Despite yesterday's announcement about WB shifting to a more "cost effective" model, a listing on Amazon France seems to say that an hour and twelve minute animated feature, Scooby-Doo, Trick or Treat will be released on October 26, 2022 in France. The page lists that the directors are Audie Harrison and Sam Register, which would rule out this film being a repackaging of Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo. In the past, listings for future DTVs have popped up on some of the international Amazon sites a week or two before appearing on the US Amazon site, so it is possible that we may be getting an announcement for this DTV in the coming weeks. Last year's DTVs were announced 11 weeks before their release, and if this is being released the week of October 26, that would mean we would likely get an announcement and trailer next week (the week of August 9).
DVD Land out of Australia also lists a description, although this site lists it as Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo! (Thanks Scoobyverse for bringing this link to my attention) Mystery Inc. has cracked the case to top all cases! They've tracked down Coco Diablo, the head of the notorious costume crime syndicate that colludes The Black Knight, Space Kook and the Ghost Diver. With Coco and her kitty in prison, Mystery Inc. thinks that they can finally enjoy a break. Wrong! Suddenly, menacing doppelganger ghosts of the Scooby crew and favorite classic foes show up in Coolsville to threaten Halloween. Now it's up to the meddling kids - and their unlikely new partner Coco - to unmask the latest scoundrel and save Halloween! For Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, with trick-or-treating on the line - this time it's personal! A big thank you to Gross108 for sharing this information with me.

Great news. Although I don't believe Sam Register would be the director. He would be an executive producer. (Actually, the accurate credit should be Warner Bros. Animation Supreme Overlord.)

I can say, I think the only reason this went through is because it was by a different animation company this time around. Krypto I can see vaulted with Holiday Haunt. But I can assume hold out hope. Weird we have a new animator for movies if this is going forward. Maybe Guess Who style movies are the plan?

That's a great point; I don't think any other films were done by the same animation company as this movie. It will be interesting to see if they're going to continue making Guess Who style films!

Yes! There hasn't been any official confirmation of that, but I can't imagine they'd completely scrap (pun possibly intended with your username lol) that project and make another one with almost the exact same name. So yes, to answer your question, I would say it's very safe to assume it's the same project! :)

One of the better Scooby movies of the 2010s. Very entertaining novelty film. The first half of the 2010s were quite an underrated time for Scooby movies, all of them were good to great (maybe except Music of the Vampire, but I have guilty pleasure with it, and also the bad romance in Stage Fright). The second half of the 2010s was a big downgrade though, we had crap like Curse of the 13th Ghost, Return to Zombie Island, Blowout Beach Bash, Rock & Roll Mystery... The 2020s aren't to a bad start at least 8/4/2022 10:57:20 am
I never really cared for Music of the Vampire personally, but yeah, I agree many of the first half of 2010's films were amazing. I've liked every film they've put out in the 2020s, so I'm hopeful this film doesn't change that. Seems like it has potential.

I think this will be another boring scooby doo movie trying to hard to bait people to watch it by nostalgia. cyber chase did it right and so did monsters unleashed but the recent ones just felt boring. return to zombie island, curse of the 13th ghost, even scoob in the stone have tried and failed to do this. i'm sick of it. What's new era might have been a bit predictable but at least the movies had evidence to follow that was reasonable they've been doing without that in both the movies and even shows. Please WB give us some good content, not more crap! Even if it mean one movie every two years, i prefer quality over quantity.

Something that Discovery and David Zaslav strive for is quality over quantity to be fair

I will admit I did think that when I saw all the classic villains, but I'm remaining optimistic. Honestly, I'm shocked we even are getting a film at all this year. I had convinced myself we weren't when Scoob! Holiday Haunt's cancellation announcement came.

I haven't read that particular comic, but it would be really interesting if the plot of this film was inspired by one of the older comics.

There’s a lot that seems off about the description for this movie. But regardless, I am looking forward to it. Assuming and hoping that the movies in development currently don’t get the axe, this could be one of the last ever Scooby DTVs that we get. At least for a while. Kids programming and animation are getting big budget cuts now, so we could have only 3-4 DTV movies left. And after Velma and Mystery Pups? TV shows will run dry as well.

How could someone be so wrong? Scooby-Doo has been going on for 53 years. 53 years and they had a 4 year break from 1994-1998 but no matter what Scooby-Doo will not end at least when I’m still alive. I am not worrying about Scooby-Doo ending because that just isn’t possible. Also sorry for maybe being over the line in this comment it’s just I know Scooby-Doo won’t end.

