Weekly Poll #121

So we're taking a little break from the sports/best villain poll for something different this week. This was admittedly a challenging poll to make, as I couldn't include every possible option people might have as you'd be scrolling forever lol. I sort of picked and chose the most common ridiculously bad costumes there have been throughout the franchise. However, if there are any you feel should be in the running that I missed, please tell me in the comments so I can add it as an option! I will include pictures of each villain below as I realize some of these are from obscure Scrappy shorts that people may not remember. I didn't include any villains that were intentionally comedic (Piranha Goat, the Vampire Mummy Werewolf from Outer Space, etc.).

Also, here are the results from our March Madness poll - which is a tie for first and last place!
What is your favorite basketball episode?
The Loch Ness Mess - 23
The Mystery of Haunted Island - 23

The Ghostly Creep from the Deep - 19
Basketball Bumblers - 4
All of the basketball episodes are awful, basketball in general is awful, in fact, all sports are just plain awful - 4

I mentioned in a comment on here recently that the skeleton's movements from "The Spooky Fog" was not creepy in the slightest, because it looks like he's just taking his nightly stroll. I have made a GIF so you can share in my enjoyment lol.

Cheese Monster and Burger Monster don't deserve to be there imo.
I'll go with the McGurk brothers, just an awful idea.

I explained the first part in the comment below, but I purposefully left the question open to interpretation in case people liked all of the bad villains I chose and wanted to go in the more "silly" villain route. I personally enjoy the Cheese Monster and Burger Monster as well.

This is a strange question. For me a villain can be silly and still decent. The Cheese monster falls into that category. If we're talking bad, then that would be Carl and Tony, that whole episode was just awful.

I decided to leave it open to interpretation as not all of the people find the bad villains I listed to be bad (see the comment below praising the Sheet Ghost as an example), so I wanted to provide another way to answer the question if people preferred. I also find the Cheese Monster and Burger Monster silly but still decent.

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation. It confused me is all, but I'm easily confused.

You seem to be asking along the lines of worst costume or dumbest concept for a villain, and I voted along those lines. But I will die on the hill that Big Bob Oakley, alias "the actor," wanted in seven states, is the silliest and worst in-universe villain. To refresh recollections, Bob was searching the Franken castle for its jewels in 'A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts.'

Setting aside the fact that he was essentially trapped FIVE times in a single episode - in a chandelier, by a jar of flour, in the dungeon, by a serendipitous potion toss, and his final capture - he was the architect of his own defeat. When the gang arrives at the castle and finds the drawbridge up, they decide to leave. What does Bob do? Bob lowers the drawbridge to taunt them in person. I guess he was chomping at the bit for an opportunity to put on some makeup and talk with a funny accent. When he raises the drawbridge again, less than a minute later, it traps Daphne in the castle. Does he ignore her so she can find her way out? No. He adds kidnapping to his list of charges and renders his primary goal - making the gang leave - unachievable. Skipping to the end, Bob finds the Franken jewels and is able to vanish from the castle, jewels in hand, while evading capture. Mission accomplished. All he has to do now is leave. He has a tremendous head start, the gang has no idea who he really is, and the authorities would have no reason to believe a group of kids about anything that happened. But when the gang deduces that the vampire they were chasing is the same person as the fortuneteller they met outside the castle and returns to the fortuneteller's cart, Bob is inside, back in drag, waiting to talk to them. "I'm surprised to see you again, my pretties." No, Bob. I'M surprised to see YOU. Jeepers.

...I know I said I'd ignore the traps, but folks, I just can't. Like an AT-AT on the frozen fields of Hoth, Bob stood utterly still while Scoob circled his legs, over and over, round and round, tying him up with rope. "Stop that, you mutt!"

Silly dude. Bad villain. Great costumes, though!

Yep, that's what I'm asking. Sorry the question wasn't clear! I left it open for people to answer "silliest villain concept" if they wanted to, but the question was more leaning in the direction of worst villain concept.

You make an amazing case for Big Bob Oakley! I'll add him as an option haha.

As hilarious as it is, it always comes back to the Sheet Ghost for me.

