Two different title cards were made for the two-part 1983 and 1984 episodes. The episodes originally aired with title cards at the beginning of each part, saying "part 1" and "part 2." On the Cartoon Network VHS releases for "Wedding Bell Boos," "A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle" and "The Nutcracker Scoob," there is just one title card for both parts at the beginning. I'm unsure whether these title cards were recreated specifically for the VHS, or if they were redesigned at some point during syndication.

I'd be curious to know too! I didn't go through and check this, but I believe the earlier DVD releases use the single title card, whereas the later DVDs have one title card for each part.

BTW, George Feltenstein (CEO of Warner Archvie) has just confirmed on his podcast last year that there more be more Scooby-Doo content coming to both DVD and Blu-ray in the not too distant future and he's also recently confirmed that he is working on restoring the entire Hanna-Barbera and Ruby-Spears back catalogue for all future DVD and Blu-ray.

I hadn't heard that he'd also confirmed the entire Hanna-Barbera and Ruby-Spears catalog, but that's amazing news! I hope they get to releasing the Scrappy series soon. Where'd you hear that news?

Thanks for the fun fact! It's strange that the title cards for these episodes were changed for the VHS releases. I'll have to check if that's also the case for The Nutcracker Scoob on Winter Wonderdog.

R.I.P. Udo Kier. He brought to life one of the most successful villains in the franchise. His voice was well-suited to the darker atmosphere of Mystery Incorporated. It's thanks to him that Professor Pericles seems so sinister in the series. There aren't many speaking villains in the franchise who appear as menacing as Pericles, except perhaps the villains of the revival era.

I forgot to answer the poll yesterday. All the monsters in Ghoul School are scary, but the creepiest for me is the Mirror Monster. Its main appeal is that its appearance is unexpected. Its voice is just as terrifying when it tries to capture Scooby-Doo. It's a great idea to throw an extra obstacle in Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy's path in the final part of the film!

I finally decided to watch Straight Outta Nowhere last week. I really enjoyed it! It's like it blends several elements of the franchise perfectly. For example, there are the funny scream faces and humor of A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, villains similar to Professor Pericles, the creepy butler from The Boo Brothers, and the presence of multiple monsters like in The New Scooby-Doo Movies. I think this last point is the real strength of Straight Outta Nowhere. It's absolutely impossible to predict what will happen next. The monsters' appearances are always quick and unpredictable. This is particularly effective at the beginning of the film, when the viewer still doesn't know if the monsters are real or not. I'm pretty sure Courage was inspired by Scooby-Doo. Thankfully, Courage isn't another Scooby clone. He's much funnier, and the appeal of his episodes lies in watching him try to save Muriel from wacky monsters, not in solving a mystery. In other words, Courage fills in the gaps in Scooby-Doo's narrative. The fusion of these two universes is therefore much more effective than a crossover between Scooby-Doo and one of its spin-off series.

Muriel and Eustace were also wonderful supporting characters. I felt Eustace was a grumpier version of Fred Flintstone, while Muriel was a gentler version of Velma. Her relationship with Velma was well-developed. I think it was a more natural way to weave a moral into the film. Velma's guilt about not knowing everything is a much more normal trait for her than her jealousy of Daphne in Moon Monsters Madness. Interesting to note that my last thought about Velma doesn't apply to this movie!

I had a great time watching Straight Outta Nowhere! It's definitely one of the best movies in the franchise since 2010. I'm glad it wasn't shortened to make it a Guess Who episode.

While browsing the site where I watch Boomerang, I discovered I also have access to Cartoon Network. The channel airs a Scooby-Doo movie every weekend! So, I saw Pirates Ahoy for the first time this past Saturday. I was only moderately impressed. Like all the What's New movies, the mystery and the supporting characters are very well developed, especially Fred's parents. It's fun that they take Fred out of his role as the gang leader so we can see more of his funnier side, which is characteristic of A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and What's New. Red's parents are, for me, the main novelty of Pirates Ahoy. Otherwise, I found the story moved too quickly, like an episode of What's New instead of a movie. Where's My Mummy and Goblin King have the advantage of taking more time to build the story and introduce subplots alongside the mystery. In Pirates Ahoy, everything revolves around the main quest. The pirates are very effective monsters, but it's not very difficult to guess who's behind it all. A few months ago, Boo Brother #1 Fan told me about his appreciation for this film, and I managed to reply with my usual lengthy text, having only seen a few scenes and the end of the Boomerang story (I was waiting to see The Flintstones and stumbled upon the last 10 minutes of Pirates Ahoy). To be honest, if I had the chance to rewrite my review, I don't know what I could add. Fred's parents and the pirates seem to me to be the only new and noteworthy elements of Pirates Ahoy. I would have liked the gang to spend more time on land. I found that part a bit rushed.

