UPDATE 4/6: According to this article, HBO Max was able to negotiate with WB to keep these series on the service for the foreseeable future. No content will be removed.
Much of the Scooby-Doo content currently on HBO Max will unfortunately be removed from the service in April for an unknown reason, according to Warner Brothers' Press Room. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, The Scooby-Doo Show, The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1979), The Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Show, The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour, and The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1983) will be removed from the service on April 30. The only Scooby-Doo content remaining on HBO Max after the removal will be the the first two Scooby-Doo live action movies and SCOOB!. Thanks Whackman for sharing this article and pointing this out!

I for one think WB is trying to make customers to subscribe to Boomerang, since those shows are available there. I'm saying that WB is removing most H-B contents from HBO Max as a attempt to push the customers to sub or re-sub Boomerang because they probably lost a lot of customers, since many of them abandoned it and subscribed to HBO Max.

Maybe some of these smaller streaming services may die, but I doubt anything is gonna happen to the big names like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, or Disney+

There is absolutely NO way streaming services are gonna die anytime soon... they are literally keeping the show and movie industry alive right now. The majority of people don't share your opinion, they like streaming services, and it's the regular way they absorb cinema nowadays.

streaming services often remove and censor content. it does not really matter how many of them are out there what matters is what kind of content they have to offer on those sites. 3/26/2021 11:03:02 am
I also disagree that some of the big streaming services are going to die. Streaming is bigger than ever right now in the age of COVID and there are tons of new services being launched like Peacock, YouTube TV, Paramount+, etc.

Some will likely die, I doubt they'll be able to convince people to buy many of them without also killing off cable, and that will start a whole new streaming war... I'm honestly amazed people are still happy with Netflix, they seem to be generating a lot of badwill by killing shows on cliffhangers before the creators can ask for more money...

Just a heads up, I messed up in the post yesterday. Haunted Holidays is not still on HBO Max and was removed a long time ago. I was going off my own How to Have a Complete Scooby Collection guide to see what was still on there, and I guess I forgot to remove that one from Christmas. I've updated the post to correctly reflect that only SCOOB! and the first two live action movies will be remaining on there.

I wonder if HBO Max is removing these Scooby-Doo titles so other streaming services can have their turn to have them?

Not sure. It was already on the Boomerang streaming service when it was added to HBO Max.

Many shows, do not get their licenses renewed on streaming due to them not being profitable or simple not enought interest from the audience. Yes they are lots of streaming sites out there and here lies the problem since only a a few of them are truly worth subscribing. I think the problem is that they are too many streaming sites, out there and to make matters worse new ones keep getting launched. such a tactic will slowly cause the downfall of streaming.

Have you actually watched Looney Tunes Cartoons? They are regarded as the best LT content since the Mel Blanc days

WarnerMedia Studios & Networks owns both Boomerang and HBO, and AT&T owns WarnerMedia, so would licensing costs have been an issue?

I hadn't thought of licensing costs being an issue! I personally like owning physical copies more as well, though I have bought some Scooby content digitally (especially the stuff that hasn't been released physically yet).

I assume there was some rights issue with WB, so they had to announce that they were taking it off, but they ended up being able to negotiate the rights after all and were able to keep it on. Does that make more sense?
