7 was also an insane episode, my 2nd favourite. All my life it was my number 1 of the series but it's been moved to 2nd place. The setting is amazing especially the first half of the episode where you see the gang in such random locations.

Agreed! I thought the gang moving around the movie sets was a really unique use of the setting.

I’m going with The Mystery of Haunted Island. That is my favorite of the Globtrotters episodes. I say that this is the darkest episode of the series. The spooky atmosphere on the boat and the mansion they were in.

I love The Mystery of Haunted Island too! I don't know if I'd consider this one the darkest one of the show. I might lean more towards "The Haunted Showboat" for that, but in general I don't feel there were a lot of dark episodes in this show.

This poll is for best setting, not best episode, so my pick is Mystery in Persia. The titular setting is very colorful and very pretty and lends an exotic flavor to the proceedings.

I wish they would have spent more time in the creepy hallways personally, like the one with all the doors. That part of the setting was great, but the rest of the setting, I would say is probably one of my least favorites of the show.

The Haunted Carnival has always stuck out to me as immaculate. Maybe I just love theme parks, as I also voted for Foul Play in Funland lol.

The episode does a great job creating a really creepy carnival setting in broad daylight, so I give it major props for that. One of my favorites from that show, although I have a lot of favorites as you can see from my rankings lol. This series had a ton of great settings!

I have also been an advocate for this episode and setting. A lot of people seem to take away points from this one for being in daylight, but I found the carnival to be really creepy despite this, which gives it extra points for me being able to pull it off like that

A very positive tier list overall. I think the long episodes REALLY helped this series in the setting department for me, even in episodes where I feel the long episodes didn’t help the episode overall (Looking at you, Ghost of the Red Baron)

Great list! I probably could have made an excellent tier as well and maybe I'll do that for The Scooby-Doo Show next week. I agree with your list almost completely, other than I didn't like "The Ghost of the Red Baron" nearly as much as you do. I felt the setting could have been used a bit better than it was, but it is still definitely good. I also think "Mystery in Persia" has its good points, like the hallway of doors and the creepy room with the open window, but for the most part it pales in comparison to the majority of other episodes in the series, both setting-wise and as an episode.

I guess for Mystery in Persia, even the high points of the setting just feel like wasted potential more than good execution. It all just feels like a jumbled mess. The room with the weird window does stand out though (though I always felt like for as cool as it could be, it felt more odd than anything given what follows in the episode). It is the odd classic episode that, even with other classic series episodes I dislike (like Jaguaro for example), there is no other episode that feels like such a mess and such a fever dream of just nonsense for both plot and setting and it is like "Well, first they were here, and now they are here for some reason". Honestly, that fever-dream feeling is probably why I would still prefer the episode over Jaguaro, Willawaw, or Ransom of Scooby Chief where I am usually just bored (or in the case of Jaguaro, annoyed), but I still can't say it isn't bad 3/6/2023 08:40:26 am
Yeah, the room with the weird window is kind of wasted potential in the sense that it's super cool in the room but then the next scene feels pieced together and isn't really as cool. The episode as a whole definitely feels like a fever dream, but what saved it a bit for me is that there were a few decent settings throughout like that window room, or the one with all the doors. I still would call it pretty borderline between good and bad personally. It is definitely a better episode than Jaguaro or Ransom of Scooby Chief though (I've never minded Willawaw).

Honestly, the only other episode in this series that I would feel also feels similarly just unhinged and deranged would be A Good Medium Is Rare. I do like that episode much more than Mystery in Persia, but if there is another 40 minute fever dream turned into an episode, it is that one. Thankfully, for the sake of this poll, the settings in that episode were really good, especially the WEIRD Magic Mansion 3/6/2023 12:51:33 pm
Yeah, "A Good Medium Is Rare" definitely feels like a fever dream and similarly jumbled together, especially with the Magic Mansion part and the random gargoyle mystery that we never get any sort of explanation for. It's much better than "Mystery in Persia" in terms of both setting and quality, and I'd argue the settings help it be a better episode. All of the settings feel more creepy and Scooby-Doo-ish in "A Good Medium Is Rare," whereas the fact that the settings in "Mystery in Persia" are just random and feel more like a Jeannie episode.

I enjoy A Good Medium Is Rare a good bit, including the fever dream-ness of it. Not so much Mystery in Persia though.

Completely agree with both of you. It is overall just a much better episode than Mystery in Persia, and I enjoy it. Maybe not as much as some more coherent episodes of the series, but the fever dreamness of it is much more charming than it is in Mystery in Persia. And I completely agree that the settings help A Good Medium is Rare a lot

I really like "The Frickert Fracas" too, the creepy farm setting really enhances the episode greatly IMO. "Weird Winds of Winona" which you mentioned is also underrated. The abandoned town of Winona and that spooky city hall building have a very spooky atmosphere.

I really wanted to vote that one since it's my favorite episode in the franchise, but I ended up going with "Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner" for being such a quintessential haunted house setting.
