 For the past several months, it's been rumored that HBO Max's gradual removal of Scooby content has been a part of a larger initiative to purge all Scooby series from their service. This rumor came from a Reddit thread, which accurately predicted every removal date for each series. Unfortunately, we now have official confirmation that removing all the Scooby series has been HBO Max's plan all along. On September 1, the two remaining Scooby series (Where Are You and The Scooby-Doo Show) will be pulled from HBO Max according to their Amazon pages (linked above).
Velma will be the only Scooby series left up on the service. This is because it is a HBO Max Original Series, so the licensure agreement is likely different and does not require HBO Max to have to pay as much as they would have to for the other series. The fate of the two remaining Scooby movies on HBO Max (SCOOB! and Trick or Treat) is also unknown. It's worth noting that even though What's New was removed from HBO Max on August 1, the series is still available on Tubi. Where Are You and The Scooby-Doo Show are also currently available on Tubi, so fans may still be able to watch those two shows there. On a personal note, it is frustrating to think that the only way most of the series are available now are through owning the DVDs or digitally purchasing them on Amazon, Apple TV or Fandango. In the age of streaming, there's no reason for such a popular franchise to be completely unavailable on streaming. I hope in the coming years that WB rethinks their strategy regarding animated content, or sells the franchise off to another company who will treat it better. As much as I hate to think about Scooby leaving WB, which has been its home for five decades, it's also silly for them to own a franchise that they refuse to release anything for. I'm really hoping the franchise's unavailability on streaming is just a temporary thing.

i don't even think Kaling Show will be safe they removed Close Enough a couple years ago and that was an HBO Max original too (of course getting rid of The Kaling Show will be the best decision they've made in a few years) what was the point of getting rid of Boomerang Streaming Service to add all those shows on HBO Max when you're just gonna remove them anyway?? seriously Zaslav you're just a sad old man who's upset because cartoons give people joy and you have never experienced joy yourself 8/18/2025 11:14:44 am
Come to think of it, I think they removed Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs too, so I guess there is a possibility that Velma will be removed as well. And yeah, totally agreed that this is a great time to start collecting these on physical media!

That's ridiculous. I still like "Scooby-Doo", "The Flintstones", "The Jetsons", "Yogi Bear", "Wacky Races", "Top Cat", "Thomas & Friends" (1984-2021, model and CGI-era ones), "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Super Mario", "The Pink Panther", "Doom" (including SgtMarkIV's "Brutal Doom" mod for the classic "Doom" games), "Duke Nukem" and others. 8/18/2025 08:44:36 pm
I just hope that Tubi and other free streaming services take all of the purged Kids and Family oriented content from HBO Max and that way we still have some family friendly content to go around while HBO Max remains adult friendly and whatnot however we still have physical media and piracy to keep up happy

I just hope that we see all of those family friendly movies and TV shows that were removed from HBO Max migrate to other streaming apps such as Tubi Pluto Roku and a few others someday somehow in the future

It's a real shame that all the Scooby Doo series and films have been removed from HBO Max. At least if they don't want to broadcast any more children's content, why not create YouTube channels for children's franchises: Scooby Doo WB Official, for example, and the same goes for other franchises like Looney Tunes. This would be an opportunity to publish all the series and films free of charge, as well as compilations and extracts from the entire franchise. 8/26/2025 09:01:28 am

I didn't realize that, but that's such a bummer! Has all the Scooby content been removed on HBO Max for you guys too? I know sometimes the content on HBO Max doesn't line up internationally with how it is in the US, so I'd be curious to know if the same purge of Scooby content is happening over there too.

I've just checked. So yes, there are almost all the Scooby series and films on HBO Max (in France anyway). Overall I think that's all there was on the platform where you live. Otherwise, some missing titles are available on CANAL VOD (part of the Canal+ group) and on France.tv and the replay version of Boomerang France. 8/26/2025 04:36:30 pm
Great to hear that you still have so much of the content available! Everything but Velma will be removed from HBO Max next Monday in the US, so after that we'll just have Where Are You, The Scooby-Doo Show and What's New on Tubi, and SDMI on Netflix.

Making an official Scooby-Doo YouTube channel would be a really cool idea. Not entirely sure how it works since I've never watched a YouTube livestream, but I believe the WB Kids channel sometimes does livestreamed marathons of Scooby. Something like that with a Scooby-only YouTube channel (or just putting certain episodes on demand like the VOD services you mentioned) could be fun. Leave a Reply. |
