Laff-A-Lympics was actually based upon a reality TV show, Battle of the Network Stars, which aired on ABC beginning in 1976, and featured a similar format of all the most famous main characters (in this case, being portrayed by real actors and actresses) battling for first place each episode. In this show, however, the teams were divided by network, ABC, NBC and CBS. Though the show originally ended its run in 1988, it was recently revived for an eight episode miniseries which aired from June-September 2017. Coincidentally, in the revival miniseries, Vivica A. Fox (who voiced Cassidy Williams in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated) was one of the contestants on the winning team.
