Weekly Poll #167

It's time to determine what the best settings in the franchise are with another poll series! Since many episodes have the gang going to multiple places, I decided to have the options be episodes rather than settings to keep it at a manageable amount of options. I debated about having it be one season per poll, but since there are 15 series, I think it makes more sense to just go by series rather than having this poll series go on for a full year lol.

Last week's poll was a fun one to see the results from! 23 people said they watched Scooby daily, 17 people watch several times a week, 13 people watch weekly, 11 people watch monthly, 7 people watch every couple of months, 6 people watch biweekly, and 6 people watch yearly. Thankfully, nobody voted never haha.

My vote goes to "Haunted House Hang Up" for creating an amazingly spooky haunted house setting. Scenes like the floating candle and the Headless Spectre in the dark room excellently create a pretty terrifying haunted house.

Guess it's time to do these types of rankings again!

Great - What a Night for a Knight, Hassle in the Castle, A Clue for Scooby-Doo, What the Hex Going On, Never Ape an Ape Man, Foul Play in Funland, The Backstage Rage, Bedlam in the Bigtop, A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts, Scooby-Doo and a Mummy Too, Which Witch Is Which, Spooky Space Kook, Go Away Ghost Ship, A Night of Fright Is No Delight, That's Snow Ghost, Nowhere to Hyde, Mystery Mask Mix-Up, Jeepers It's the Creeper, Scooby's Night with a Frozen Night, Haunted House Hang Up, A Tiki Scare Is No Fair, Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Werewolf, Don't Fool with a Phantom

Good - Mine Your Own Business, Decoy for a Dognapper

Alot of amazing ones here (obviously lol) I went with Foul play in Funland for that abandoned amusement park. Mine your own business was close too, with that old abandoned mining town and the mines themselves.

Looks like "Foul Play in Funland" is ahead right now in the results so I'll be interested to see if that one wins!

Foul Play in Funland is perfection, so I'll go with that one!

I went with Don’t Fool With a Phantom. Given that this episode aired on Halloween, it had a very spooky atmosphere to it. The setting of Grisby’s house with the ghost wail coming out of the box, the skeleton bubbles, and the skeleton waving goodbye.

The Wax Museum was another spooky setting. Daphne bumping into that Frankenstein statue and it fell back creeped me out as a kid. The bat popping out, the Ghost hand, that black widow statue coming to life and giving the fruitbowl to Shaggy and Scooby.

"Don't Fool with a Phantom" has awesome settings! I particularly like Grisby's house, but the Wax Museum is a spooky one too!

Wow, surprised someone else chose this one. The tv studio was a great starting point also.

Doing tiers for this series wouldn't be very helpful for me considering how amazing overall I find this series to be for settings, so here we go with a long ranking:

25. Decoy For a Dognapper: Unfortunately, pretty easy last place here. Nothing particularly noteworthy. I could even argue (though it is close) that A Bum Steer For Scooby did it slightly better

24. Scooby Doo and a Mummy Too- A very good setting actually, I've just never found it to be iconic like many other settings in this series, even if I'd say the episode does get there as iconic

23. Never Ape An Ape Man- Interestingly enough, my bottom 3 are what I would consider to be the weakest episodes of season 1, despite not being my bottom 3 of the entire series. But to Never Ape an Ape Man's credit, I think this movie set is done pretty well. Just doesn't stand out

22. Scooby's Night With a Frozen Fright- It gets a couple of bonus points for the creepy abandoned boat, but not too many because it is such a short amount of time

21. That's Snow Ghost- It's a personal issue I guess, but I just can't help but compare it to Ghost of Bigfoot, and it is not nearly as good of a setting as that one

20. What a Night for a Knight- It feels bad to put this this low, but there is just stiff competition

19. A Tiki Scare Is No Fair- More than just a Hawaiian setting, I love the spooky abandoned village

18. Mine Your Own Business- I want to put this higher, but I do get the complaints of not enough time being spent in the spooky ghost town unfortunately

17. Jeepers It's the Creeper- The Barnyard dance is among the very most iconic, but it really isn't among the very best imo

16. Mystery Mask Mix Up- Although people have exceptions to this episode for very good reasons (and I agree that even at the time, there were certain spots in this episode that were very insensitive) And that is a shame because other than that, this episode is very, VERY underrated imo, even if the bad parts put it lower on my list. All of this is to say, the settings are among the very underrated parts. All of the hijinks in the temple, like "The store room" as well as the wharf and especially all of the scenes in the awesome chase scene puts this higher for me than most people

15. Hassle in the Castle: I mean, it is Vasquez Castle, it is a truly iconic setting, even if it is not my favorite castle setting in the franchise, or even in the series

14. Don't Fool With a Phantom- Love all of the settings, though I wish more time were spent at Grisby's House

13. Go Away Ghost Ship- Truly awesome settings, love the ghost ship and the cave

12. A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts- Absolutely CLASSIC Transylvanian Castle stuff

11. A Clue For Scooby Doo- An amazing underwater setting, love the graveyard of Ships

10. Nowhere to Hyde- We are approaching GOAT territory with the top ten. This isn't the best haunted house in the series, but that says more about the other ones than this one

9. Spooky Space Kook- I love the abandoned airfield setting. This episode usually gets its props for the villain and rightfully so, but the setting deserves more love too

