Though we still have no word on the release date for Return to Zombie Island in the US, Amazon FR has created a listing for the film. It will be released on September 11, a Wednesday, in France. Typically, most DVDs in the US are released on Tuesdays, which could mean that the film will be released September 10. This is also the same week as Scooby's 50th anniversary, which would make sense that it would be released then. Stay tuned for more updates!

I hope Return to Zombie Island is at least a good film on its own cause I doubt it will be a satisfying follow-up. Curse of the 13th Ghost failed as a follow-up and with its ending failed as just being its own stand-alone film.

I've got hope for this one as well. Fingers crossed! Saw some supposed storyboards from the film that were leaked online, but I haven't posted them here as I have no idea of their legitimacy or where they came from. If the storyboards are true though, the storyline will have something to do with the cat gods.

There's way too many incorrect statements made there. While it can be argued that Curse of the 13th Ghost's ending didn't deliver the expected wrap-up to the original 13 Ghosts series, it absolutely didn't fail as a movie itself considering the goal of any movie is to entertain and I was infinitely more entertained by this film than the highly flawed original series it was based on.

It failed at telling its own story, yes. I was entertained, too, and settled with a 6/10 for it cause i liked a lot of it. But with lazy scenes like the avalanche scene and too heavily relying on Vincent Van Ghoul pun jokes, the film started to wear out its welcome. Then the ending was both extremely predictable and even nonsensical. How was the 13th ghost redeemed? He... stopped a car. That’s all he did. He could have done anything for all these years and did nothing and the warlock wasn’t even fully stopped. It made absolutely zero sense how he redeemed himself through that and it was a lazy ending through and through, even without the prior (and yes, entertaining) series. It definitely didn’t deliver as a finale and after the very entertaining Gourmet Ghost it definitely felt like a much lazier affair as a whole. 6/25/2019 04:47:14 pm
This is just my opinion, but I partially agree with you both. I don't think the film itself "failed," but many aspects of the film did not make sense, both logically and canonically. Several details in the film were inconsistent with the original series, like Vincent's castle actually just being an "Air B'n'B." The 13th ghost being redeemed by stopping a car also doesn't make sense. It still remains unclear why he chose that exact moment to "watch over" Vincent Van Ghoul (going by the explanation provided in the film), as logically he would have been in significantly greater danger when he and the gang captured the other 12 demons, which were real vengeful spirits.

It's just a movie, bro. (And a kids movie at that)

And all I ask is it makes me laugh and enjoy myself for the length of the runtime. That it hold up to a standard of the cartoon that I still watch to this day, which must mean I generally like most of it. The first half did this well, the second half did not, making the flaws stand out more.

Praying that this isn't as bad as 13 ghosts. If they try and make it look like they were all hallucinating due to some broken gas pipe or toxic waste dumped in the swamp bit and somehow make us believe all the monsters were fake again, I think a lot of us are going to rage.

Since listening to the Podcast Named Scooby-Doo episode with Tim Sheridan, I admit I felt a little better about the hallucination ending. It gave us an "end" to the series, though it was left open-ended and fans who believe ghosts exist in the franchise disagreed with Velma, whereas fans who don't believe ghosts exist in the franchise agreed with her. Not the perfect ending, but I think it kinda worked, even if it was false advertising on WB's part a bit.

Fingers crossed, all we can do is hope. I just felt the ending to 13 ghosts was a bit of a cop-out, but like you said that was kinda WB's fault. Still, at least it got an official ending and the audience have the choice in believing if the 13 ghosts are real or not.

There really is nothing to rage over. Even if the movie began with one of the characters waking up and saying they had a horrible dream about being chased by real zombies in a swamp it still wont ever stop the original movie from existing/being able to be enjoyed. Scooby-Doo has more alternate universe canons than DC and Marvel combined, no one's childhood is ever getting "ruined" by someone attempting a fresh new take on an old story.

True, but as Wildwind mentioned, it's the fact WB get us all hyped over an awesome sequel and then deliver something that's just so disappointing. Still as you say at least we still have the awesome original and we can still hope it will be good. 6/26/2019 06:48:39 am
Agreed. Hopefully Return to Zombie Island will be good, but if not, like you said we always have the original to still enjoy! Leave a Reply. |
