I was shocked how low-quality it was when I replayed it a few weeks ago! I appreciate all the references to past media, but yeah, the gameplay itself could not have been any more basic lol.

I've never had the chance to play this game, but I love it when cartoon video games incorporate references to previous series! Spotting these nods is a lot of fun for those who have watched the series in question. In my case, only Looney Tunes World of Mayhem gives me this experience, but it would be awesome if the same could be true for future Scooby-Doo games. I imagine it will never happen, but I wish we could play memorable guest stars like Don Knotts or the Harlem Globetrotters in addition to controlling a member of the gang! Thanks for the fun fact!

Thanks for reading my list yesterday! I'm going to explain why I don't like The Scooby-Doo Show as much as the other series in the franchise. I should first point out that my opinion is only based on seasons 1 and 3, since I haven't seen the second season. I find that each Scooby-Doo series has a unique feature that is one of its main attractions and allows it to stand out.
For example, in Where Are You, Scooby-Doo is more in the spotlight, and much of the humor in this series comes from him. In The New Scooby-Doo Movies and Guess Who, the guest stars and their relationships with the gang bring a touch of uniqueness to each episode. In What's New, the gang members and the use of new technology set the tone for the franchise. As for Mystery Incorporated, it will be remembered for its attention to detail throughout the episodes, the construction of a gigantic mystery, and a particularly heavy atmosphere.
However, in The Scooby-Doo Show, I don't see any unique element to the series that really stands out. When I first started watching The Scooby-Doo Show, I thought it was a new, expanded version of Where Are You. However, I ultimately found the episode structure to be particularly repetitive, with no new elements to complicate things. Many episodes unfold as follows: The gang arrives in a new location where they are told of recent monster sightings. Shortly after, Shaggy and Scooby are chased by the monster. They tell Fred, Daphne, and Velma, who decide to investigate. After questioning a few suspects, they split up, and Shaggy and Scooby encounter the monster again. When they manage to find the others, the gang has enough clues to set a trap. Shaggy and Scooby act as bait, but fall into the trap along with the monster. The monster is eventually unmasked, and things return to normal.
All episodes of the series operate like this, it's true, but each series brings a unique element to the formula, as mentioned above. The Scooby-Doo Show simply applies the same formula throughout its episodes. Compared to Where Are You, the atmosphere is also less heavy, since some mysteries take place in less frightening locations, such as a football stadium or a construction site. As a result, The Scooby-Doo struggles to distinguish itself from its famous predecessor.
I still think The Scooby-Doo Show paved the way for more complex investigations and original monsters. Series like What's New Scooby-Doo could not have existed without The Scooby-Doo Show. However, I find it less accomplished than the other major series in the franchise. If I had to simply summarize my opinion of The Scooby-Doo Show, I would say it's the smallest of the major series in the franchise.

That's a fair criticism! I would argue it's probably one of the series that varies most in tone from season to season. Each season seems to have a different tone, with season 1 feeling like kind of an evolved version of Where Are You, season 2 being notable for darker plots and episodes, and season 3 being more antics-heavy. Of course, these are just generalizations and there are episodes in certain seasons that feel more like the general tone of other seasons (i.e. "The Harum Scarum Sanitarium" feels like it could be a season 2 episode, and "To Switch a Witch" and "A Menace in Venice" feel like they could fit in season 1), but generally I think this is accurate. The difference that stands out to me between TSDS and Where Are You most is TSDS having more complexity to the mysteries, and the settings feeling a bit less dark (although I would argue the tone of many episodes is dark in a different way to make up for it). Thanks for sharing your opinion on the series! Always interesting to hear different opinions on the show.

I definitely plan to buy it tomorrow! I don't know how fast I'll read it, but I do plan to post a review of it on the blog whenever I finish.

On Johnny Bravo, Don Knotts also appeared in "Johnny Makeover", alongside Weird Al Yankovic and Blue Falcon.

He was also referenced all the way back in the 2nd What a Cartoon pilot for the show (which was included in the series premiere later on), the Amazon Women short. But he didn't appear there,

Not sure if this is joking or not, but it would be the most pointless lawsuit possibly of all time. The legal bill would be about 100 times more expensive than how much they would actually get for THIS of all things even if they did somehow manage to win that case (which they would not)
