Note that I did not include crossover episodes, such as Bravo Dooby Doo or the Dynomutt crossovers, so this poll didn't get too unmanageably long.
I would have to say mine is The Scooby-Doo Project, just for the quirkiness of it while also being super dark. With last week's poll, it looks like the "yes" votes just slightly edged out the no's! Is Captain Ferguson one of the 13 ghosts from the chest? Yes - 22 No - 18

I’d say beach beastie because I loved the setting and the monster was really original too

The monster was super cool in Beach Beastie! I love when they go for the more original types of monsters.

Hahaha I found Ghastly Goals very bad too, and probably in my top 5 worst pieces of Scooby media ever because it seemed rushed. Haunted Holidays was probably my favorite of the DTV specials as well.

Agree with ghastly goals!

Mecha Mutt Menace got my vote, but only narrowly over Beach Beastie, and I consider both excellent. IMO these -episodes- are the closest in tone and mood to SDWAY S1 since SDWAY S2 if that makes sense.

It's been a long time since I've seen them, but I don't feel Beach Beastie was anything like SDWAY personally. Mecha Mutt may have been somewhat. I understand your point, but don't agree haha.

So I actually meant all the specials between Spooky Games and Ghastly Goals based on the fact that every Scooby series changed something about the formula/designs and had its own distinct qualities, but these specials don't. (Individual Scooby-Doo Show episodes are closer, but for the overall show I count the inclusion of Scooby-Dum as a distinction) 6/29/2020 10:21:38 am
This is a really interesting observation! Mecha Mutt is definitely close to SDWAY. I don't think Spooky Games or Ghastly Goals would be considered like SDWAY...maybe more like WNSD with their larger-than-life type plots. Hmm...atmospherically, I would agree about Haunted Holidays, but I'm not sure about Spooky Scarecrow. That one feels a little off to me, but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on that one. I didn't consider Beach Beastie close to the original, but you're right that the only deviation is that it's during the daytime and shows Fred's house.

And the ones I have seen are beach beasties, spooky games, haunted holidays and gastley goals but I dont remember it. 6/29/2020 10:17:55 am
Ghastly Goals is probably a good one not to remember. It was not the greatest and seemed very rushed, and the animation was poor.

My favorite ones are The Scooby Doo Project and Night of the Living Doo. I wish we'd get specials like these 2 again. They were so unique, fun and cool. I'll go with TSDP, cuz it's probably the darkest Scooby stuff I've seen, and I love that. And it's also very funny and has more rewatch value. The voice actors sounded like they had such a blast making both of these Casper Kelly Scooby parodies/spoofs.

I wish we'd get stuff like this again too. Even though they were self-parodies, they were done incredibly well and had quite interesting plots, as well as fantastic humor.

Is there a scooby doo project I'm not aware of? Because I only thought the TSDP was pretty much just bumpers themed around the Blair Witch Project with loose plot, I don't even recall an end (but I did stop watching when they finished Scooby doo Where are you? only to start it right back over...) 6/29/2020 11:02:44 pm
There's a 21 minute version out there. I hadn't seen the full version until this year (I think) either, since there are tons of different bits and pieces and it was aired in segments in between commercial breaks. There was apparently a full version of The Scooby-Doo Project that aired at the end of that marathon, and there was indeed an ending to it (the ending was a non-ending though, because the ending is just saying it's uncertain what happened to the missing kids). Here's the link to that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAe5oZpDMgs

Thanks! I'll give it a watch, is there anything of the sequel out there?
Becker

There's no direct sequel. It's left up in the air whether the gang was killed or not, with the former being implied and suggested more. Pretty damn dark ending for a Scooby Doo media that aired on CN lol. Seems more like an Adult Swim interpretation.

My mistake I saw what I was talking about in the video, I just remembered more than one marathon, and never saw the scrappy part live so when I saw a commercial for a second marathon this time with scrappy and they played some of TSDP footage with it I thought it was a whole sequel (I had kinda given up on scooby doo at this point after realizing by watching the first marathon I had seen every episode of Scooby Doo Where are You? to death.) 6/30/2020 11:02:18 am
It is a very dark ending lol. And I thought Night of the Living Doo was 20 minutes. Are you sure it's only 15?
Becker
6/30/2020 12:03:24 pm
I'm sure it's 15 min long. This is the longest YT reupload video of the special: 6/30/2020 02:50:17 pm
Hmmm, interesting! A lot of other Scooby sites, like Wikipedia and ScoobyAddicts list it as 20 for some reason. It's been a while since I've seen it, so I honestly don't remember. Thanks for the info though!

Yeah, I've never seen a 16+ min version of it. And honestly, I don't know what scenes they could add to that, the special seems pretty complete with those 15 min. 6/30/2020 10:15:34 pm
Could've sworn I saw the 20 minute version once a long time ago, but I could have just projected that because I saw it listed as 20 minutes on Wikipedia and other places. He really doesn't talk very much, does he? It's kind of weird given what a prominent character Shaggy is on much of the other pieces of Scooby media. How sad is it that even Scooby has more lines than him? lol

It was hard to choose from because I'm more optimistic and it was a real toss up between Knight Time Terror, Spooky Games, or Haunted Holidays. But I do have to agree more with people saying Haunted Holidays as I did enjoyed that special a lot.

Spooky Games was another great one. I'll be honest, I barely remember Knight Time Terror. I think I've only seen it once!

Hey, welcome to the blog ShadowScooby! In terms of the "World's Greatest Athletes" piece, it is very similar to the Tim Conway episode! I really liked that aspect of the episode as well.

Definitely The Scooby-Doo Project, with Behind The Scenes second and Night of the Living Doo third. That's my favorite Scooby era, and those three specials in particular were very proto-Adult Swim styled.

Glad to see all the love for The Scooby-Doo Project! I agree that those era of specials were the best.
