Today marks 600 weeks that I've been posting weekly Scooby fun facts on here! It's hard to believe it's been that long, but I still have so much fun coming up with these every week.
To celebrate this milestone, this week's fun fact is contributed by a very special guest writer. Morgan Baden, the author of the last two Daphne & Velma novels, was kind enough to share a fun fact about a surprising roadblock she encountered just as she was about to finish the final novel in the trilogy. Fun fact: my husband accidentally spilled water on my laptop just as I was writing the final chapter of Buried Secrets! It totally fried and ultimately died. Sob! I was on deadline and ended up finishing the book on my husband’s desktop, with its ancient keyboard that he’s used for decades. (Literally. Letters are peeling off.) Because we have a good automatic backup system, I didn’t lose much of my work, but it was enough to be stressful. Luckily, I turned in the book on time…and got a new laptop a few days later. A big thank you to Morgan for contributing this week's fun fact to celebrate 600 weeks. I'm excited to share that Morgan and I did a full interview, which will be posted on the blog very soon! Be sure to check back this Friday for the rest of our conversation about the Daphne & Velma novels!

Thanks so much! I'd definitely recommend checking out the series when you get a chance. They're a really cool exploration of the franchise from a more mature (young adult) angle.

This is such sad news! It's been a long day and I should get to bed, but I'll post about it in the morning. Thank you for sharing this!

Apparently I should not have waited until morning lol. The post is written up, but there's a glitch in the blog editor where I can't actually publish any posts. (I just get an error message when I try to publish) It's saved as a draft for now and I'll publish the post as soon as it's resolved.

Congratulations on your 600th fun fact! This must have been an extremely stressful event for Morgan Baden, but I hope this incident at least allowed her to rework some passages she wasn't happy with in her first draft. I wonder how different the final text is from the original sequel. It's always interesting to note that Crystal Cove is often favored over Coolsville for darker stories. I can't recall if this is the case in A Rogue Thorn, but more recent Scooby-Doo movies like Happy Halloween and The Sword and the Scoob are set in Coolsville. Perhaps this is simply a nod to Mystery Incorporated, but I feel that Coolsville's past, as seen in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, is far too "clean" for curses and other darker-than-usual phenomena to find a place there.

Thank you so much! I would be curious to know how different the final product came out too, although I imagine she probably tried to make it as close to what she originally wrote as she could remember. I find that interesting too! Coolsville is a bit of a sillier/zanier sounding name, so I feel like the reason is probably that "Crystal Cove" sounds a bit more mature to align with the darker series. I just double-checked A Rogue Thorn, and they actually use both Crystal Cove and Coolsville. Crystal Cove is considered a suburb of Coolsville in the book.

I always remember that time George was put on triple shift by Spacely with only half an hour time to sleep and eat lmao. Poor George indeed. 3/24/2026 08:43:41 am
Omg I remember that episode lol. George probably should have taken one of the times he'd been fired to find a better job. I think pretty much any other job would have been a step up haha.

Congrats on the milestone, onto 700! One final Mystery Incorporated one for you but one that's probably already known. In Nightmare in Red when Nova comments it is always a group of 4 people and an animal, Mr Whiskers is missing from the Darrow family during the flashback

Thank you! February 21, 2028 here we come haha. I remember noticing that when I rewatched the end of SDMI before the new year! I always thought that was odd.

Wow, I didn't think he'd be a series regular! I'm so curious how his role will fit into the show if he's that constant, I assumed he'd be more of a background person

I'm intrigued that he's going to be a consistent character in the series! Interesting that they didn't confirm his role though, despite that it's already been reported by insiders. Thanks for the info!
