The third episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? was definitely an improvement over the last. This was a pretty enjoyable one, in terms of having a pretty neat villain, and some good character development. One minor thing that bugged me about Scooby was how he seemed to be an amalgamation of the classic Scooby and the witty one from BCSD. His lines felt a bit off to me, particularly the "that's cray-cray" one and his manic freak-out over not having any Scooby Snacks.
I enjoyed Wanda Sykes as a guest. They worked her in well by having her know Scooby from a dog show. I admittedly could have done without her repeating "that's nasty!" so much at the end of the episode, however. One thing I really liked about this episode was how nostalgic it felt, to the point where I felt it could be an updated Where Are You episode. It was cool that they brought Magilla Gorilla into the episode, but I do hope they're not going to bring in a classic Hanna-Barbera character at the end of every single episode. I feel like that would make it a bit less special if this was done overly often. I also hope they don't overuse the "Shaggy and Scooby trick the monster" trope. While this was certainly done in the original show occasionally, it wasn't nearly every episode like they're doing it here, and it makes it seem like they're just copying what Jon Colton Barry's started back up in Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!. Despite my minor criticisms, this was a much more enjoyable episode to me than the last. I would say the Chris Paul episode still tops this one for me, however. I'm excited to watch the next one!

This episode wasn't bad, nothing outstanding but not bad. I do feel that these episodes may be focusing a little to much on the guest star and comic relief and not enough clue finding. Overall though I'd give it a 6.5/10.

My thoughts exactly. They seem to be focusing on the guest star so much that there’s no time to find clues or meet very many suspects. All the culprits have been pretty obvious to me, except I didn’t guess there were two people behind the Screaming Skulls (I guessed the Beefeater, but not the other one).

It did the bare minimum. I don't really think it was better than episode 2. It definitely didn't make as many obvious mistakes, but it had a fairly boring premise. An incoherent or at least empty motive. And, while Wanda is a great comedian and voice actress, her use as a guest star didn't really excite me or move the ball which is why they just randomly made up a story that her and Scooby have a relationship. She did have a couple clever lines so it wasn't a total fail.

I thought it was better than episode 2 just in the sense that this one didn’t annoy me, whereas the constant arguing in the other one became hard too watch. Lackluster is better than annoying to watch, at least IMO.

Fair Enough. Anything is better than Abraham Lincoln phoning it in and some great potential going to waste almost entirely (Episode 2.) 7/26/2019 06:30:41 pm
Abe Lincoln phoned it from beyond the grave haha. Yeah, Daphne really wasn't in episode 3 hardly at all. All her lines were basically interchangeable, as in Fred or Velma could have said them all because they were so generic. I agree this one was a mixed bag. Not as good as episode 1 or 4, but not as bad as episode 2. Episode 4 was far better then 1, however.

True this on the ep 2 arguing. I just meant she had a great line in 2. I have not seen 4 yet but will post some feedback. I'm avoiding going in hyped up on 4. just going to give it an honest view and see what I see. 7/27/2019 10:46:47 am
Oh okay, I see what you mean. Sorry for misunderstanding!

That's a problem in general with this series, but this episode was the worst example of it. There's not very many clues, and with the suspects, they're often not named and there's just in general not enough suspects to make it difficult to figure out who the villain is.

I am sorry to disagree with you WildWind but... I think this episode is good for what it is. Hell I think most of the episodes are good for what they are. Leave a Reply. |
