Paramount-Warner Brothers Merger Approved by Justice Department

Since the news of the merger in December, I've been sporadically giving updates on the WB-Paramount merger. Yesterday saw some big news for the merger, which has needed to go through an approval process. The New York Times has reported that The U.S. Justice Department has now approved the Paramount-Warner Brothers merger. Officially, this is the last formal obstacle the merger needed to go through in order to be approved.

However, some states are considering legal action to block the merger according to BBC . California attorney Rob Bonta has expressed his intent to sue over the merger, arguing that the merger would consolidate power in the Hollywood industry down to just a few studios. Last week, Bonta announced that he would soon decide whether to take legal action.

While the merger could still face obstacles to being approved, in terms of official processes, it is considered a done deal now that the Justice Department has approved it. Unless there's significant likelihood of one of the cases reversing the merger, this will likely be the last article I'll publish about it.

So how often do you post new and updates on the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger on Scoobysnax, WildwindVampire?

Daily basis perhaps?

BTW WildwindVampire, Warner Archive Collection will still continue to release animated H-B and Ruby-Spears shows, Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery (including Droopy), Looney Tunes and others for the forseeable future.

This will probably be the last post I make about it, unless the states' cases seems to have a significant chance of reversing the merger. I've wanted to keep updates occasional to just the biggest announcements like this, since the merger isn't directly Scooby-related.

Oh okay. No need to worry about that, WildwindVampire.

Me too. I feel like the merger is probably a done deal atp. I don't see any of the states' cases doing much now that it's cleared every other obstacle.

i'm fairly sure the eu is also opposing the merger, and the federal usa was always going to be the easy part considering it's run by one of ellison's buddies. quoting someone from a discord server i'm in here about how this will probably go... (censored, because i'm not sure how far the filter goes...)

'We're about to see the limits of money and power play out in real time. Larry can be buddy-buddy with the president all he wants, I'm almost certain he'll have a golden parachute out, but when that AI bubble pops? With his whole "constantly borrowing against stock"?

Ya see this? [image of oracle's stock value in the '25-'26 period] That massive death spiral in the valuation of Oracle that required circular financing from NVIDIA and OpenAI to bail his sorry bottom out?

Remember how a metric shit ton of his net worth is purely and completely speculative and the Paramount WBD buyout involved his money, the Saudi government's money, and a bunch of private equity firms who will eat the company alive if they don't get their return?

Remember how they were somehow absolutely dumb enough to make it an all-cash offer with no stock options?

Remember how Paramount was already 8 billion in debt?
Warner Bros was already 30 billion in debt.
And they did, again, an all cash offer of roughly 9x the size of Paramount's value as a company to get WB?

This ain't a monopoly, this is a shrapnel grenade disguised as a sturdy house of cards.'

I hope that the merger doesn't happen soon

I've been wondering when it will happen too. I imagine it will take the rest of the year to sort everything out. We'll probably start seeing some of the effects next year.

Well, the merger will probably take a while anyway.

I’m just glad that they’re merging with a company that they’ve at least worked with in the past and therefore can trust, rather than Netflix (though it would’ve been interesting to see a Scooby-Doo/Stranger Things DTV crossover!)

And yet Hollywood is still concerned about what would happen if Paramount and Warner Bros finally merged they would be in total shock
