with the DTV movies.

And interestingly, two eps of Mystery Incorporated have been released in HD on BlueRay:
1. Beware the Beast from Below (Camp Scare DTV BluRay)
8. Menace of the Manitcore (Big Top DTV BluRay)

Thanks for popping in to share your answer! It's so interesting to me how inconsistent the Blu-Ray release strategy has been. You would think with the medium growing that they'd try to get more Blu-Ray releases out of certain shows. It really surprises me that only two episodes of SDMI are available on Blu-Ray.
