We're taking a little break from the villain polls this week to do an idea that was suggested a while back. Thanks to Becker for suggesting the poll question for this week!

The other villains put up a worthy fight, but the Lantern Ghost was way in the lead for last week's poll! Here are the final results:

This is a fun poll question! There isn't anything I don't like here, but definitely some series that stand out more than others.

4. Be Cool - The chase songs work well with this series, and I like most of them! However, compared to the other three, the case songs in this show are easily the least memorable.

3. Pup - The chase songs feel absolutely perfect for the vibe of this series! The other two are just a little more iconic for me.

2. What's New - I actually did consider voting this, because this series really delivered with some excellent songs throughout the entire series. However, I ended up going with...

1. Where Are You - While there are more chase songs in What's New, I'm not sure anything will ever beat how iconic these original 7 are for me.

4 A Pup Named Scooby-Doo great but overrated songs

3 Be Cool Scooby-Doo absolutely amazing most of them work well

2 Scooby-Doo Where Are You absolute classics not much else to say

1 What's New Scooby-Doo always takes me back to when i was a kid i watched What's New the most as a kid and so i've heard these songs the most

tbh i am shocked these are the only shows to have chase songs i thought a couple more of them did but i guess not hopefully next show (either Go Go Mystery Machine or Live Action Show) has chase songs and tbh i think Guess Who also needed chase songs as well especially since they had musicians imagine a Guns N Roses song like Welcome To The Jungle playing in Dark Diner Of Route 66

It is kind of weird that only four series have chase songs! It's even wilder to think only 8 episodes of the classic era included chase songs (depending on if you include Pup as a part of the classic era). It feels like a much bigger trope in Scooby. It's interesting that Guess Who didn't include them considering how the show used so many classic tropes.

This is a good one and I have strong opinions on these, and it is a topic I haven’t discussed much so this should be interesting

4. Be Cool- Easy last place here. Honestly, the chase songs were one of the weakest aspects of this series, not because they were bad, but because they are EXTREMELY unmemorable to me. In a series that is really bold in a lot of ways, these songs fall way flat, even if I appreciate them trying to bring back chase songs here

3. Pup- Huge step up here, though still a huge step down from the top two. The vibe fits super well here, and while they can blend together (which is my biggest criticism), there are a few that really stand out as memorable to me, particularly the ones from Chickenstein Lives, Wanted Cheddar Alive, and Snow Place Like Home

2. Where Are You- This is tough because these are easily the most consistently high quality chase songs and scenes, and my absolute favorite chase scene is I Can Make You Happy in Mystery Mask Mix Up. A chase scene so good that it spearheaded the rise of Mystery Mask Mix Up from a bottom 2 or 3 episode of the series for me to one of my all time favorite episodes when I rewatched it for the first time in years and realized just how amazing that scene is. Ultimately though, I decided to give it to the other one in this top two

1. What’s New- For as much as I love those 7 Where Are You chase songs, when I take my 7 of my favorites from What’s New (These are not an official top 7, but definitely 7 up there) with

- You Don’t Mean Anything in Simple Plan and the Invisible Madman
- I’d Do Anything in It’s Mean It’s Green It’s the Mystery Machine
- Walk on the Wire in A Scooby Doo Valentine
- Time Running in Mummy Scares Best
- Doing Time in The San Franpsycho
- The Ghosts of Me and You in Large Dragon At Large
- Man With the Hex in Big Scare in the Big Easy
- and honestly I could go on

And compare them to the 7 Where Are You songs, I am not sure one way or the other which group wins for me. But when I take into consideration the rest of the What’s New chase songs, it is enough of a net positive to give it a lead for me. Not every What’s New chase song is great, and Where Are You has the consistency advantage, but the rest of the What’s New chase songs as a whole are good enough for me to say more is better here and that What’s New wins

My Where Are You is pretty similar similar

I guess the next three to be in my unordered top 10 for What's New would be

Saying Goodbye- Roller Ghoster Ride (Bonus points for the chase itself being one of my favorites in the series)

The three I mentioned for Pup are really the only three off the top of my head that are top tier there, though I could be forgetting some. It probably goes like this for me

Our Where Are You lists are super similar!

