A very rare Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue! exclusive bonus disc was released in 2007, including "Operation Dog and Hippy Boy," an episode of the series that has not been released anywhere else. Though its unknown which DVD this bonus disc came from, when you put it in a disc drive, the disc name is listed as "Chill Out" (screenshot below) which would imply that the disc came with certain copies of Chill Out, Scooby-Doo!. The bonus disc came in either a paper sleeve or an actual DVD case. This exclusive bonus disc also has a minute-long "sneak preview" clip of storyboard art from "Shaggy and Scooby World," the season 2 premiere of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue.

Here's an image of the paper sleeve version.

Lastly, here's what the back cover looks like.

Thanks so much to The Cop for making me aware of this disc's existence, and to B for pointing out the disc's source name, and the two different formats it came in.

My biggest regret in life is not buying this. I saw it once while on vacation in Frederick, Maryland in a used book and DVD/Blu-ray store. I was much younger and in my head told myself that it must be something easier to find online later since it was a “bonus disc” and didn’t pay the $10 for it there, which I felt was a lot at the time. Any time I have been back, it hasn’t been there. Stupid younger me!

we all have regerts in life my biggest regret is not buying Inspector Gadget: Season 1, Volume 3 (of the 2015 series) on DVD when I had the chance sadly that DVD is now very much of print and truly impossible to find anywhere even on sites like ebay.

At any rate at least we have WEB-DL rips for the whole series of get a clue, I prefer the WEB-DL rips for season 2 instead of the CN rips. You see the thing is when CN aired season 2 of get a clue in europe years ago, they aired those episodes without the cold openings
this resulted in certain scenes being removed and the running time being shorter then they orginaly were for example most episode run at 23:06 but when they aired on CN they ran at 19:08 minutes. Luckly I have the AMZN WEB-DL rips which happen to be the full episodes unlike the CN TV rips.

On another note, I think Boomerang cable is more and more losing interest in Scooby-doo. As of this month Scooby-Doo shows or movies, no longer air on cable in the afternoon during the weeekdays at all at least not in Germany and Poland that is.

Interesting CN would cut off the intros. They did that with the first run airing of "Man in the Mirror" as well.

The Boomerang TV network seems to have been phasing out Scooby now for years. It's kinda sad, but they seem to have shifted to cartoons that are just a couple of years old rather than airing "classic cartoons" as they used to.

Must networks and company's are focusing more on streaming so I see this as a good thing because a lot of good new shows are coming on streaming

whackman
8/2/2021 01:41:51 pm

Unfortunately, for others certain streaming sites like HBO Max are not available in europe, uk, canada and other parts of the world. The same goes for Disney+, which is also not available to stream in certian countries like russia, poland, turkey and etc.. which results in people being forced to pirate the shows and movies they want.

Also it's true that cable tv has been on the decline for a long time now but I doubt it will ever completely die. Besides I am fairly certain that sport fans for example would rather watch sport on the Big screens rather then the small ones.

Becker
8/2/2021 03:18:17 pm

HBO Go acts and is EXACTLY like HBO Max for the countries that don't have Max yet.

WildwindVampire link
8/2/2021 04:15:40 pm

I don't think cable TV is ever just going to die out, though I do think streaming will continue to become more popular.

whackman
8/2/2021 04:03:09 pm

Unless HBO Go includes HB cartoons like Jellystone to stream for example then I for one don't care much for it. They are certain streaming sites which I do not wish to subscribe to and one of them is netflix since I consider most of their shows to be trash and I have a very low opinion about netflix. (which is why pirate their content instead since I don't like the thought of me being a member I mainly pirate their content to see how bad their shows are you see.) Besides I have no desire to subscribe to every streaming site under the sun, I actually think they are too MANY streaming sites out there,

Reply
WildwindVampire link
8/2/2021 04:21:15 pm

I definitely respect your opinion but I am glad that there are streaming services out there for anyone who wants them. I'm also not a "subscribe to every streaming site under the sun" person either, though it's nice to have the content out there for people that want it. No one's being forced to subscribe to streaming services, so you can just ignore the ones you don't like.

