This past week, the annual Annecy Festival has been taking place in France. Each year, the festival hosts a wide variety of presentations for new animated shows. A few new tidbits about Yokoso Scooby-Doo were shared during Warner Brothers' portion of the presentation.

The series will include "all sorts of monsters" inspired by Japanese culture. According to Cartoon Brew, the show will involve "monsters being caught in balls" similarly to Pokémon, which was animated by the same studio (OLM) as Yokoso will be. Senior Vice President Jay Bastian also assured fans that Scooby's design was changed very little.

“We didn’t really change the design that much. You don’t really mess around with perfection,” Bastian said.

Thanks to
scooby dooby dooooooo for sharing the Cartoon Brew article!

I can't wait for this show! If only Velma, Fred, and daphne were in it.

Yeah, I would have preferred they were in the show as well. I'm hopeful it'll still be great without them. I assume Daisuke Doo, Takumi and Yume are meant to take their place, but it would be cool if the gang could make a brief cameo similar to how they did in Get a Clue.

Well at least Daphne returned in "The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show" (1983) onwards after being absent between 1980 to 1982, WildwindVampire.

BTW, i still like "The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show" (1983) as well.

I enjoy that series quite a bit as well. It was a good return to form after the shorts.

Scooby-Doo: Pokemon Edition. Lol at how Jay Bastian was a supporter of Jim Krieg's "no real monsters" mindset and now he's here to promote this show.

It is really interesting that they've pivoted to including real monsters after being so staunchly against it for a while. I wonder if Jim Krieg is still overseeing the franchise in any way. If he's not, that could potentially explain them allowing it for this show.

We know Jim Krieg hasn't been involved in any Scooby shows since SDMI (not counting Scoobynatural). And his involvement in DTVs was just writing or producing some films here and there. I think it's overstated that Krieg was properly in charge of the franchise. He never was. All he ever oversaw was a few movies; they have plenty of producers and unfortunately for us WB decided to let him at least partly handle the 2 worst movies in the franchise's history. 2019 was rough. He was also a producer on Sword and the Scoob and Krypto Too. So a producer with a range of garbage to meh. Not worth letting him on more projects. We haven't had a film since Krypto Too, so we have no clue if they'd have him on-board again or not. Hopefully not. The thing is that there were still projects with real monsters right in the midst of films involving Krieg where he wanted to have no real monsters where it made the least sense to do so. And then on top of that Krieg himself has worked on multiple other projects with supernatural too. It's not like the franchise is suddenly doing supernatural again now, they have been for a long time in decent amount without particularly extensive breaks.

All very fair points. I guess we don't know to what extent Krieg was in charge of anything beyond those films. I'm not opposed to him ever being involved in any Scooby projects again - stuff like What's New, SDMI and a few of the DTVs he was involved with were good (although he probably had much more limited decision-making ability). I just hope they won't let him on any more projects where his extreme preference for fake monsters will derail the project like it did with the 2019 sequels.

Hmm, Scooby the Pokemon version. Don't know how to feel about that. I like anime and all, but I don't think every series needs some kind of anime version, though we do have the Mook films, which are more or less anime, they were animatedby a japanese studio, plus I think in Japan all animation is considered more or less anime, anime is just short for animation.

I am curious about the villains, there are some weird and scary demons, ghosts and monsters in japanese folklore.

Also, Toei Animation worked on the second half of season 3 of The Scooby-Doo Show.

Yeah, I've been wondering about how the tone will correlate with the villains too. It would be neat if the show had a darker tone.

Toei Animation? Is that the one that worked on ''The Jetsons'' (1980s revival), "ThunderCats" (1985-1989), "SilverHawks" (1986) and the "Sonic CD" opening and ending sequences perhaps, Becker and WildwindVampire?

This is cool but what’s up with the 2 Velmas in the new Robot Chicken special they announced? The one promo image definitely shows 2 Velmas in it. https://www.polygon.com/robot-chicken-new-specials-2026-adult-swim-documentary/

Two Velmas!? In a Robot Chicken special?

Oh, crumbs! (Which is also Huxley Pig's catchphrase).

Thanks for the info Fred! One of them looks like Kate Micucci to me. I'm wondering if it will be a parody of Kate's Velma and Mindy's Velma. I can't tell if the other one is meant to be her.
