Seems like Tony Cervone may have just confirmed what the SCOOB! reboot is, which we've heard little tidbits about throughout the year. On Instagram, Tony confirmed that "Scoob!: Holiday Haunt" is now in production and will be released sometime late next year. The holiday film will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in the United States, along with a number of other WB films in 2022.
ComicBook.com also provides a cast list and description of the film. All of the original voice actors for the gang as kids in the original SCOOB! will be featured again as main cast in this film. Warner Bros. Pictures / Warner Animation Group Directors: Michael Kurinsky, Bill Haller Writers: Paul Dini, Tony Cervone Producers: Tony Cervone, Mitchell Ferm Cast: Frank Welker, Iain Armitage, Ariana Greenblatt, McKenna Grace, Pierce Gagnon, Mark Hamill, Cristo Fernandez, Michael McKean, Andre Braugher, Ming-Na Wen Animated Holiday Mystery Adventure. To celebrate Scooby Doo's first Christmas, 10-year-old Shaggy and the gang take him to a holiday-themed resort owned by Fred's favorite Uncle Ned. When the park is beset by a ghostly haunting, the kids must solve a 40-year-old mystery to save the resort and show Scooby the true meaning of Christmas. Thank you to Scoobyfan4ever for letting me know about Tony's post!

I'm happy we finally got something too! I'm imagining this will be one of our DTVs next year, the other one being Krypto, meaning that all of next year's DTVs are accounted for now.

It's gonna be an HBO Max exclusive, so I don't know much this counts as a DTV 12/23/2021 07:33:51 am
I guess it technically isn't. I know SCOOB! counted as one of the two movies last year, though that also could have been because of the pandemic. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I’m confused is this the sequel or is this a one-off special? Either way I’m so excited!!!

I'm a tad confused myself, but I believe this is the sequel. The article did say it is a film.

It did say that it was from Warner Bros. Pictures, so it's a film by default, I assume, but to say that it is SCOOB! 2 is clearly a stretch.

It’s the sequel. Check Tony Cervone’s insta post someone asked.

When they enumerate some of the exclusive HBO Max projects (including Scoob: Holiday Haunt) in that cropped image from the article, they say these are among the FILMS for 2022 on HBO Max. So yes, it's a full length movie, not a special or something. And I'm sure this is what Tony Cervone was talking about a few months ago, because they must have already started pre-production on it this past summer considering it's coming next year (which is earlier than I would've expected). Seems like it's releasing before Velma too. 12/23/2021 07:29:33 am
Yeah, this has to be what Tony was talking about this summer. What makes you think this is coming out before Velma though? In the Instagram post, Tony said it would be coming out "this time next year" which would imply December, and I could see us getting Velma before that.

There's been no word on a potential release window for Velma yet. So I think it's not coming withing the next year. 12/28/2021 07:06:19 pm
That's fair. Personally, I still think it's somewhat possible we'll get Velma this coming year, as we heard nothing about the Reunion Special beyond the initial announcement in May, then suddenly they started promoting quite a bit a few weeks before it's release. I guess a special is different than a series, but I could still see them announcing some stuff early next year and then releasing it mid/late next year.

This seems interesting sadly hbo max doesn't exist in the uk but I'm not really that upset because by the time this film releases hbo max will probably be everywhere else and unlike when SCOOB took two months to be released in the uk releasing this on hbo max seems reasonable this seems more small scale compared to scoob so I understand them no releasing it in cinemas but yeah I'm interested about this.

It makes me sad that they don't have a consistent way of releasing things that get sent to streaming in other countries. I hope they release it in the UK (and everywhere else) soon after it's released here!

They usually release HBO Max stuff on HBO Go in places Max hasn't come yet.

That's such a bummer for you all that you won't be getting HBO Max for so long. Hopefully they'll find some other way to distribute the special in those other countries.

Amber noel Yes really this article confirms that certain parts of europe won't be geting HBO Max untill 2025. 12/28/2021 07:00:15 pm
That's horrible you all have to wait so long. Hopefully there are no more delays.

I'm loving this already! I loved SCOOB! so I'm definitely excited for this! I wouldn't mind if they made a SCOOB! CGI series about them young. It would be like A Pup Named Scooby Doo! Then later in the series they flash forward to when they are teenagers.

I'm really excited for this too! I would love to have a full series based on SCOOB!, even if it just had them as kids. I enjoyed the original film quite a bit and it'd be fun to have a series in that same vein.

Side note, I still fully expect them to make a Scoob sequel that follows the teen version of the gang after the events of the first Scoob. Holiday Haunt would be better classified as a prequel overall, but I guess it's also a sequel to the first 10 minutes of Scoob only. But yeah, once Holiday Haunt comes out, we'll very likely look forward to an actual Scoob *2*, y'know that I mean.

I could see that happening, and I'd be totally on board for it. Or perhaps they're putting out this prequel to test the waters for how a Scoob! 2 would do? I'm not sure.

I think they're trying to regain some of the audience that was disappointed in Scoob, with a (hopefully) more classic Scooby-Doo approach in Holiday Haunts. Then they can do the actual follow up to Scoob that will (hopefully) be more in line with Holiday Haunts in terms of execution. They should know this iteration won't work if they're not doing mysteries.

That's an interesting thought. I could definitely see them creating a true sequel to SCOOB, if this does well enough.

Interesting… kinda telling that this isn’t going in theaters unfortunately. Can’t see much more coming from this set of movies/ the alleged Hanna Barbers Universe they were planning

I was wondering what happened to the HB Cinematic Universe too. They were talking about it a lot, and then the pandemic hit and SCOOB! was pulled from theaters, and we haven't heard anything about a HB Cinematic Universe since. Since SCOOB! obviously didn't do as well as expected (since it didn't go to theaters), I wonder if they scrapped the cinematic universe idea.

I’m certainly not big fan of SCOOB!, but I was looking forward to a potential sequel that could expand upon the world set up by the movie while telling a considerably less messy (and hopefully a lot funnier) story. I’m split on how I feel about this second upcoming movie. On the one hand, it does truly represent a chance to do what I just said! However on the other hand, it’s also just seemingly giving the people exactly what they want without much of a creative or expansive edge to it. I’m still looking forward to watching it and I have faith it could be a really good time! I just hope it’s not just a standard DTV story with CGI and actually ties well into the HB Cinematic Universe and the iterations of the characters introduced in SCOOB!

I enjoyed SCOOB! and am looking forward to the sequel, but I agree there were a few areas the film was lacking. I'm really hoping there is some sort of creative/universe expanding edge to the film, but like you said, having a standard DTV-type story wouldn't really expand on anything. Hopefully they do actually tie it in with SCOOB! well and build upon the first movie in some way.

Honestly, I never thought the first SCOOB! movie was bad, I just think people got too judgmental that it wasn't really a mystery movie like it is for just about everything that was made for the franchise. I look forward to seeing how this holiday spin-off goes, especially because I admire the animation for it.

I think the fact that the film didn't have a mystery was the main reason why a lot of people didn't like the film. Personally, I enjoyed how SCOOB! explored the adventure side of the Scooby franchise a bit more, and I liked the animation as well.

This was a nice surprise a few days ago when this was announced…looking forward to it! Also, off topic again but issue 113 of the Scooby-Doo Where Are You Comic went back to all original artwork again. So I really think they are slowly shifting to (hopefully) getting rid of stock art completely! It was a great issue!:)