For whatever reason, most of the season 3 songs in What's New are much less memorable to me than the other two seasons. Pretty much only the ones I listed and maybe "New Planet" are ones that I can fully remember how they go off the top of my head.

I generally agree that they are the most forgettable though there are a few that were obviously among my favorites. But the chase songs from episodes like Camp Comeoniwannascareya and A Terrifying Round With a Menacing Metallic Clown aren't bad necessarily, but easily two of the most forgettable of the series for me. The absolute worst chase song for the series imo has to be the one from Recipe For Disaster which is just a non-distinct instrumental. High Tech House of Horror's is also kind of the same scenario except I like that one because they try to make it sound futuristic, so it at least fits the vibe

I completely agree that "Recipe for Disaster's chase song is the weakest of the series. "High-Tech House of Horrors" works a little better for me in the sense that they at least tried to make it fit the vibe of the episode, but it's also one of my least favorites for being just a basic instrumental.

What's new was where Scooby Doo songs were peak. even got a hex girl song for one episode. pup name and be cool had very generic songs for the most part.

In other news, been 9 months and still not received any refund or further information refund wise regarding the cancelled Mystery Incorporated project. Have Dropped them an email today. Incredible how they can admit how poor their communication is yet do nothing about it.

I hadn't thought about doing a poll like this for movies, but we certainly can! I honestly might have to relisten to a good portion of the songs to be able to do a ranking. For whatever reason, most of the movie songs aren't really as memorable to me as the ones from the series.

That's too bad to hear about the refund for the Mystery Incorporated project! Did you give over $20 to the project? I remember their message said they were only giving refunds for tiers over $20 because they'd used some of the money on episode 2 before WB told them they had to stop production. I'm pretty sure they'd also said that you had to email them directly within two months to get that refund.

I gave 100 I remember. They replied initially twice early feb, unfortunately I had a clear out of emails and they must have got deleted, then nothing. And email bounced back as they are out of storage. Also no response to message on Indiegogo in July, wouldn't surprise me if they just couldn't be bothered.

Also, I was thinking more about the movie chase song poll and while I like the idea, I think it might be a little challenging to determine which songs should qualify. I went through the Scoobypedia pages last night, and I forgot how many songs that a lot of the movies have! A lot of the films have songs placed throughout them, but they aren't necessarily during a chase. There's also a lot of songs like "Werewolf Rock" from Reluctant Werewolf where it's borderline about whether it should count. If anybody has ideas for how we could determine what qualifies, I'd be happy to hear them, but otherwise I think it might be a difficult poll to do.

That's an interesting poll idea! Is this the first time you've done a poll about songs from the franchise?
My favorite songs are from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo. Musically speaking, the songs from Where Are You and What's New are better, but the songs from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo fit the episode much better. It's original that the song for each episode is about the monster, and that the rhymes follow its name. This part of a Scooby-Doo episode feels much more natural since it's often Scooby-Doo who puts on the song. In A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, the musical chase is just as natural as the split-up or the setting of the trap.
It's true that Easter eggs are much more frequent in the franchise, especially in The Sword and the Scoob and Scoob! In those two films, the guest characters have a much bigger role than in Mask of the Blue Falcon. Still, Mask of the Blue Falcon remains extremely solid with its well-thought-out mystery and the appearances of Mr. Hyde. It's interesting to see that Mr. Hyde manages to be a frightening element in the film even though the atmosphere of the comic book festival is lighter. I also enjoyed the new version of Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. I found it to be a good example of what the Scooby-Doo franchise shouldn't become, since even though it plays on the theme of fear, it has to stay funny. The same could be said of the Flintstones universe. Although it's an adult series, this franchise must remain accessible to younger audiences and avoid adopting a more mature tone, as you mentioned with On the Rocks (the Velma series would also be a good example). For me, the humor in Frankencreepy is an introduction to that of Be Cool (although I still find Be Cool funnier). The transitions are indeed a bit strange. I presume the writers wanted to avoid spending too much time on the journey. It would have been possible to develop a few scenes along the way, but the atmosphere of the castle and the laboratory is much more frightening and interesting in that respect. Personally, I also consider the What's New movies to be extended episodes of the series, particularly Aloha Scooby-Doo and Monster of Mexico, but the plots and secondary characters are so well-developed that they remain engaging. More recently, movies like Gourmet Ghost and Moon Monster Madness did indeed resemble extended episodes, but unlike the What's New era, they didn't introduce a compelling element that would generate significant interest. I also think that in the earlier films, and I include Frankencreepy and Moon Monster Madness, the viewer could learn something. In Abracadabra-Doo, for example, the film touches on courage and the importance of overcoming fears to rescue loved ones. Mask of the Blue Falcon deals with self-confidence and overcoming ridicule. More recent films like Return to Zombie Island and Gourmet Ghost don't offer that. They simply follow the well-trodden path of the franchise's classic formula.