Yeah, the longest stretch of years with no Scooby projects is just 3 years: 1995-1997 (Bravo Dooby Doo doesn't count since it's a Johnny Bravo ep, not Scooby). For a franchise that's over half a century long, that's REALLY good, we kinda take it for granted. Can't see Scooby stopping anytime soon at all.

Did you not see the multiple times where I said temporary ending? As in not permanent? I can’t imagine it’ll be for a long amount of time, but if this franchise isn’t seen as profitable by Zaslov then there could be another 4+ year gap, which yes I find very disappointing considering I have never been alive during a year that didn’t have a Scooby movie or show airing. So it would be very sad for me to lose those couple days a year where my family gathers to watch a Scooby movie, even if it is only for a few years before it makes its grand return.

Yeah they are cutting animated content but for streaming and network programing they didn't say anything DTV Movies
Reply
8/5/2022 02:36:48 pm
I think people are just assuming that DTV films might be cut if David Zaslav were to expand his philosophy across everything WB does, rather than just streaming/network programming. Who knows if that will happen though. I'm hoping it doesn't, because I would miss getting a DTV film or two every year. 8/5/2022 02:35:10 pm
The description seems a bit strange to me too. It seems weird they'd make a film like this, but who knows. Maybe they have different writers than usual working on it? I'm definitely worried about a lull in the franchise as well. If David Zaslav extends his philosophy about streaming projects to DTV films and streaming shows as well, the franchise could be in trouble. I don't think the franchise is going to end permanently, but I could see this meaning much less (or no) content for a few years.

I think it’s enough to be reputable, it’s a business that is trying to sell products. I don’t think they would risk customers by lying about it. Coco Diablo Is also almost too realistic for it to be fake. Did research and found nothing on the name besides flowers and a Mexican restaurant. It’s almost too specific, especially since it was submitted around the same time Amazon France listed it who leaked Sword and the Scoob but this time no description. We have had the past 3 DTV’s leaked, Happy Halloween, Sword and the Scoob, Courage. It also seems as if Snipple is releasing the projects they announced last year in order, Bugs Bunny Builders in July, Hamster and Gretel in August, now Trick Or Treat Scooby-Doo. Only thing that is least believable is the fact that they are releasing the movie *possibly* October 25th in the US only 6 days away from Halloween.

Ah, I wasn't aware of the DVDLand site's reputability, so thanks for sharing that. As for Krypto, hopefully we'll get it sometime next year. We first heard about the Courage film in 2019, two years before its release. Given the news about Krypto came out in 2021, it's possible it could get a 2023 release if it were to follow the same pattern as Courage.

Well this a surprise. We finally know that Trick or Treat Scooby Doo is a movie. The plot sound pretty interesting. Ghostly doppelgängers of the gang hmm I’m getting A Scooby Doo Valentine kind of vibe. It also sounds like Frankencreepy because were getting past villains. We should be getting a trailer soon. October is not that far away and August just started which means September is next. Can’t wait for this.

Looks interesting but we'll see if and when it's released. Also finished the first book in the series of Daphne and Velma. Was decent enough but maybe a bit to much pandering to classic Scooby rather than writing their own novel. 6.5/10, probably will give the 2nd one a read.

As a throwback to classic Scooby it was perfect, I just felt the author could have done more to make it their own work as it did mostly just seem to pander to the classic Scooby formula. I'll let you know how the 2nd book goes when I read it. 8/6/2022 11:37:30 am
Totally get what you're saying, although I think they were trying to do that to make it more marketable to Scooby fans. Daphne & Velma is a pretty hated movie among the fandom (unfortunately) so I imagine they were trying to put as much of the classic Scooby charm into it as possible, so that people would be interested in it.

Yeah, I found it odd too that they'd want to release another Halloween DTV so quickly after the previous one was just release. I would hope that they'd be more lenient on SCOOB! and not base any decisions off of that, since it was the pandemic and nobody wanted to go to theaters. Unfortunately, I could also see them drastically scaling Scooby media back in the next few years and/or making him into a Mickey Mouse-type character and using him for merch/advertising. I don't want that to happen, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Oh interesting...so the DVDLand and B2BWave descriptions seem to conflict, since the DVDLand description says that the gang is working with Coco Diablo to stop the monsters, whereas like you said it doesn't even mention the classic monsters here. I wonder which of the descriptions is the correct one.

I think both are correct, they are essentially the same plot. And they could leave out details incase the other one was too revealing. Because it never directly mentions the Ghost of the Scooby gang either. But yeah seems as if the Ghost and the classic monsters have a puppet master. 8/8/2022 09:01:59 am

I'm thinking it will be animated in the style of Guess Who, since they're going with Snipple Animation, the same company that animated Guess Who. 8/13/2022 05:10:20 pm
