UPDATE 4/6: According to this article, HBO Max was able to negotiate with WB to keep these series on the service for the foreseeable future. No content will be removed.

Much of the Scooby-Doo content currently on HBO Max will unfortunately be removed from the service in April for an unknown reason, according to Warner Brothers' Press Room. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, The Scooby-Doo Show, The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1979), The Richie Rich / Scooby-Doo Show, The Scooby & Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour, and The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1983) will be removed from the service on April 30. The only Scooby-Doo content remaining on HBO Max after the removal will be the the first two Scooby-Doo live action movies and SCOOB!.

Thanks Whackman for sharing this article and pointing this out!

I for one think WB is trying to make customers to subscribe to Boomerang, since those shows are available there. I'm saying that WB is removing most H-B contents from HBO Max as a attempt to push the customers to sub or re-sub Boomerang because they probably lost a lot of customers, since many of them abandoned it and subscribed to HBO Max.

The thing to keep in mind is this, despite the fact that WB owns those shows it costs money to renew a license for a show. they simply may not wish to spend money in order to renew them since they are already available on Boomerang. However the drawback to this that those shows are in worse quality on that site

What people need to realise is that streaming is not forever. Nobody ever promised or said that that those shows would remain on that site for good. I think it is rather foolish of people to think that nothing will get removed from streaming. Since as we all know content does get removed from streaming. I think most streaming sites, will most likely die within a few years. And when that does happen no doubt then something else will most likely replace it. Change is inevitable.

Maybe some of these smaller streaming services may die, but I doubt anything is gonna happen to the big names like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, or Disney+

There is absolutely NO way streaming services are gonna die anytime soon... they are literally keeping the show and movie industry alive right now. The majority of people don't share your opinion, they like streaming services, and it's the regular way they absorb cinema nowadays.

streaming services often remove and censor content. it does not really matter how many of them are out there what matters is what kind of content they have to offer on those sites.

When I purchase a DVD or blu-ray I am happy to have it. since I know nobody can take it way from me once I have it in my hands, things looks different when it comes streaming. besides this is not just my opinion. I know a female uploader who shares my point of view regarding this matter.

Look at this way first we had VHS tapes, laserdiscs then DVD and Blu-ray. The world itself keeps changing and we either roll with these changes or we get left behind. in the end nothing lasts forever

Granted streaming services may not die anytime soon but one day they will die. as I said before Change is inevitable in the end.

I also disagree that some of the big streaming services are going to die. Streaming is bigger than ever right now in the age of COVID and there are tons of new services being launched like Peacock, YouTube TV, Paramount+, etc.

Some will likely die, I doubt they'll be able to convince people to buy many of them without also killing off cable, and that will start a whole new streaming war... I'm honestly amazed people are still happy with Netflix, they seem to be generating a lot of badwill by killing shows on cliffhangers before the creators can ask for more money...

Peacock is probably the initial way it will go(free supported with ads), but I won't be surprised if in 5-10 years there will be more bundles again cross company and we're basically into streaming cable.

for now yes but who is say what will happen to streaming in a few years ? Besides it all depends how much content those sites have to offer. Besides people simply can't afford to subscribe to every streaming site. And I have no deisre to subscribe to every one of them, and removing content from big sites like HBO Max is hardly smart either, since it may cause some people to unsubscribe as a result.

Just a heads up, I messed up in the post yesterday. Haunted Holidays is not still on HBO Max and was removed a long time ago. I was going off my own How to Have a Complete Scooby Collection guide to see what was still on there, and I guess I forgot to remove that one from Christmas. I've updated the post to correctly reflect that only SCOOB! and the first two live action movies will be remaining on there.

I wonder if HBO Max is removing these Scooby-Doo titles so other streaming services can have their turn to have them?

Not sure. It was already on the Boomerang streaming service when it was added to HBO Max.

Many shows, do not get their licenses renewed on streaming due to them not being profitable or simple not enought interest from the audience. Yes they are lots of streaming sites out there and here lies the problem since only a a few of them are truly worth subscribing. I think the problem is that they are too many streaming sites, out there and to make matters worse new ones keep getting launched. such a tactic will slowly cause the downfall of streaming.

Another problem is censorship the Looney Tunes franchise for example looks just pain bad these days. since they banned guns in it and also Pepe Le Pew.

Have you actually watched Looney Tunes Cartoons? They are regarded as the best LT content since the Mel Blanc days

Yes, I watched Looney Tunes Cartoons and I think it is predictable shit.
Utter garbage they recycles the old jokes and team ups verbatim. it is not funny. If its goal was to recreate the same feel of classic Looney Tunes, it wasn't very successful at it. If it were, we'd be seeing a lot more webms and gifs being made from it and people breaking down the animation.
It's almost unfair to the show, but the old Looney Tunes was such a particular combination of attitude, technical drawing, pacing, and timing (the one thing everyone ignores). The closer one tries to emulate something, the more grating even small differences become. It's just not a good path to pursue. The Mickey Mouse reboot did the smarter thing. I also don't like the fact that they got rid of guns in it.

The Scooby-Doo content's the best part of streaming services like HBO Max 🤎

WarnerMedia Studios & Networks owns both Boomerang and HBO, and AT&T owns WarnerMedia, so would licensing costs have been an issue?
I share Whackman’s view towards owning hardcopy video formats vs streaming. Not only censorship, but better audio and visual quality. Streamed audio can sometimes be lo-fi, but the theme for ‘Be Cool Scooby Doo’ when heard on Boomerang is more like sub-lo-fi, and the rest of the show is kind of metallic and grating compared to any other Scooby series or movie they’re making available.

I hadn't thought of licensing costs being an issue! I personally like owning physical copies more as well, though I have bought some Scooby content digitally (especially the stuff that hasn't been released physically yet).

I assume there was some rights issue with WB, so they had to announce that they were taking it off, but they ended up being able to negotiate the rights after all and were able to keep it on. Does that make more sense?