Now, I can't say it is the WORST idea here (McGurk brothers are probably a contender there), but in terms of pure silliness, ridiculousness, and lack of effort, I mean this guy just threw a sheet over his head and torso. At the same time, I find it absolutely hilarious in an all time great episode so I won't complain about it, but it easily wins this poll for me

I 100% agree with you and that is my pick as well. It's hilariously bad IMO.

I like all of these villains to some extent except for the burger monster.
Here are my my 5 favorites
5) The Cheese Monster - Cheesy but fun.
4) Ghost of Juan Carlos - He looks like an ordinary guy because he used to be one.
3) Bulldog - Originality is not his forte. Dependability is. My fav appearance is in Strongman Scooby.
2) Cactus - Who be ye? He must have good taste for he didn't laugh at Fred's joke.
1) I LOVE the sheet ghost. I never in a million years would have thought he would have been a disliked villain. Not only did I really like the design but he was the twist villain. He made all the thumping noises that propelled their investigation. I also like Asa Shanks. He had an interesting character.

You have a really interesting perspective on the Sheet Ghost! I personally found the fact that he was just a guy who threw a sheet over his head a bit lazy, but you make a good argument that the thumping noises add to the creepiness of the episode. I also liked Asa Shanks.

I really liked your descriptions for each of the villains, especially the pun in #5 haha.

5) McGurk Brothers - " They're not heavy, they're McGurk Brothers.
4) Angry Doctor - He needs to prescribe himself a chill pill.
3) Angry Chef - At least he doesn't spit in their food that he will not let them have.
2) 30 Foot Mouse - That is something you don''t see every day.
1) Burger Monster - Just no. I'll take the monster. Hold the burger. Extra cheese might get it closer to the top 5.

Hahaha I would say my least favorites are:

5. Angry Chef
4. Angry Carnival Owner
3. Angry Doctor
2. Carl and Tony
1. McGurk Brothers

The others were definitely ridiculous, but in a funny way. These were so ridiculous that they were just awful villains.

I could not put Carl and Tony in my bottom five above. They work for the most part for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of Carl and Tony, but I think it just comes down to differences in what we're looking for during this era of the show. I remember you said you liked the more adventure-driven episodes, whereas I prefer the mystery aspect which is the main reason why Carl and Tony didn't work for me.

I just realized I apologized in the other thread but it's deleted now so nobody will see it lol. Just wanted to say sorry to y'all for posting about the NFT thing. I honestly had no idea what NFTs were and didn't realize they could be a bit sketchy. Thanks Matt and Becker for letting me know, and the post has been deleted.

I quite liked the Cheese Monster and Burger Monster, but I wasn't a big fan of the Ghost of Juan Carlos. He just looked like a regular person to me and not very much like a ghost.

I loved Big Bob Oakley, and liked the cheese monster and burger monster

Ghost of Juan Carlos I guess is still intimidating even if he just looks like an old dude

I also enjoyed Big Bob Oakley, although I really like LetThereBeFranken's detailed argument/opinion on the matter, which is why I added it as an option haha.

I hate the angry doctor villain, just because he's made to be the villain when he's chasing Scooby and Shaggy after they did something wrong to begin with.

I never liked those episodes either. Same with the angry carnival owner. He's only chasing them because they ate all the food, which they shouldn't have done since it was their job to sell it lol.

I have that problem with the shorts in general. Half of the time, their problems were caused either by them being rude, destructive, foolish, or all of the above

Like how are we supposed to feel bad for Shaggy in Double Trouble Date for example? Dude literally set up two dates for the same day and tricked one into going on a date with Scooby

As hilarious as it was, I'm picking the Sheet Ghost lol. Because it was a guy, in a SHEET! Like, don't insult Mystery Inc's intelligence like that! Lol.

But my least favorites are definitely Carl and Tony. They were more of a hindrance than a mystery. Kinda like how the Pokemon anime has Team Rocket. It felt like they belonged in another cartoon bothering someone else lol

Haha, I ultimately voted Sheet Ghost as you could interpret the question in multiple ways, but yeah, Carl and Tony were among my least favorites as well as their presence didn't bring a mystery at all. The McGurk Brothers are my least favorite as their characters were basically just walking stereotypes of hillbillies. They didn't add anything to the episode and their antics were not entertaining at all to me.
