Fun Fact of the Week #569

In Fun Fact #448, it was discovered that the Scooby PC game Horror on the High Seas had an unused prologue that wasn't included in the game. In my post where I revisited the Scooby Flash games, Becker shared that one of the other PC games has another lost opening scene!

Mayan Monster Mayhem had an unused prologue featuring an additional scene giving more context to the game. The scene shows Shaggy and Scooby making chili at home, and discover they're missing a hot pepper as one of the ingredients. Despite the game featuring other cutscenes, this prologue was never available with the game on the WB website for an unknown reason. When it was available on WB's site, the game started with Shaggy and Scooby speaking to the head of the Culpepper Hot Sauce Factory.

Speaking of revisiting things, this is off-topic, but I have a recommendation of something I've been enjoying to go with this week's fun fact! I used to listen to podcasts quite frequently during the pandemic, but I haven't had as much time to in the past few years. A couple weeks ago, I rediscovered the short-lived Scooby podcast Scooby-Doo and Sister Too. I believe I'd listened to a couple episodes when it first was released, but never checked out the full 18 episode series until now.

The podcast features two sisters (Liz and Lydia), who have little in common outside of liking Scooby, reviewing Scooby episodes and films together. I've been absolutely loving the podcast these past couple weeks! It's really interesting to hear reviews from fans who haven't seen as much of the franchise. Since a lot of the review podcasts are from fans who have watched the episodes and movies frequently, it's interesting to hear their thoughts from only having seen the episodes/films once or twice before, or in some cases, getting their very first impression. I love the overall relaxed vibe of the podcast, and the humor and silliness is right up my alley lol. You can tell they both had a blast recording all of these episodes! If you haven't checked out their podcast already, I would highly recommend giving them a listen!

That's funny, I distinctly remember watching both these opening scenes on a Kids WB page. I'm not sure, but I think at some point these flash games had some sort of mini site where the prologue could be viewed.

That's really interesting to know! I wonder why they were separated from the game.

Not as plot relevant as the High Seas prologue, since you get up to speed well enough without it, but still a very fun scene with a change of scenery.

It's strange that the game's opening cutscene isn't playing. I imagine there was a programming glitch on the Warner Bros. website. In fact, I recently discovered that the Scooby-Doo Where Are You Complete Series DVD also has a cutscene in the main menu. It didn't appear on my small portable DVD player, but it did on the TV player. Perhaps some models of computers or DVD players can't skip the opening cutscene.
This podcast sounds extremely interesting! I think it's important to hear the opinions of fans who haven't necessarily seen all the films and episodes in the franchise. This way, they have a more interesting opinion on average films and episodes, instead of simply making comparisons to Zombie Island and Where Are You (I admit I have this habit of always comparing new Hanna-Barbera releases to their predecessors, and not giving them a chance.) Thank you for this excellent suggestion :)

On another subject, I've been absent from the blog for several days without any reason, even though my goal should be to be able to write every day. I'd like to know if you find it bothersome to take the time to respond to my messages, even if I publish later than the others, and not always receive a response the next day.

You could be right about it being a glitch! I didn’t know about the cutscene on the Where Are You complete series DVD, but that’s super interesting! Thanks for sharing! Totally agreed that it’s always fun to hear unique opinions on the franchise!

I’m not bothered at all by your comments! I’ve enjoyed chatting with you about Scooby and some of the other HB shows. It doesn’t bother me if you’re too busy to reply for a few days, and whatever time you post your comments is totally fine. I usually check the blog a few times a day to respond to comments, so I typically am able to respond the same day, but I’m never bothered if others take a while to respond or whatever. I totally get being busy, so you should feel free to just comment whenever you have the time and interest. :)
