Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo Announced

A brand new Scooby-Doo project has been announced! According to the DisneyTVandNews Twitter account, a production flyer for the show Hamster and Gretel lists two WB shows, Bugs Bunny Builder and Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo. Oddly, the logo uses Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? animation, so perhaps the animation for this project just hasn't been decided upon yet. This will be produced by Snipple Animation. Keep in mind that this has not been officially announced by WB yet, so it is very possible that things may change and I would recommend taking this with a grain of salt for the time being until we find out more details.

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! is certainly an interesting name for a new show, so does it take place endlessly throughout October? Or just on Halloween night? I guess we’ll see what it is as time goes on.

This is very exciting news for me! As much as I am looking forward to giving the Velma series a chance, I’m happy that we have even MORE Scooby content on top of that! It’s a very good time to be a Scooby fan, with an upcoming tv special, at least a few more DTVs, two new series, and a potential fourth theatrical feature!

I thought that was also super weird to have an entire series around one night! I suppose if they did it for a month, that could work.

I'm super excited too! This is an amazing time to be a Scooby fan :)

Interesting, lets just hope its better than Guess Who which had its moments but lets face it was no where near the quality of Incorporated or Be Cool.

I hope so too. While I did like Guess Who, the writing and quality of Be Cool and SDMI was so much better. I hope they return to something like that again with this series!

Agreed! Would love another over arching plot but know its unlikely

It sucks that they stray away from overarching plots. I think a lot of fans loved that about 13 Ghosts and SDMI, so I hope we get another series that does that someday. I guess Be Cool did it to an extent, since the last episode revealed some events from previous episodes were connected.

I'm really excited for this show too! As others have mentioned, it seems odd for a series to entirely focus around one night, but I'm wondering if maybe it will be a series with an overarching plot and will lead up to Halloween night on the final episode of the show. Not sure though.

They won't even reveal the art of Tom and Jerry Junior which was officially announced, but I guess isn't being animated by Snipple? While here, we don't even have an official announcement for Trick or Treat, so they can only but use Guess Who? animation as a stand in.

I mean, it doesn't really sound like a full length series, and since Scooby is missing from Cartoonito, this would be a nice addition.

It doesn't sound like a full-length series to me either. I was wondering if it's maybe our first mini-series? I'm not sure if that's even something they'd want to create, but I think it could be cool.

Since it took about 9 months between the strat of animation and the first episode aired of Scooby-doo and guess who season 2 I feel like we will see velma next summer and this show early 2023

It really doesn't to me either, but it seemed odd it was being advertised alongside two other series. I can't imagine it's another DTV, because we just got a Halloween DTV. Maybe it's a special? I'm not really sure.

WOW this came out of nowhere it seems like we have gotten alot of things announced this year I know this hasn't been announced by WB but I'm curious about how it is going to play out is it going to be about the gang going to solve a lot of cases during one night are they going to wear different halloween costumes in each episode is their going to be a recurring villain or is their going to be a monster that turns some one in to the thing they are dressed up as or something like that I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Yeah, WB is putting out a ton of Scooby stuff this year! It's pretty crazy! I'm also really interested in how it will play out. I'm thinking either the series will be throughout the month of October like Gibby Norton mentioned above, or it will be an overarching plot of sorts where it's just us seeing the events that happen to the gang on Halloween night. If the latter's the case, I would think it's more likely that it's a mini-series, as they couldn't really keep the Halloween thing going for 52 episodes straight (or at least I wouldn't think so). I like your idea about the villain turning the gang into their costumes. That was something that was very briefly done in Goblin King, but not really explored, so it would be cool if they developed on that idea more.

Yeah it could be a mini series or may it could be a special and yeah it could take place in the month october instead of it taking place in one night and it does make more sense.

I'm leaning towards that it's maybe a mini-series because it seems odd otherwise they'd advertise a special with two TV shows, but idk.

Hey guys! So I just had a thought I could be totally wrong but what if it’s a Scooby-Doo and Guess Who special. Think about it the series never got a Halloween themed episode and October is coming up so it would be fitting.
It just doesn’t make sense for a whole series to be revolved around Halloween as it could really limit what the writers can do with the stories. But again it’s just a guess.
If and I do mean IF it is a Guess Who special then that will make guess who the Scooby series with the most episodes ever. That’d be a pretty cool accomplishment if that was the case.

Ooh, that would be really interesting if we got a "lost episode" of Guess Who in the form of a Halloween special. I wonder who the guest star would be if this is what ends up happening. Maybe Elvira again?

I second this I also think it is Higly Probable, that this may be a Guess Who special. Especially since the animation in the drawing appears to be the same from Guess Who, I think this is the most likely explantion. But only time will what this really is.

I wonder if this will be something that comes out this year still. I kind of doubt it, because it just went into production according to that poster, and it would be a pretty short timeframe for them to finish everything by October.

This is not true the Scooby-Doo franchise has bee around for a long time, but no cartoon lasts Forever. The real question is for how much longer will it still be around in the future, it could be here for the next 8 years or maybe 5 who knows,

Please bear in mind that many people like me, for example prefer the older shows of Scooby and do not care that much for the newer ones since many of us consider ther older shows to be the best ever. also I know quite a few fans who think the newer shows are mostly trash in their opinion.

I do think Scooby will be around for a long time. There's no way to really tell how long, but it seems like the franchise is doing amazing right now and I don't think it's ending anytime soon.

Yah, I half to remember that after A Pup Named Scooby Doo ended, there was no new Scooby Doo shows for eleven years until in 2002, What’s New Scooby Doo revived the Franchise.

