Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! is the Next Scooby-Doo DTV

The next Scooby-Doo direct-to-video movie is in fact not King Arthur's Court like many of us suspected, but rather, the Halloween one that we heard about last December.. It will be titled "Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!" and will feature The Scarecrow (from Batman), Elvira and Bill Nye. They must really love Elvira, as this is the third Scooby movie she's starred in (including Haunted Hollywood as "Drella Diabolique") in four years! We don't know exactly when it will be released, but it will be out sometime this fall. The movie will be produced, directed and written by Maxwell Atoms, the creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy!

I guess it will come out in October. Hopefully it's better than last year's DTVs. This looks like the craziest DTV since Scooby Doo & Kiss. I wonder when the King Arthur movie will come out.
The trailer was pretty fun, Scooby & Shaggy especially had some great hilarious moments. Scarecrow being the villain excites me the most for this movie. I'd rather do without Elvira. The Bill Nye angle is intriguing, with all the weird things he seems to bring the gang.
But an important question! Because of that, is it supposed to be in same continuity as Guess Who? That would get confusing quickly lol.

I'm guessing October too. I think King Arthur will probably be pushed to next year.

I'm excited though too and have high hopes for this one! I agree we don't need Elvira again given this is her third movie. I'm interested to see how the Scarecrow being the villain plays out too. Including Bill Nye again is also an interesting choice, but I didn't think he did a great job in Guess Who so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. I wonder if they'll know Bill Nye from Guess Who in this film! That would be interesting if there was some continuity there.

I haven’t watched scooby doo consistently since the 13 ghosts sequel movie I thought they ruined it and couldn’t watch anymore is guess who and zombie islands return good?

Return is exactly the same style as Curse of the 13th Ghost, so if you hated that one, you definitely won't like Return to Zombie Island. Guess Who is hit or miss, IMO. Some of the guest stars are great (mostly in the 2nd half of the season, IMO) but others are not so good and the guest stars feel like they're barely trying or unhappy to be voicing themselves. I would at least give Guess Who a shot, and would recommend the second half of the first season (episode 14 on, excluding George Takei and Bill Nye, which were not good episodes IMO).

I hear a lot of bashing from the last two dtv movies they weren’t that bad but they could have been better also. Curse of the 13th ghost I like Daphnes new look. It reminded me on how Velma had a new look in franken creepy, the references from older Scooby doo series and movies was a throwback. Return to zombie island I like the references again, the characters looking like the other characters from zombie island 1 and the chase scene music sequence was pretty good.

That's fair. I honestly would have liked the DTVs more if they wouldn't have been marketed as "direct sequels" since there were tons of continuity errors in both.

imo I liked curse of the 13 ghosts and I found return to zombie island to be ok but out of the two i prefered curse of the 13th ghost

All I'm worried about is if the whole thing will be reavealed to be the scarecrow's fear gas,hopefully not cause I want some more real monsters in scooby-doo

Yeah, my first thought on seeing the trailer was that the monsters are going to end up being hullucinations from The Scarecrow's fear gas...

Please no real monsters! I never want them to include real monsters in Scooby ever again! Leave that in the past please. I really hope there’s a logical explanation behind those monsters. Now that you mention it fear gas makes sense since scarecrow is known for that.

"A Halloween Hassle in Dracula's Castle" would be amazing since it's never been released, I hope we get that. I'd be bummed if we just got "To Switch A Witch" and "A Scooby-Doo Halloween" again.

Sadly I reckon we will get another 2 or 3 repeats of episodes we already own. “A Scooby halloween” and “headless horseman”. It’ll just be like WB to pull that one on us.

A halloween hassle is one I’m hoping for.

Looks good but nothing can be worse than the trash we got last year. Although would have been nice if they'd kept the Scarecrow's identity a secret for the movie. I'm guessing they probably put back King Arthur after all the Covid-19 stuff hit.

I'm betting they wanted to promote SCOOB! more since it couldn't be in theaters, so King Arthur got pushed to next year. I wasn't actually bothered by the reveal of the scarecrow's identity, tbh, but I agree that it might have been nicer if they didn't reveal it before the movie actually came out.

I think the bonus episodes we'll get is The Headless Horseman of Halloween and A Scooby Doo Halloween because this movie has pumpkin monsters and a scarecrow. The Headless Horseman has a pumpkin head and looks for someone else head and call it his own. A Scooby Doo Halloween the scarecrow shave pumpkins heads and there running amuck causing mayhem. That’s what I think.

I'm positive we'll probably get A Scooby-Doo Halloween just because of the scarecrows, but I really have my fingers crossed for us to get A Halloween Hassle in Dracula's Castle. Would be a huge wasted opportunity if we didn't.

I'll make an obvious prediction. At some point we will see Batman or at least one of the Bat-Family (Robin, Batwoman, Batgirl or Commissioner Gordon) near the end. I have a hard time imagining going to the trouble of using a Bat-Villain and Arkham Asylum without at least a nod to the Bat.

Bring on a Bill Nye/DC Comics crossover movie!

I'm kind of thinking we won't see Batman, since he's already had his own crossover and they have so many other guests, but I can't imagine there wouldn't be at least a nod to him (or a brief apperance).

