It appears Velma will be premiering a bit sooner than we thought...in three weeks! WB-Discovery put out an official press release with all of their January TV shows on their website, and listed Velma as premiering on HBO Max on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
TVLine has confirmed that two new episodes will be posted every week. Given the previous confirmation that the first season will be ten episodes, that means the first season will conclude on February 9, 2023. In addition, an edited teaser has been released in Australia, and Fox 8 will be airing the show beginning January 15. However, the series will be able to be streamed on demand the same day as in the US. I imagine that the series will be treated similarly in other countries. TVPassport has also confirmed all of the titles for the episodes in season 1 for us: 1. Velma 2. The Candy (Wo)man 3. Velma Kai 4. Velma Makes a List 5. Marching Band Sleepover 6. The Sins of the Fathers and Some of the Mothers 7. Fog Fest 8. A Velma in the Woods 9. Family (Wo)man 10. The Brains of the Operation

Thanks so much for the confirmation! I just added it to the post. TVPassport also just confirmed all ten titles for season 1, so I've added that to the post as well. Usually the news for Scooby shows seems to be very slow and incremental, so it's amazing they're pretty much giving us all the info about season 1 in one day!

I would've expected it to come out in the spring. We should get another trailer soon considering it's 3 weeks away

I was thinking that as well. Maybe the first week of January, which would be the week before it comes out?

Hopefully this show will be good or at least better than what the toxic negative side of the internet fears.

I'm excited to see Velma on her own! It'll also be interesting to see if the rest of the gang are regulars in the series.

I'm totally on the fence with this show but edging towards it wanting to fail.I do fear Scooby is on the way out though, i.e. toys are just not as popular with kids right now, and that contributed massively to Holiday Haunts shelving.

I agree with you on the toys, but I hope it doesn't lead to Scooby's demise. I've never been someone who's super into collecting all the merch like a lot of people are, and I feel like there are a lot of fans that enjoy the movies more than collecting, so it would be really sad if they stopped making series/films for the franchise just because of the low merch sales.

Agreed but even more so in this modern era kids shows have been primarily to promote and sell toys, so who knows what will happen next but on the plus I do feel the adult collector market and merch side is doing well. 12/23/2022 02:17:33 pm
I suppose you're right, odd though that Scooby-Doo toys aren't connecting with kids. It seems like it's still one of the most well-known cartoons out there for kids, so it's surprising to think that toys haven't been selling well. But yeah, I agree with you that the adult collecting market has been still strong.

I feel part of that falls down to competition. It might be well known but in this modern era there is a lot more competition vying for children's attention and maybe it just can't catch children's attention as it did in the past, who knows? 12/24/2022 10:23:28 am
Could be, I know that there are a lot of newer cartoons that are more popular with kids right now (at least in the US). Honestly, I feel like WB makes it more difficult for kids to become invested in Scooby series with the poor promotion of new episodes, lengthy hiatuses, and network switches (i.e. how Guess Who was on the Boomerang app and then it switched to HBO Max; Be Cool was on Cartoon Network then switched to the Boomerang app).

Sounds plausible, maybe it's a double edged sword. WB don't feel Scooby is bringing in enough revenue so cut back on his exposure aside for possibly Halloween, which further limits kids becoming invested and buying Scooby toys. 12/25/2022 11:07:24 pm
I could definitely see that happening; that would explain why we only got Trick or Treat this year as well.

Don't you think, though, that the upcoming Mystery Pups series is Warner's attempt to catch a new generation of kid? 12/26/2022 08:55:12 pm
Not sure if this was to me or Mr. Neither, but I absolutely think it is. It seems like they wanted to capitalize on the Paw Patrol craze right now, and make a Scooby show like that so it would appeal to preschoolers (and like you said, make them want to check out the other shows). I also think it was kind of a reaction to the Velma series, to prove to parents that Scooby is still for kids.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm glad it's getting a release in other countries. Was the trailer they posted an actual trailer, or just that teaser we got in the US in October?

It was a slightly edited version of the teaser. The main difference I noticed was Velma doesn't read "I hope you die!" from her message. You can still read it off her screen, though. 12/26/2022 10:08:59 am
Thanks for clarifying that. I just added it to the post. It's great to hear that other countries are going to be getting the show on the same day as the US, since I know people were concerned about WB-Discovery not knowing what to do with the show internationally since it's not for kids.

Foxtel markets itself as "The Home of HBO", and has done so for over a decade, so does get a lot of their shows - but not all. I wasn't sure if we would get Velma.

I didn't realize Foxtel aired HBO shows. That makes sense though, since WB and HBO are owned by the same company in the US. It would be cool if HBO expanded to other countries. I heard somewhere that HBO Max was coming to European countries in the mid-2020s, although I'm not sure if that's just a rumor or if there's official confirmation of some sort.

The big shows, like Game of Thrones, is shown on the Fox Showcase channel. Kaling's Sex Lives of College Girls airs there as well. 12/26/2022 08:56:54 pm
The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad air on Fox here too, and they've been staples on that network since they started airing (although I think American Dad may air on a network called TBS now). I don't believe we have a Fox Showcase channel, I think it's just Fox, FX (basically a movie and rerun channel) and Fox Sports.

Me too! We've been hearing about this show since early 2021, so I can't believe we're finally getting this show less than two weeks!