Boomerang recently changed his schedule. I can't watch Duck Dodgers anymore, but I do have the chance to watch Jellystone. I think it's a great idea to bring together several of the lesser-known Hanna-Barbera characters like Magilla Gorilla, Top Cat, and Jabberjaw. I was surprised to see Tom and Tub from Mystery Incorporated appear in an episode! I don't know if you saw it, but I also watched the episode with Scrappy-Doo. He's not in it much and therefore doesn't add much to the episode, but the story was still enjoyable, especially since Rocky Ratrock and Klunk are also in it. My only slight disappointment is that Yogi's speech no longer includes the rhymes from the Yogi Bear Show, but it's not a big deal. I can understand that finding rhymes while also moving the story forward can sometimes take a while. This adds to the charm of the 1960s episodes. Also, I'm glad Cindy has a bigger role in Jellystone compared to The Yogi Bear Show. In that sense, her character development is similar to Daphne's.

I'm starting to watch more recent Warner Bros. series like Jellystone and Tiny Toons: ACME Looniversity. So I decided to rewatch Be Cool and found I enjoyed it even more. I think Be Cool is a show that requires you to accept its humor, but once you do, it's one of the strongest series in the franchise.

If I remember right, Winter Wonderdog had just one title card on "The Nutcracker Scoob," but I'd also have to go back and check to be sure!

Completely agreed Pericles was one of the most menacing villains of the entire franchise! Udo did an incredible job.

I also found the unexpectedness of the mirror monster to really add to his creepiness! The idea of a ghostly doppelganger randomly jumping out of the mirror is very freaky.

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Straight Outta Nowhere so much! Like I've mentioned before, it's my favorite film from the past 10 years. I completely agree with you that they did a great job blending aspects from multiple eras of the franchise. From the sense I've gotten of Courage, the appearances of the monsters are a lot more sinister than we've seen in Scooby. The quick scares felt like the best of both worlds imo; where it wasn't too scary for Scooby, but also worked to service that trope of Courage. I completely agree that Courage leans more towards humor rather than logic, so he and Scooby have really great chemistry together. I believe you're right that the original Courage series was heavily inspired by Scooby.

Agreed that Muriel and Eustace both made great supporting characters! I hadn't thought of it before, but I definitely see the comparison between Muriel and Velma! Muriel seems to serve as the voice of reason, but is much more overtly kindhearted than Velma is. Even though a few of the scenes with Eustace were cringey (like the rap scene), I must admit he gave me several good laughs throughout the film lol. I'm also glad they didn't make the film feel like an extended Guess Who episode. A big part of what made it work for me is that the tone was darker, and felt like a blend of both franchises. The film arguably couldn't have serviced both franchises properly if it had just kept the Guess Who tone.

That's awesome that you also have access to Cartoon Network! It's too bad to hear that Pirates Ahoy didn't work for you. I've always really liked Fred's parents here much more than Brad and Judy from Mystery Incorporated. They worked well for that series, but Skip and Peggy feel like they embody so many more qualities of Fred from the What's New era, like his warmth and kindness. Yeah, the movie definitely is very focused on the mystery without any other subplots or elements of the film. It worked quite well for me, but I can totally see why you wouldn't like it if you enjoyed the subplots and slower development of the other films from the What's New era!

That's neat that you have the chance to watch Jellystone now! I loved how many different obscure Hanna-Barbera characters they featured throughout the series. I've seen all the episodes, so I remember those two that you mentioned. The Scrappy episode was pretty fun, but I thought it was a little below average for this show. The cameos were cool, but most other episodes were funnier to me. And don't forget "Wacky Races" (1968) on Boomerang USA (which has been rerun since August 2025), Spooky Space Ghost, although that channel still airs the Turner prints rather then the 2024 restoration ones for some reason IMO.

BTW, i still wish that Boomerang USA should start airing the 2024 restoration prints of "Wacky Races" (1968) soon (i think), because it looks more colourful and zoomed-out a bit IMHO.

I checked, and The Nutcracker Scoob has the title cards for parts 1 and 2 of Winter Wonderdog. My DVD is only from last year, and it's possible that the episode only had one title card on the first copies of Winter Wonderdog.

