We've been doing this recurring characters poll series for over two months. Now, it's finally time to bring all the winning options together to determine the best recurring character! The final spot for this week's poll went to The Harlem Globetrotters, who had a strong lead over any other option.

this one is tough but i think my pick has to be Sheriff Stone

i know The Hex Girls (probably mostly Thorn) will probably win but i just went with Sheriff Stone cause he has some of the funniest one liners and Patrick Warburton is a great pick for the character (easily makes me think of Joe Swanson from Family Guy)

I split up The Hex Girls to make it a little more interesting (I think they would have been automatic winners if they would have been together). I agree with you that Thorn still has a very good chance of winning, though.

18. Gigi - Don't particularly care about her character or the series she's in.

17. Simone - Guess Who had some a weak roster of recurring characters imo. I get why she won, but I personally found her character annoying when I recently rewatched the series.

16. Yabba-Doo - Not a fan of most of the Yabba shorts. Yabba's the best character of any of them, but I think his characterization could still be stronger compared to a lot of these.

14. Yogi Bear - I like all of these Laff-a-Lympics characters, but they don't rise to the level of any of the recurring characters from regular series.

13. Snagglepuss - Easily my favorite commentator from Laff-A-Lympics. He works really well with that series.

12. Captain Cutler (Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!) - One of the few instances where re-imagining a classic villain works super well for me. I think they did it in a way that is very amusing, and fits well with the tone of this show. Still can't believe he won his round, though.

11. Del Chillman - This is where it gets very tough, because there is a big step up in quality right before the top 10. Del is a really cool character! I like that they had him appear in two What's New movies. He fits very well within the context of both of them.

10. Robi - Omg I love Robi, and I'm so happy he won his round! He brings a wonderful energy to this show. So many of his silly lines are amazing.

9. Red Herring - The standout recurring character of Pup for sure. His rivalry with Fred is very amusing and I can't wait to see what they do with him in the live-action show. Also, https://www.youtube.com/shorts/CoAGsxzWwfA

8. Gibby Norton - He works so well as a rival for Velma! He's the perfect mix of nerdy and annoying, and (spoilers for WNSD) I love the recurring trope of him being the villain.

7. Dusk - The Hex Girls would have been a cheat code to win if they were together, so I decided to split them up to make it more interesting. I like Dusk a lot, but a few other characters rise above her.

6. Luna - I really wish I could rank her and Dusk higher. When it comes to characterization though, objectively I feel like they are not characterized very much beyond the surface-level outside of Witch's Ghost. I remember being actually surprised to rewatch their episodes/films in research for my Hex Girls fanfic several years ago, and realizing we actually know very little about their characters besides the info we get in Witch's Ghost.

5. Vincent Van Ghoul - He is the perfect recurring character for 13 Ghosts. He serves to ground so much of the show, and is an excellent mentor for the gang.

4. Scooby-Dum - Oh god, this is so hard at this point lol. I absolutely love Scooby-Dum, and would love to see him brought back again. His dopiness is so endearing, and I think he works really well alongside Scooby. This is the tiebreaker that brought him down a little, but I will say that recently rewatching Laff-A-Lympics made me realize I don't like his character there. He's boiled down to an overly generic "dumb" caricature there, and even his voice sounds kinda off to me. I love me some Scooby-Dum, but his appearances in Laff-A-Lympics felt much lower quality than I remembered.

3. Sheriff Stone - My top 3 felt like an impossible choice, but I'm going with Sheriff Stone here. Even if he wasn't my vote, I'm still really glad he won his round. Such a funny comedy relief character that has a lot of warmth to him as the series goes on.

2. The Harlem Globetrotters - They fit so well that they are unofficial sixth members of the gang as far as I'm concerned, especially Meadowlark and Curly. They would have won if they weren't up against...

1. Thorn - I have such a huge soft spot for The Hex Girls. While the other two don't have a lot of characterization, Thorn is characterized very well and I think she's the best recurring character in Scooby-Doo.

My favorite isn't even here lol. As much as pure unabashed bias wants me to give it to Scooby-Dum, I'll go with Sheriff Stone though cuz he is such an entertaining yet layered character. And he left such an impact that fans keep asking for him to reused again.

Oh shoot! I didn’t see the Hex Girls were options and I picked Vincent Van Ghoul! I’m going to be cheeky and say all of the Hex Girls and Vincent Van Ghoul hehe

As per usual, Velma and Get a Clue will not be included in my ranking, though also as per usual, I am sure Velma would be last place anyway

16. Simone- It is truly regrettable that a Guess Who guest star had to make the final poll at all. Simone represents the appropriate ranking for any of those dire excuses of recurring characters

15. Captain Cutler (Be Cool version)- Maybe I am alone on the hill, but I'll die on it. This shtick would have worked way better with an original version, and using Captain Cutler in this role is extremely cheesy in an unfunny way. And also, did they really have to choose one of the most frightening classic villains to fill this comedic role? I think Redbeard actually would have worked better

14. Yabba Doo- Somehow, a huge step up from the last two. I am mostly just indifferent to Yabba as a character

13. Scooby Dum- Another big step up here as I genuinely like the rest of these, but here is the thing: Scooby Dum is a representative here for the Laff a Lympics, not the Scooby Doo Show. I am of the opinion that Scooby Dum should have automatically advanced here for The Scooby Doo Show, and we voted for someone else on the Scooby Doobies, but that wasn't my call to make, so I am ranking based on the Laff a Lympics and he is significantly weaker here. The Laff a Lympics in general could have used the Scooby characters much better, and Scooby Dum is no exception. Scooby Dum would be much, MUCH higher for his other appearances, but I just can't go any higher for the Laff a Lympics