Fascinating news.
As for the future of SD, yes we had a break, but not really from Pup to What's New.
Between them were Arabian Nights (94), and regular DTVs from Zombie Island (98) on.
Even if we get no new series for a while - which currently looks unlikely - I expect we'll get at least 2 DTVs a year.

Becker
8/31/2021 04:23:09 am

Yeah, we already know we're getting a new Scooby show, Velma, maybe next year. And now with this Trick or Treat news, who knows what this one's gonna be. Even if we had a longer gap between shows, we'd still get about 2 movies per year, and maybe a special. The Scoob follow-up is definitely a movie sequel (they wouldn't give the budget for that new animation style to a series or bring these celebrities for that).
So with another show, DTV, special and theatrical Scooby film on the way, plus whatever Trick or Treat is, there's no way the franchise will even take a break anytime soon.
I think whenever someone thinks the Scooby-Doo franchise is gonna end within the next couple decades, I can't help but think they should look back to 1996, when the franchise was pretty much dead at that point. Yet they brought it back in full swing not too long after that! In my opinion, a franchise that has stood the test of time for so long, over 50 years in this case, will never properly die. So many decades of new content prove that Scooby-Doo is one of those iconic cartoons that is literally too big to die, honestly. It showed it's special during all this time, and thus we'll get new content consistently. We know WB loves Scooby-Doo the most out of the HB properties, so they'll make sure they pump out new stuff.

WildwindVampire link
8/31/2021 09:11:11 am

I totally agree with everything you said there, Becker. Even if there is a lull in content for a while, there's always the possibility they'll eventually come up with something to revive the franchise like Zombie Island did.

We don't know for sure that the sequel to Scoob! - in whatever form it takes (I still think it's possible that it's a series) - will be theatrical, though. I'm not sure if WB would just choose the streaming route again, depending on when it comes out and if the Delta Variant ends up causing shutdowns again.

Most people think that older cartoons were much better then the new ones which are being made today, and prefer to watch re-watch them rather then the new ones. it's true the Scooby-Doo franchise, has stood the test of time for 50 years but I truly doubt it will able to last for another 50 years. The oners which I will never watch again are Get A Clue, Be Cool, Mystery Inc, Laff-A-Lympics and while I truly love New Scooby-Doo Movies, well I have seen it so many times that by now I am rather bored with it by now so I don't think I will be re-watching it again in the future.

it doesn't really matter how much a franchise is popular, sooner or later all good things comes to a end eventually it's ony a question of when. Popeye was good example of this among others, animation has changed a lot since the 80s and 90s many people believe it has taken a turn for the much worse since then, which is why more and more are going into anime instead. and I for one sadly agree with them about that I really do feel that too many cartoons are becoming Preschool shows. I definitely don't approve of the Bugs Bunny Builders cartoon besides I really don't see the point of it being made, since we already had a Baby Looney Tunes cartoon althought it wasn't any good at least I didn't like it.

Another thing which keeps a franchise going for a long time is the fact tht the same voice actors are usued in them for long time. Frank Welker has voiced shaggy for a decades, and once he is gone I for one will have no desire to watch scooby anymore since I just don"t feel the scooby franchise will be the same without him and I really can't imagaine anyone truly replacing him. For many people popular franchises voice actors are a important thing and it's not easy to replace the ones which orginaly voiced them with other actors.
I think the ones who where voiced in Scoob were pretty bad.

Becker
9/1/2021 08:32:03 am

You mean Frank Welker voices Fred, not Shaggy. And that's such a stupid excuse to say you won't wanna watch after a certain voice actor retires... you kept watching after Don Messick and Casey Kasem retired, who voiced obviously more important characters than Frank with Fred (that's just the truth). No sense.

whackman
9/1/2021 01:55:29 pm

Just because franchises keep on going after the orginal actors retire doesn't necessarily make them any better you know, many shows have been know to be criticised for this by fans. since many of them feel that changes like that simply don't work very well and they are often right.

We don't even know if they will wish to keep the Scooby-Doo franchise going, after Frank does retire I am guessing most likely not. As we know most popular franchises, do come to a end once the actors who have voiced for them for decades retire for them. And it is only after several decades they get revived but often with poor results regrettable, I do not wish to watch scooby after frank retires anymore, since i have no desire to watch a cartoon witch could go downhill as result. sometimes it really is best to quit while you're ahead as they say, and I really do think that's WB should do this after Frank is gone. besides despite Scooby being a popular cartoon well the thing is a lot of fans are mostly worn out by it by now. and lots of them prefer to re-watch the older Scooby shows and movies instead.

WildwindVampire link
9/2/2021 08:16:07 am

It will indeed be a very sad day when Frank leaves, though the franchise did go on without Casey Kasem once he passed, so I can't imagine they'd just end the franchise altogether if Frank left.

Jacob Staggs

The Scooby Doo Franchise will be around for a long time still. Success is built on a good foundation. Scooby Doo has just that from 1969 - 1982.
No matter what happens to the franchise, people will always refer back to Scooby Doo, Where are You as a testament as to why it should continue.

It had so many amazing elements to it: a perfect dark/spooky vibe, great character interactions/development and immaculate backgrounds. No matter what Scooby series they make in the future, I think that will always be seen as one of the best.

I do not think that Frank Weller retiring would have any correlation with a potential end to the Scooby Doo Franchise. We must remember that though we love this franchise, it is aimed at kids first. I seriously doubt that a six year old would care if Frank Weller was doing the voice or not and if they ever so slightly happened to care, they would see other series and realize all of the other voices have changed over time.
Welker's absence is a moot point when in reference to the durability of children's media.

That and we also have to remember that Casey Kasem retired, who was also a huge staple of the franchise. I really don't think the WB execs would throw their hands up and say "well, it's all over!" simply because Frank Welker couldn't do the voice anymore.