Straight Outta Nowhere is indeed particularly strong compared to other films of the last ten years. It's also a good thing that it's not structured like Abracadabra-Doo and Camp Scare. This demonstrates that it's not necessary to follow the path of the revival era and the 2010 films to create a good movie. Since Be Cool, and perhaps even Frankencreepy, I think the franchise has entered a more zany era, and Straight Outta Nowhere is a good model for future productions. Straight Outta Nowhere struck a good balance between the two universes: less frightening monsters with unpredictable appearances. However, I think that, as in The New Scooby-Doo Movies, the monster's sudden appearance added an element of humor to the film. This wouldn't have been the case if the monsters were similar to those in Courage, but their designs, closer to Scooby-Doo, didn't raise the film's tone too much.

I agree that Eustace's rap scene was awkward, but I had a hard time not smiling! I liked the scenes where he scared Courage with his mask. Surprisingly, Eustace was a character who worked well with Shaggy and Scooby. He wasn't always grumpy and sometimes supported the others' ideas. He's a bit like Mr. Spacely with George Jetson, being neither benevolent nor antagonistic. His personality provided a pleasant contrast to Muriel's. Since Guess Who is primarily a Scooby-Doo series, it would indeed have been complicated to integrate the two universes as seamlessly as in the film. Straight Outta Nowhere presents Scooby and Courage equally, but Mystery Inc. would necessarily have taken up more screen time in Guess Who. This would have meant the scenes that focused more on Muriel and Eustace would have been cut.
I agree that Skip and Peggy work much better with Fred than his parents did in Mystery Incorporated. Brad and Judy only serve to illustrate how much Fred can only rely on his friends, but Skip and Peggy highlight Fred's character traits. It's good that, for once, Fred has kind parents who aren't involved in crime. It's much funnier to meet family members as zany as him in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and What's New.

Thanks for the link! I hadn't noticed the Laff-A-Lympics reference in the episode. I agree that Scrappy was presented appropriately this time. First of all, he isn't considered the main villain. On the contrary, he's just a rival of the Jellystone kids, much like Rocky Ratrock. My theory is that Scrappy and Rocky are similar to Dick Dastardly in this episode. Scrappy isn't evil like in the live-action. Much like Dastardly, he cheats his team to ensure his town wins. The presence of Klunk, Dastardly, and Muttley in their Flying Machines adds to this comparison.

Completely agreed! I love that the film carved out its own lane and did something entirely different. I agree that the multiple monsters trope was definitely presented in a more humorous way in The New Scooby-Doo Movies. I'm glad they did a little twist on it in this film though. Making the quick scares so spooky worked really well to capture the tone of the original Courage show. I forgot how creepy some of the villains from the original Courage were, but looking at the article you linked, I completely agree that many of these villains go far beyond the level of Scooby villains!

Haha, although it's a little cringey, I enjoyed his rap too lol. I agree with you that he worked really well with Scooby and Shaggy's dynamic. Strangely, as Eustace said in the film, him scaring them with the giant mask never got old. It fell into the "so bad it's funny" territory for me with how it kept being used despite not being scary at all. I agree that he contrasted well with Muriel!

I'm not sure if you have access to all the Jellystone episodes through Cartoon Network, but there's actually a full episode centered around the Laff-a-Lympics titled "Laff Games," which I really liked. It's actually one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. I was really glad they didn't just make Scrappy into a full-on villain again too! I think having him be a part of competing team felt like a good middle ground, where he wasn't necessarily a strong antagonist, but still fit with the others as being young misfits of sorts.

Happy Thanksgiving, Wildwind Vampire! I hope you're having a great day :) In Canada, our Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, but as far as I know, we don't have a big celebration like a balloon parade. Speaking of which, I saw that a Snoopy Boy Scout balloon appeared in your parade (do you organize one or more parades across the country?). It must be amazing to attend or see pictures of it every year! Have there ever been Hanna-Barbera balloons in Thanksgiving parades?

Funny, I just watched Laff Games this Tuesday! It was a really good episode. It was a great way to pay homage to the Laff-A-Lympics while also being innovative with the events. The funniest part was hearing Huckleberry Hound talk about the problems his family had with chickens.

Finally, Dick Dastardly and Muttley are part of the Really Rottens! I wonder why they were replaced by Mumbly and Dread Baron. I did some research on this, and it seems Hanna-Barbera lost the rights to Dastardly and Muttley to Heatter-Quigley Productions, which co-produced Wacky Races. I don't know how Hanna-Barbera regained the rights in 1988 for Yogi's Treasure Hunt, the duo's first reappearance since Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machine (fun fact: the series premiered on the same date as Scooby-Doo Where Are You, September 13, 1969).