The Scary Sky Skeleton: I agree that it would be interesting to have new episodes with an aviation theme. Scenes in the air have a unique dynamic, but I'd like to see some where the gang is in control of their trajectory through the sky and tries to capture the monster in mid-air. I wonder what kind of traps they could create under those conditions!
Scooby-Doo in Wonderland: I also preferred Scooby's Trip to Ahz, since the witch was a more interesting villain. I imagine it would be easier to do an Oz episode, since it's a universe that's been heavily promoted in recent years and the witch is already established as the villain in the story, especially since she's an adversary that works well in the Scooby-Doo universe. We'd probably have to find a suitable monster for a Wonderland episode. Maybe a castle where the queen and the soldiers are all ghosts?

By the way, I read a few days ago that a new Gremlins movie is coming out. There have been a few music related polls that I've posted over the years! I just checked my spreadsheet where I have all the weekly poll ideas I've done (which I keep just to prevent overlap). Looks like we've done favorite chase song polls for Where Are You and What's New, a "favorite theme song" poll, favorite music-themed episode, favorite soundtrack, favorite song from Scooby Goes Hollywood, and favorite Hex Girls song.

I agree that Pup's songs fit the series' vibe really well! It feels super natural with the whimsical atmosphere of the show. Completely agreed with everything you said on Mask of the Blue Falcon. Even though I like it a little less than I did on first watch, it's still a really solid film. Yeah, the contrast between how menacing Mr. Hyde feels and the lighter atmosphere of the convention is really cool! I also agreed with the overall message about keeping shows balanced and rooted in their core elements. You make a good point about the newer films not as frequently having a strong embedded message like some of the earlier ones. I agree with you that Moon Monster Madness definitely has an overarching message! It seemed like the subplot about Velma's jealousy of Daphne was intended as a message of supporting your friends, and lifting up each other's strengths. There are a few more recent movies that seem to have messages, but you're right there aren't nearly as many. Straight Outta Nowhere has a strong message about the meaning of courage, and Trick or Treat also seems to have a subplot about what it means to be a leader. To be fair though, I don't think that some of the earlier films did either. It seemed to be something that was focused on in mainly in the early 2010s films, for whatever reason. I would agree with you on Aloha feeling like an extended What's New episode.

Scooby's Trip to Ahz: Agreed that the witch works much better as a villain than the evil queen. I like your idea for an Alice in Wonderland parody! That sounds like it could be a cool episode.

I hadn't heard about that, but I just looked it up and found an English source confirming it as well. I remember that there was a Super Pets film featuring Krypto in 2022, and I was convinced it meant they were going to align the films release dates so they'd be released around the same time. I ended up being wrong, and they didn't release it until the next year. That said, I'm not sure whether this means anything for the Scooby crossover, but I hope it does! Thanks for the info!

It's probably the nostalgia and the fact that I saw Scooby-Doo, Where are you the most on Cartoon Network as a kid, but I will go witht that series for the songs. maybe they weren't he best songs, compared to the others, but they were memorable (especially "i'm in love with an ostrich" line, what was that about?). It probably helps that it also had the fewest songs, easier to remember them, at least for me.

Totally agreed that the Where Are You ones had the appeal of being memorable! I would say the What's New songs are probably objectively a little higher quality, but I'll always have a soft spot for the quirkiness of the Where Are You songs.

That would be awesome if the live-action show had chase music! I would be curious to see what genre they'd go with. All of the four shows with chase songs have arguably featured different genres.