8. A Night of Fright Is No Delight- Another amazing haunted mansion

7. Which Witch is Which- I absolutely adore the swamp setting and especially the boat setting. Just an amazing episode for settings

6. Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Werewolf- Perhaps my number 11 after my original top ten setting list from a week or two ago. I love old mill settings, and it perhaps feels further from other humans than any other episode in the series

5. Haunted House Hang Up- I've already discussed my top 5 on the aforementioned top 10 list article comments

4. Bedlam in the Bigtop

3. Foul Play in Funland

2. The Backstage Rage

1. What the Hex Going On

25. Decoy for a Dognapper - Yeah, this is definitely one of the least memorable.

24. Mine Your Own Business - The mines are good, but I think it would have been even more interesting had they spent more time in the ghost town or hotel.

23. Jeepers It's the Creeper - I've grown to appreciate this setting more, but it still is not one of my favorites.

22. Mystery Mask Mix-Up - I like the temple and the scenes around town, however, I feel others are better.

21. A Tiki Scare Is No Fair - Some tough competition because we're getting into the great settings now.

20. Scooby's Night with a Frozen Fright - The boat is really creepy, but the aquarium doesn't quite rise to the level of some other settings here.

19. Never Ape an Ape Man - Love the movie set!

18. That's Snow Ghost - Agreed, I think "The Ghost of Bigfoot" did it better. Still a solid setting though.

17. Go Away Ghost Ship - Love the abandoned cave and ghost ship, but I wish more time were spent in the former.

16. Spooky Space Kook - The Army Base is a very unique setting but is nonetheless spooky.

15. Nowhere to Hyde - Very underrated haunted house!

14. Bedlam in the Bigtop - The circus is very creepy which is hard to do for a circus, so major props to them here.

13. What the Hex Going On? - there are better haunted houses than this one IMO, but it's still great.

12. Don't Fool with a Phantom - I really like the wax museum setting and especially Grisby's house.

11. Hassle in the Castle - A classic!

10. Which Witch is Which? - the swamp, old shack and riverboat are all incredible settings.

9. What a Night for a Knight - Amazing setting to kick off the franchise.

8. A Clue for Scooby-Doo - best underwater setting of the whole franchise.

7. Scooby-Doo and a Mummy Too - I actually disagree with you that this one isn't good, I really like the setting of the university and thought they pulled it off well.

5. A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts - Love the castle setting here. A stone cold classic.

4. Backstage Rage - I was not a huge fan of this one when I was a kid, but it has really grown on me in recent years for how terrifying it is.

3. Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Werewolf - The isolated old mill in the woods makes for a really frightening setting.

2. Foul Play in Funland - Ironically this is one of my least favorite episodes of the series, yet one of my favorite settings.

1. Haunted House Hang-Up

7. To be fair, I did say the setting was very good even if it is ranked low, so I don't think it is not good

I assume A Night of Fright Is No Delight is number 6? Lol

2. Pretty much the same situation for me. I wouldn't put it last place for the series for me anymore (I'd definitely put it ahead of Dognapper, Frozen Fright, and Ape Man at least), but it is still not my favorite. The setting is one of my favorites though

I'll probably stick to tiers for most other series, but for this one, they are all too close lol

7. My bad, I meant to say I disagree it wasn't iconic. I consider it to be iconic in its own right, but to each their own :)

6. Lol, yeah, I was seriously debating whether to put it top 5 or not so much that I actually switched it to top 5, then took it out and forgot to put it back in as number 6. It's one of the most iconic haunted houses in the franchise.

I think tiers are probably easiest for most series, especially once we get into the Scrappy shorts and such where the settings are not used well lol.

Honestly, for the actual Scooby and Scrappy Doo shorts (This does not include NS&SDS or NSDMy) I honestly don't know how many of those I am willing to watch again to give a fair judgement lmao, I might just make a list of a few favorites and potentially a few least favorites

I won't be rewatching any of them lol. I'll just go off of memory, and most of them very poorly used the setting in my opinion.

This is an extremely difficult poll because Where Are You? is my favorite Scooby series. I ultimately picked Go Away Ghost Ship because all of the locations are excellent from the familiarity of the malt shop, to the posh estate of Mr. Magnus, to the ship, to the secret warehouse for the stolen cargo on the atmospheric Skull Island. I also like that two items of the stolen cargo, the liverwurst and the Scooby Snacks, play not only a part in the plot, but help lead to the capture of the very individuals who took them.

Yeah, this one was super difficult but I imagine future weeks will ge easier as we're going through the story. "Go Away Ghost Ship" is an awesome one, especially that secret warehouse! I wish they would have spent more time there!

Okay - What the Hex Going On
Good - Mine Your Own Business, Bedlam in the Big Top
Great - The Rest.
It does not help that What the Hex Going On is the one episode of WAY that I have a hard time watching
I think every episode of Where Are You is a pure classic other than Bedlam in the Big Top, which is fine and the aforementioned What the Hex which brings the titular question to my mind often concerning the episode's overall quality

Interesting you don't like "What the Hex Going On?" I personally thought that was one of the better episodes. I agree with you that "Mine Your Own Business" isn't an amazing setting, even though it is good.