Boomerang airs two episodes a day, except on weekends. Of the episodes I watched this week, Yogi's Juice was one of my favorites. It was funny to see all the residents of Jellystone become like Yogi. It's strange that the injection doesn't bring any side effects like an appreciation for picnic sneakers or rhyming speech. I don't know if other episodes do this, but Cindy was also well featured. I thought Cindy's personality would be similar to her character in Yo Yogi!, but it's not at all. In Yo Yogi!, Cindy shows more interest in fashion, animal welfare, and helping others. This empathetic behavior might explain why she's a doctor in Jellystone, but she seems more interested in making her mark on the history of medicine and science, as seen in Hot Guys, Cold Turkey (it's great that the writers incorporated Orbitty into the story!) and Girl, You My Friend. Maybe I'm completely wrong; I haven't seen enough episodes to form a solid opinion, but it's exciting to know there are still plenty more to discover!

Did you know I'm technically a Jellystone citizen too? A few months ago, while visiting the Cartoon Network website, I found a game that lets you become a citizen by completing three challenges inspired by episodes. I haven't seen them yet, but one involved jumping with Top Cat over fish to cross a stream, and another involved piloting Cindy's rocket. After completing these challenges, I got the keys to the city!

Thanks so much! I've had a really good day so far. I've actually never been to a Thanksgiving Parade in-person, but I imagine some cities have parades outside of the main Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's not every city though, as some cities are quite cold around this time of year haha. I was pretty sure there had been Hanna-Barbera balloons in the Macy's parade, but I wasn't sure how many. I just looked it up and discovered there have actually been a lot! Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, and Yogi Bear appeared in the 1978 parade, and Yogi appeared again in a Christmas-themed float in 1983. In 1984, there was a "Scooby-Doo's birthday" float in honor of the episode "Happy Birthday, Scooby-Doo." I genuinely had no idea they'd made a float in honor of the episode, but that was super cool to learn! :) It looks like there were a few other floats and balloons that appeared over the years as well, including the Flintmobile in 1993, Tom and Jerry in 2020, and some one-off characters in various years. So glad to hear you enjoyed "Laff Games"! I agree the joke with the chickens wronging Huckleberry's family was really funny. I think my favorite joke of the episode was when Yakky was grappling with her conscience lol.

I had heard about them losing the rights before, and I've always found that to be so odd! I'm not quite sure what the full reason was that lost the rights, but it's odd that it was just for those two characters for a short period of time. Thanks for the link!

"Yogi's Juice" was another good episode! I like your idea of having them reference his characterization from the old series; that would have been cool! From having seen the whole series, I can confirm you're definitely correct that Cindy's character traits lean more towards being smart and her identity as a doctor. They don't really ever explore those other traits in this series, which is interesting. I think they would have been a good fit with this more evolved version of her character. Yeah, it was really cool that Orbitty was featured in an episode! I definitely wasn't expecting that.

That sounds like a super cool game! Congrats on completing all the challenges! From what you described, it sounds like the Top Cat one might be referencing "A Fish Sticky Situation," where (without ruining anything) Top Cat runs a scam involving fish sticks. It's not quite a fit with what you described, but it's the only fish-related story with Top Cat that I can remember. Maybe the game was just loosely inspired by the episodes? The Cindy quest might be "Bleep," which involves Cindy meeting an alien.

Lol! Mayor Raspberry is definitely the best leader Jellystone has ever had haha. I really liked that episode. Like "Vote Velma," I thought they did an amazing job making a political commentary that was fun and humorous, without making it feel too serious or polarizing.

To Michael Kenchington: Thank you, I hadn't realized that Wacky Races episodes had been rebroadcast since August. I don't know if you have the same schedule as me, but Wacky Races airs at 2 a.m. where I live. I remember the show airing at a more typical time last year, and I'd love for it to go back to that.
It's great that Warner Bros. has restored the episodes! I also hope the episodes will be shown that way, but it's possible Warner might decide to save this new format for the Blu-ray of the complete series coming out this year. I don't know if you also watch Looney Tunes, but it's sometimes nice to see the episodes as they were originally produced, in black and white. Perhaps in the future, Wacky Races fans will be on the hunt for Turner prints?

But Spooky Space Ghost, i'm in the UK and live at 5 Newbiggin Road, Ashington, Northumberland (which is the North East of England), and the Boomerang U.S. schedule is in North America IMHO.

BTW, Wacky Races (1968) actually airs on Boomerang U.S. on Mondays in North America and rebroadcast since August 2025 this year anyway, and that show has also already been released on Blu-ray from Warner Archive Collection earlier this year.
