In a new interview with the writer of Daphne & Velma novels, Morgan Baden, it's been revealed that the Daphne & Velma series of young adult novels is a trilogy, which will end after the third novel set to be released in June. The interview also revealed that the third novel will be titled "Buried Secrets."
Though the first book was written by Josephine Ruby, a pseudonym, it's sort of hinted that this was Morgan Baden as well in the interview. Morgan also shares the summary for book 3: "In Buried Secrets, a television show based on the mysteries of Crystal Cove is being filmed in town, and of course Daphne and Velma are involved with it…and of course, some mysterious things happen. We really heightened the stakes in this book in significant ways, thanks to your suggestions, Beth! People get hurt…and someone even gets murdered. So Daphne and Velma, with help from Shaggy and Fred, have a really big case on their hands." One thing worth noting from this interview is that it says the book will be released in July, despite that news just broke out yesterday that the release date will be June 1, 2021. I believe that the article saying it will be released in July is a typo, because even the hyperlink right before the mention of July links to sources that say June 1 is the release date. Thanks so much to Gibby Norton to bringing this interview to my attention! You can check out the interview in its entirety here.

Booo... wish they were continuing... though they might sell better if they weren't $10 a pop for young adult books...

I wish they were continuing too. Though $10 a book is pretty typical now days for children's books, I think.

Fair I guess... still seems high for something I can read in an hour... and no offense, but I can buy a full paperback for that price. Also don't think I ever saw them in stores... 1/20/2021 11:17:58 pm
Yeah, that's a fair point. I don't think the second one ever got to stores...I think it was a mostly digital release due to the pandemic delaying printing. For the first one, it for sure was released to bookstores, but it released on March 3 which was like a week or so before all the pandemic closures started happening, so I think that likely meant less copies were produced.

You raise some good points, and that is also why I honestly doubt this was meant as a "trilogy" my guess that that was either what the initial contract was for, or this is just when the steam ran out, but it would also depend how well these actually sold. Mainly just saying if these had sold well...we'd be getting more than 3.

I totally agree with that. I think the pandemic unfortunately affected these quite a bit, because it required anyone who wanted it to buy it digitally, which not everyone likes.

I'd agree there, with the pandemic affecting my finances, I have them on my wishlist but never been monetarily secure enough to afford the price they want for em... I don't mind digital but not been paying attention to the price to see if there's been any sales.

I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat. I don't think I even got to the first one until about a month after its release.

Sad to see them ending so soon. Who else grew up on James Gelsey’s picture and chapter books? I LOVED THOSE and wish we had those these days. I guess the You Choose Scooby-Doo stories sufficed and were neat but since this is ending I truly hope we get a new series/lot of chapter books with images and all that.

I wifh we had the Scooby Doo Misteri a 4 Zampe Italian books translated into English, the originals written by Cristina Brambilla and not the ones already written by James Gelsey that have been translated into Italian. 1/21/2021 01:58:49 pm
I'm not familiar with those. Were those Scooby young adult novels too?