The only downside of I can see of streaming is that more and more shows are being put on streaming, and if you can't afford it or it isn't available in your area, then you're out of luck. In that sense, it's a bit of a downgrade from cable TV which you could previously just subscribe to and watch any show you wanted all in one place. In that sense, I can see where you're coming from that it can be irritating that there's less access to shows, when they're being divided up among different streaming services that you have to subscribe to in order to watch.

That's really interesting. I'm thinking the Chill Out DVD was reprinted multiple times and this was reprinted along with it (and they updated the number of volumes on the packaging)? Chill Out came out in 2007 whereas Volume 2 of Get a Clue came out in 2008, so Chill Out must have been reprinted at some point given the disc name was still "Chill Out."

The cop

Yeah but my version which is the regular DVD case says volumes 1 and 2 coming soon

WildwindVampire link
8/5/2021 10:57:44 am

Is it possible only some of the DVD case ones advertise just volume 1, and the rest advertise both volumes 1 and 2? It's surprising they'd make so many different versions of the same DVD.

Eh, the fact that there's no monster in a scooby doo film is really unattractive.

That's totally fair. The meta-ness of that special and the plot about Scooby quitting the gang piqued my interest.

Alien invaders was just so plain. Stage Fright is an easy top 3. The amount of phantoms, the culprits and everything. Dewey is one of my favourite side characters in all of Scooby Doo too. I enjoy the songs, the chases and everything in it. The Live action ones are trash and the puppets was just a no no.

WildwindVampire link

I was also surprised to see how low you put the 80s films and Alien Invaders. I can't say I really agree that Alien Invaders was plain. I personally love the tone of that film (though it is a tiny bit of a step down from Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost, but it's still great IMO).

Becker
8/8/2021 02:54:03 am

I'd say I slightly prefer Alien Invaders over Witch's Ghost. Alien Invaders is a movie that keeps growing and growing on you with time, at one point it was my least favorite of the revival quadrilogy of DTVs, now it's my second favorite of those.

WildwindVampire link
8/8/2021 03:56:15 pm

Interesting, I feel like Witch's Ghost has more of an allure between the incredible villains, the introduction of the Hex Girls, and the beautiful backgrounds. The tone also seems a little darker in Witch's Ghost than Alien Invaders, which I like.

Becker
8/8/2021 04:54:07 pm

I think Alien Invaders is a bit more engaging, it almost has a spell-like vibe. While I love a dark tone, that doesn't necessarily make a certain movie better than another one. The tone of Alien Invaders works prefectly for what they're going for. And I've said it before that I don't think the Hex Girls are as great as they're made out to be, Thorn seems to be the only one the writers care to make an all-rounded interesting character most of the time.

WildwindVampire link
8/8/2021 04:12:19 pm

It has gone down a little bit. I don't mind Scooby-Doo 2002 personally lol. I guess the more I thought about it, the more I felt like it was kind of an average Scooby-Doo movie with nothing all that special about it. I liked Thundarr's inclusion at first, but I think part of my opinion on his inclusion has soured now that we've found out that they're going to be putting out a million more crossovers, which I was kind of hoping they'd dial it back a little now that they had a whole series about crossovers. (Not to say I'm not looking forward to the Courage or Krypto crossovers, but it's gotten to be a bit much IMO). I like Maxwell Atoms' writing quite a bit, but the more I thought about it after the initial excitement of my review, I felt like Happy Halloween was a bit better.

@Jayden I love Daphne & Velma lol. I know probably no other fan would put it that high, but it was just such a feel good, fun movie and I really enjoyed it. It just seems like harmless fun to me and it was well written IMO, so I've never quite understood why it's so hated other than the fact that it's different. I did enjoy Stage Fright, WrestleMania Mystery and FrankenCreepy quite a bit, I would just say I enjoyed the other movies above it a little more. That's funny about us both putting Shaggy's Showdown at #11! I hadn't noticed that haha.

I for one would like to see a Scooby episode, without a monster in it for change. I find the forumla "it was just a person disguised as a monster" to be worked to death in all honesty for scooby I am getting rather bored with this approach and I think the writers should try something fresh for a change.

