For those that don't know, I'm a huge fan of the original Dynomutt, Dog Wonder series that aired from 1976-1977. I was super excited when I heard this episode was coming out and was hopeful it would have a similar feel to the classic series. While this episode wasn't exactly like the original series, I definitely wasn't disappointed and felt it came somewhat close.
I really enjoyed Dynomutt and felt he was the star of the episode. I really enjoyed his quirky antics in the original show, so I liked his goofy characterization in this episode a lot. Blue Falcon, on the other hand, didn't impress me. His new voice actor, David Kaye, didn't do the best job in my opinion. A lot of his lines seemed very forced ("Let's go fight some crime!"), and good lord, I never want to hear Blue Falcon say "Click it or ticket!' again lol. I didn't even want to hear it the one time haha! Another very cringey line was Dynomutt exclaiming "it's selfie time!" Ugh lol. It was also kind of a little ridiculous that Blue Falcon immediately presumed that Dynomutt was dead when the vase fell on him, even yelling "You fiend! I will avenge you, Dynomutt!" Firstly, Dynomutt's a robot and has had much worse happen to him before in the series, so he's probably fine. But also, like, you're not even going to go over and see if he's okay first before just presuming he's dead? lol
Velma also seemed to like adding extra "the"s to things in this episode towards the beginning. She called Medusa "The Medusa" and calls Dynomutt "The Dog Wonder." I also didn't really care for her immediately blurting out Blue Falcon's real identity, and it gave me Curse of the 13th Ghost/Return to Zombie Island Velma vibes.
I realize that was a lot of criticisms, but all the rest of the episode was great. It was cute how Dynomutt became Blue Falcon after he was kidnapped, and made Scooby-Doo become him. It would have made much more sense to just replace Blue Falcon, but it was a very Dynomutt way of doing things to switch it around like that. Seemed like Dynomutt had planned for this previously though, given he had a Blue Falcon hat haha. I liked Medusa as well as a villain and she had a cool design, though I wish they would stop just putting "Monster" after every villain name in this series. It's really not needed. I do wish they would have been more consistent about Medusa's powers though. Scooby looked at Medusa for at least a few seconds before covering his eyes, which should have turned him to stone. Also, why did Medusa need to cover her own eyes when she looked at herself in the mirror? She knows she has no real powers, because she's a guy in a costume, so that makes no sense lol. Medusa wasn't quite your typical Dynomutt villain, but I thought she still worked well. Speaking of Dynomutt villains though, I loved that they referenced Fishface and Superthug in the episode, which are two classic Dynomutt villains.
It was fun to see Radley Crown return in this episode! Radley Crown being an art dealer was a plot point of the original series, but it only lasted a few episodes before they just stopped showing that part of Blue Falcon's life, so it was a pleasant surprise to have Blue Falcon's real identity return.
Overall, while not a perfect replica of a classic Dynomutt episode, I think it came pretty close and I really enjoyed this one. This gets ranked 13/51.

Yeah, this one was pretty good!

I didn't really mind all that much that the gang wasn't a bit part of the episode, tbh. Dynomutt and Scooby were able to carry the episode in a way where I didn't care that the gang was pushed a little to the background for part of it. The culprit was easy to guess for me too...but only because I accidentally saw the thumbnail :(

i thought he was avenging dynomutt because he got hurt but overall this is my favorite episode of the series
6/9/2021 09:14:48 am
I think you're right, I looked up the definition of "avenge" and it just means "to right a wrongdoing." I guess I've only heard as being used in a "avenge your death" kind of way. I'm glad you liked the episode so much!

This episode was pretty good. It was cool seeing Dynomutt and Blue Falcon again. I like the idea of Blue Falcon being kidnapped and Dynomutt having to rescue him and needing Scooby for help. Dynomutt was goody as always and his relationship with Scooby was cute and funny. Them no knowing how to fly the Falcon Fury and crashing in to buildings then Fred saying “ at least the door was open was funny. The Medusa Monster was pretty cool. I’m glad they went with something more original because I originally though they were going to reuse an old enemy of the superhero duo.

I liked how original that idea was as well! :) Dynomutt was super quirky and his relationship with Scooby was very sweet.

Best episode ever!!!!!!!!! :)

It was a great episode!

Honestly, this episode was just okay. Blue Falcon was done terribly, and the pacing was really off with all the traveling. The only thing that I really liked was the spay/neuter joke. Otherwise it was pretty average.
6/9/2021 09:03:40 am
I'm glad someone agrees that Blue Falcon wasn't done well. His lines seemed super forced ("Let's go fight some crime!") and I'm kinda glad he wasn't in a lot of of the episode lol. I forgot to mention the spay and neuter joke in my review, but that was definitely unexpected haha.

Even though the guess who series is over I hope in a future series or movie they have the Scooby doo gang team up with more superheros. Batman, Wonder Woman, Blue falcon and dynomutt, and the Flash were pretty cool and there are more cool heroes they can pair up with like Superman, Aquaman, and the Green Lanterns( it would be awesome to see Scooby battle Dexter the evil Red Lantern cat

It seems like they're doing a lot more crossover films so I'm sure it will happen again!
6/10/2021 07:50:02 am
I am not excited for these crossovers....
6/10/2021 10:49:10 am
The crossovers can get to be a lot after a while, so I know what you mean.

It was okay but honestly I was a little disappointed. I wished it was more like a classic Dynomutt than a Scooby Doo episode. Of course, that was always wishing for too much but I wish it was more of a super villain thing than a mystery format
6/9/2021 09:06:38 am
I'd say I felt the same thing, but I wasn't disappointed about it because I didn't think they'd match the classic Dynomutt format exactly. I was pleasantly surprised that they got Dynomutt's characterization down so well, and I think that made it feel a little bit like a classic Dynomutt episode.
6/9/2021 05:14:16 pm
Yeah it's slightly disappointing to me but I didn't really expect it either. But my main point of a super hero cartoon type format rather than just the mystery of the week would've been far better in my opinion
6/9/2021 10:28:54 pm
Thinking more like a Caped Crusader Caper or an Everybody Hyde type of deal
6/10/2021 12:37:00 am
Yeah, that's what I would have wanted too! Matching the tone of either of those episodes would have made this one even better.

I enjoy episodes like these too! Medusa was indeed a fun villain :) Sure, go ahead and post your rankings here! I'm also really glad that you saw my warning about the thumbnail pic on the video spoiling the villain!

Great list! Shocked to see Morgan Freeman at the very bottom, but I think I remember you saying you thought he dominated the episode too much.
6/10/2021 02:20:40 am
Yeah, it showed he was the main focus especially with the lack of suspects and the chases.
6/10/2021 10:52:40 am
I actually didn't mind that just because it was Morgan Freeman lol, but I could see why you wouldn't like that.
6/9/2021 04:41:56 pm
Dynomutt's driving and the Spay/neuter joke, best two parts of the episode.
6/10/2021 12:34:57 am
6/10/2021 12:16:39 pm
6/11/2021 09:33:34 pm
"At least the door is open"
6/12/2021 09:36:33 am
Haha that was a hilarious line.
6/12/2021 03:45:59 pm
I just discovered something, how they captured the Medusa Monster and umasked Timothy Smallbottoms is how they captured the clown and unmasked Jerry in The Crazy Carnival Caper.
6/12/2021 10:12:16 pm
Oh interesting! I wonder if that was intentional on the writers' part.

My My Medusa! What nasty split ends you have. LOL!