Not sure I really like this new direction Scooby is taking.

Everything seems a bit too action, not enough mystery. It seems to be what the younger fans like. It all seems a bit easy to work out and predictable. I really don't find monster trucks and explosions all that entertaining tbh.

Just gimme a great mystery movie or a series like Mystery Inc and I'll be happy.

I think since they went in the direction of the late 90s dtvs and Mystery Incorporated before, unless they can do something as eerie and dark/thrilling again it all just comes across as a bit bland and predictable. I mean, like, now they've shown us they can do it we want more like that.

I also think they should try to stop imitating the 70s seasons. I really don't think that format works set in the present. For me, that eerie music, the classic animation style and dated dialogue is what made it so amazing. That's why when mystery inc came out I was so relieved.

I basically just think they should change it up again, but stick to that new style for longer. Personally I'd be happy if they changed the classix formula completely. I think now I'm getting older it is just getting a bit cliche for me.

But hey, it's just my opinion....

Yes, I especially agree with the last part of your comment (not necessarily disliking the live-actionish stuff, but I don't disagree that it is very live-action like either, just my opinion). Guess Who seems sort of like the 70s formula is forced in for certain episodes. Some episodes are great, but others feel like they're trying too hard.

It had the most mystery in it though which overrules that. Action is Ok, but when it's only that it gets ultra boring very quickly.

Be cool was good cause it was actually funny too.
(and mystery inc was funny too).

Everything I liked about the original formula isn't included anymore, like the creepy music, less cringe and more serious dialogue. The monsters were also scarier as thy went for a more lifelike design with the characters.

The problem for me is not that they use it, but they keep using it over and over to the point where it's almost every DTV now. I would even settle for 1 crossover a year, and have the typical 2nd movie be a regular DTV without guests, but we don't even seem to be getting that anymore.

You think so? Maybe with the Billy and Mandy writer on board, that's what we'll get! I'm not sure if Tim Sheridan is involved with this film, but he was the one responsible for the fake monsters in the other two movies from last year.

Let’s hope the monsters will be real this time. However, I didn’t know that Tim Sheridan was behind the fake ghosts and monsters all along! I believe Maxwell Atoms can properly rewrite Curse of the 13th Ghost in the future.

Not necessarily fully, because WB execs did impose some strict restrictions on his writing process like no Scrappy, but he was the one who decided to make the ghosts fake in order to please those who wanted the original formula of "man-in-a-mask" for the show.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a little uncreative to have a DC character as a villain? Crossovers are fine but with the 2018 film with Batman and Guess Who (which is all about cameos), I'm starting to get tired of so many crossovers.
I thought that for the Halloween movie they would make a kind of "Spooky Scarecrow" but in a long version, which wouldn't be very original either.

But I'm excited anyway, it looks better than the last 2 movies, which aren't THAT bad either. I wonder if they'll explain how they recovered the Mystery Machine, or if they'll pretend the continuity of the previous 2 films doesn't exist, which I wouldn't like.

I mean, the continuity based on the Sheriff warning them to stay out of mysteries and the sale of the van wasn't that bad. And I love that they're back at Crystal Cove, according to the press release. I don't understand people complaining that the name given to their town wasn't "Coolsville." Crystal Cove sounds much better, less dull.

And I hope that the solution to the mystery is not the Scarecrow's halucinogenic gases (there is a disadvantage of putting a DC character as a villain; we already know their powers and tricks and we can foresee how they will act.

In any case, my theory (I hope I won't say any unintentional spoiler) is that the trailer shows the identity of the villain because that's not what's important in the film.

Scarecrow will release a radioactive liquid or something like that (you can see in one part of the trailer that there is a machine/tank in the left corner from which a trail of green liquid comes out. In the scene where Shaggy and Scooby look at the pumpkin patch from far away, aka 0:38). The liquid will mutate the pumpkins and the gang will beat them all, I guess. Funny detail, at the "final battle", Daphne's wearing Elvira's outfit and vice versa, and Fred is bare-chested.

If so, it would be something "supernatural", although the mutation is a scientific fact and has nothing supernatural or unexplainable, but so perhaps they conform in equal parts to the purists fans of rationality who do not want real monsters in the movies and those who want supernatural things.

Either way, it looks like the film will have action and a new Mystery Machine. I don't know why, but I hope that the Jack O'Lanterns won't destroy it just when they have just recovered it (in the trailer when the title "Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!" appears, you can see that in that scene a Jack O'Lantern breaks the front glass of the van. And I doubt that it is a scene made apart, you can see Fred running from the flying pumpkin out of the van.

I don't want to judge the movie before it comes out, but yeah, on the surface of things, it's a bit uncreative.

My theory is that the continuity will continue and Bill Nye builds the gang a new Mystery Machine. At the beginning of the trailer, we see the original Mystery Machine, so I'm thinking at the end of the film they'll paint it just like the old one.

I think people wanting Coolsville to be the town name is because of nostalgia. It's been the name of the town since Pup I believe, and people don't like change.

Totally agree with your sentiment about not wanting the Scarecrow's gas to be the explanation for the mystery, but I fear it will. I think your theory is also correct about the villain's identity being revealed because it's not important, or it's revealed so quickly in the movie that it doesn't matter.