Scooby and the gang clearly have detective skills right so why not remove the now boring concept "it was just a person disguised as a monster" and go for something different like let's say they going up against real criminals not people disguised as monsters or maybe they could uncover a spy conspiracy bent on taking over the world or something like that.

That could make for an interesting show concept! They sort of did this with the Scrappy shorts and to an extent, a few episodes of the New Scooby-Doo Mysteries ("The Dooby Dooby Doo Ado" being the most prominent example), but it could be entertaining to have that as a full 22-minute show.

I agree with Wildwind. I was gonna say they already kinda did all that stuff you're talking about in both Get a Clue and the Scrappy shorts. And we all know how they turned out. They're the most hated shows in the Scooby franchise.
I'm not saying you can't do these types of concepts and premises with Scooby-Doo right, I'm just saying it's hard to do it right. It's not as simple of a departure as one might think. The best we've gotten are those few spy related criminal centric episodes in TNSDMy.

Agreed, I think people are so accustomed to the monster plots that they tend to look less favorably upon the ones without monsters, like Get a Clue and the Scrappy shorts (though the latter of those just suffered from poor writing). Like Becker mentioned, I think you can do these types of concepts in Scooby, but it's really hard because of how associated the franchise is with solving monster mysteries.

whackman
8/6/2021 03:52:41 pm

But it doesn't have to be you know, I mean the gang are clearly intelligent people who do pose skills. The truth is this cartoon could have gone with a different approch long ago, the fact that they are teenagers hardly matters they are plenty of shows and movies which do depict teenagers going up against real life threats (Totally Spies! cartoon is a good example of this)

This not entirely true people in masks is not always what Scooby is all about, the 13 ghosts had shaggy and scooby going up against real ghosts, the Scrappy-Doo shorts were also different and some of them involved supernatural elments as did movies like the Ghoul School, and the Reluctant Werewolf, Get a Clue! also did not involve people in masks.

also a episode of mystery incorporated showed that Velma, was clearly disappointed that all the villans they caught were simply people in masks. I think I can understand how Velma feelt about that, I mean in real life if all the villans I caught turned to be people in masks again and again well then I think i would be rather disappointed by this happening all the time. And that the stakes were not high enough like they were in mystery incorporated which greatly did involve the supernatural for a change.

I really don't think there was anything wrong about the idea about shaggy and scooby, going up against a villian like they did in get clue I just think the execution was done rather poorly. for one thing I regret it not being more serious and and that the gang was cut out from it, I think it should it should have involved the whole gang working together trying to take down the villian. I know the odds are slime but I for one hope that the scooby/courage movie does involve supernatural forces.

I for one embrace changes not all changes turn out for the best, but I think they woth giving a chance now and then I am quite happy how the new HB cartoon Jellystone turned out it's great to see many long forgotten HB characters again after a long time.

I'm personally loving Jellystone as well! It was so much fun seeing all the characters again, and the random, quirky comedy style is exactly the type of humor I like.

I really enjoy when Scooby has real supernatural elements in it, though I wouldn't necessarily say I enjoy it any more or less than the man in a mask formula. Unfortunately it seems like WB is straying away from the supernatural element recently, but it would be cool if they did use it in the Scooby/Courage crossover.

Reply
Becker
8/8/2021 03:28:19 am

Jellystone is called "Chowder with HB characters" by fans. And you can see why, they're both created by the same guy, and have the same type of humor and episodic plots. I don't know if you've seen Chowder, but you'll definitely enjoy it if you like Jellystone.

The strange thing is that supernatural is, imo, not even straying away from regular Scooby that much. I mean, a lot of quintessential Scooby productions in people's eyes, like Zombie Island, SDMI, Boo Brothers etc, have real monsters. Most people won't complain if you put a real monster in a movie or show, because it's kinda an accepted and expected part of the franchise to have something like that once in a while.

Amber noel
8/8/2021 02:41:04 pm

I don't think they have strayed from real monsters entirely because their was a real monster in SCOOB in scooby doo and guess who the funky phantom and man bat were real I feel like people are over exaggurating a bit.