12. Del Chillman- This one is probably a hot take being this low. But yeah, Del Chillman is cool, but he never made quite the impact on me that he has on a lot of people

11. Yogi Bear- As a Hanna Barbera fan, he would be higher if this wasn't a Scooby Doo poll, but based on the Laff-a-Lympics, he can only get so high when there are two other characters here who I think were better in that series

10. Dusk- Let's be very clear, the Hex Girls are the easy winner here when grouped together, but since they are listed individually, not all Hex Girls are equal for me, and I think Dusk is the weakest of the three. She is still very good, but there is just less there with Dusk than the characters higher in my opinion

9. Luna- I do like Luna better than Dusk, but she kind of still has the same problem when ranking her individually against some of these other characters, there is still just less there. I feel like I am committing blasphemy by having these two Hex Girls so low, but don't worry, Thorn won't be on here for a while

8. Mumbly- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJGUSrL63jE. Would be higher if they just had Muttley himself on here

7. Snagglepuss- I think I have to go with Snagglepuss as the best character of the Laff A Lympics. He constantly contributes the most personality throughout a series where I wish the characters didn't blend together quite so often

6. Vincent Van Ghoul- One could certainly argue that he should be even higher here, but these top 5... it is just personal, I can't leave any of them out of the top 5 here. But yeah, Vincent Van Ghoul is an amazing recurring character

5. Gibby Norton- Maybe he hasn't had quite the influence Vincent Van Ghoul or Dusk and Luna have, but he has just always been a favorite of mine. He is pretty much the definitive example of a short term recurring villain, which is a different role than a huge overarching villain like Pericles, but still can work super well, especially in a series like What's New

4. Red Herring- I can't put him higher than my top 3, but he is pretty much the absolute PERFECT recurring character for A Pup Named Scooby Doo. The dynamic between Freddy and Red never even got close to getting old for me, it was hilarious until the end

3. The Harlem Globetrotters- The greatest guest stars in the franchise, they basically begin to work as an extension of the gang by The Loch Ness Mess

2. Thorn- Really tough choice here. Thorn has the greatest high point by any of these in Witch's Ghost BY FAR. And while I enjoy almost all Hex Girls appearance (I repeat, "Almost all", not "all" with the fact that I think I Put a Hex On You is atrocious), it is just the fact that she pretty much peaks as a character immediately and then it is never quite the same as opposed to...

1. Sheriff Stone- I am surprising myself picking him over Thorn, but if we are looking at a character that has the comedy of Red Herring or Gibby Norton as well as a character that you actually can take seriously when needed, it is Sheriff Stone. And when looking at a character that starts strong, and not only never falls off, but keeps getting stronger and becoming a better character, it is Sheriff Stone. And he may just be the greatest recurring character in Scooby Doo history

13. I didn't have a strong sense of how he was in Laff-A-Lympics, but I was actually surprised by how much of a quality drop his characterization was when I rewatched some episodes on the new DVD. He is basically stripped of most of his personality, and made into this stereotype "dumb" character imo. Where would you have ranked him based on his Scooby-Doo Show appearances?

7. For sure, his level of personality he delivers is miles beyond most of the others imo. I'd rank him as my fave as well.

3. You make a really good point. I'd not thought much about when they felt like honorary members of the gang, but I don't think they quite reach that level in "The Ghostly Creep from the Deep."

13. I pretty much had the same experience watching that some of that blu ray. And I would have had Scooby Dum at least top 5, maybe top 3 here for The Scooby Doo Show, which shows just how disappointing his appearances on Laff a Lympics really were

3. The Ghostly Creep From the Deep was a very good guest star appearance for the Harlem Globetrotters, but they weren’t quite at that level yet. But, in The Loch Ness Mess, they were re-introduced as old friends of the gang thanks to their previous episode, rather than just another guest star they just met which really adds to why they feel like such a part of the team imo. Batman and Robin feel like they kinda have the same familiarity with the gang to a lesser extent in The Caped Crusader Caper, but Don Knotts and the Three Stooges basically acted like they had never even met the gang before in their second appearances lmao

3. Lol, that always bothered me about the Three Stooges appearance. It only furthered my feelings that they weren't a good fit with Scooby. I hadn't really thought about it much before with Batman and Robin either, but I think you're right that their level of warmth with the gang in "The Caped Crusader Caper" is a little more than "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair."

@Matt, the Don Knotts thing is easily explained by no one even realizing it was Don Knotts as Homer Pipsqueak in his first appearance besides Scooby. Don wasn't gonna reveal that now, and Scooby probably saw no point in bringing it up since he was ignored in Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner (or he had convinced himself that wasn't Don by that point).

Since we are discussing of characters in Scooby-Doo, I would to announce two brand new episodes and villains that I've just come up with for the second season of my Lego SD fan series, (Lego Scooby-Doo Mystery Files!).

1. "The Ghost Who Knew Too Much" Villain: (Phantom Stationmaster)

2. "Demon of the D'Urbervilles!" Villain: (D'Urberville Demon)