WildwindVampire link
8/8/2021 04:04:49 pm

I've never watched Chowder (though I think you were asking Whackman), though I love Jellystone's humor style, so I'll have to check it out.

I think it's a valid opinion to not enjoy the supernatural, even though I would agree it doesn't stray away from the man-in-a-mask formula that much.

@Amber I think they've mainly strayed from real monsters in the main line of DTV films, though like you said they're still including the occasional real monster like in SCOOB.

Becker
8/8/2021 05:02:43 pm

@Amber, exactly, whenever people say WB refuses to use real monsters in Scooby-Doo anymore, I can only think they forgot Scoob – the first (sort of) theatrical animated Scooby film – was a thing literally last year. And you also got Scoobynatural, the crossover with Supernatural, from just 3 years ago. I mean, c'mon.

WildwindVampire link
8/9/2021 10:56:20 am

Totally agreed with both of you and apologies if my comment sounded like I was implying that WB is refusing to use real monsters, because that's not what I was trying to say. WB seems to be straying away in the main DTV line, but in some of the other misc films and specials like SCOOB! and Scoobynatural, there's definitely still real supernatural villains in the franchise as of recently.

I think the perception that WB refuses to put real monsters in anything now comes from that interview with Tim Sheridan where he mentions WB not wanting to make the 13 ghosts real. WB still seems to be following that for the main DTV, but I think people have taken that comment a little out of context and just attributed it to everything, forgetting about Scoobynatural and SCOOB!.

Becker
8/8/2021 03:13:08 am

The thing is 13 Ghosts is still about monsters and ghosts, which is what Scooby is about, be it real or fake, in my opinion. So a show like that isn't that big of departure from regular Scooby-Doo. However, if you try to make a movie like Se7en or Zodiac with Scooby-Doo, or a Totally Spies with Scooby, then that's quite a bit of a different story haha. Not saying it would be bad, it could be good if done right, but the fan reception might not be so nice.

Given some fans are freaking out just about the animation of Be Cool "ruining their childhood," I think doing a show that completely departed from monsters would likely be met with a lot of skepticism and backlash from the fandom.

But people asscosiate fake monsters with scooby doo because that what most of the franchise is yes they have had real monsters but not as much as fake ones and I think it's better that way because I think if they do real monsters all the time I feel like the franchise is going is loose a bit of what made scooby well scooby doo for me and just because the monsters are fake doesn't mean they can't do anything unique with it.

That being said I'm not against change but they can't make the changes drastic and they can't do them all the time/ too much people hated shaggy and scooby doo get a clue because the change was too drastic (and also because it was poorly written) heck people are already complaining about the upcoming velma series because they made some drastic changes I think what they should do is add to the formula and not take the formula out and replace it with something else which I think SASGAC failed to realise and it's not like the franchise hasn't done anything unique for example zombie island for it's dark tone, the scooby and scrappy doo shorts was the first time to have real monsters, APNSD gave scooby doo a wackier tone, scooby doo where's my mummy was the first time to have a gang member as the culprit gobiln king was very creative, stage fright the first time to have multiple culprits, kiss crossover one of the most insane scooby doo movie I've seen, mystery incorperated, velma series and I think theirs more but yeah scooby doo have done some unique things even if they are small things there still unique to the franchise.

I think you're exactly right that "drastic changes" should only be for a single show rather than completely changing the direction of the franchise forever, as it allows for experimentation, but also allows people to just skip that show and wait for the next if they really hate the creative changes. I also wouldn't want real monsters all the time, unless it was just for a series (like 13 Ghosts). Part of the charm of the franchise is the person-in-a-mask formula IMO.

Glad to see some appreciation for Goblin King! It seems like a lot of people dislike it, but I also consider it to be one of my top 10 Scooby movies. The fantastical/magical/supernatural elements of it are done so well!

Those Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries books still refer to Fred as Fred Jones, Jr.

That's really odd. I need to catch up on those comics.

There are definitely people that own it, but it's extremely rare and difficult to get.
