After a very long delay, we finally have some news on Daphne & Velma book 3, which is the final book of the series. We'd previously gotten some very vague details about the plot from an interview with the author back in January 2021, as well as a generic plot from Amazon in February 2021. However, a much more detailed description of the final book has now finally been posted on Amazon. This book seems like it will be a lot darker than the previous two, with arson and murder being a part of the novel's plot (the author had previously confirmed that someone will be murdered in the final book). Here's the summary: There's big news in the town of Crystal Cove: A TV show based on the town's mysterious past is filming in the Haunted Village. Many of the hottest teen TV stars are on set. Daphne is excited; she's been hired as a writer's assistant on the show. Meanwhile, Velma is less than thrilled about all the Hollywood types milling around her parents' property But before the shoot begins, Daphne's mom - a producer on the show - starts receiving threatening letters. Next, the sabotage begins. And then, when the showrunner reveals that he's discovered a long-buried secret about the town's past, sabotage turns to theft, then to arson, and eventually to murder. Daphne and Velma know that digging up the past can be dangerous . . . especially when some families in town have profited from the past for so long. Can they uncover who's behind all this murder and mayhem . . . and discover what secret from the past they're protecting? Unfortunately, no release date has been announced for the book yet. Following the release of the second book in July 2020, the third book was originally scheduled for release on February 2, 2021. It was later postponed for an unknown reason until June 1, 2021. When June 1 came around, the book was postponed again for an unspecified amount of time. From a Twitter conversation I had back in June 2021 with the author, Morgan Baden, it sounds like it has nothing to do with delays in the writing, and is something on Scholastic's end with the production. I forgot to mention it in my "hopes for 2022" post, but this is something I really hope comes out this year. We've been waiting since 2020 for the last book, and especially given it's the final one, I'm super excited to read it! And besides, it may be our last chance to up the franchise's "official bougie count," which currently stands at one, after Velma says for the first time in the franchise in book 2 lol.

It’s quite weird to see murder involved within Scooby-Doo. I suppose they were waiting to do something this big for a finale. I do now see why Scooby doesn’t talk in this series. (WB doesn’t want their child IP involved that much with scary stuff or adult content. Which is one reason why he isn’t in Velma. Just cuz WB wants Scooby to strictly stay 7 and under. You could probably tell from the fact of the retcons in recent Scooby movies, as well more kid friendly tones) but I will be reading nonetheless

I was really surprised they're incorporating murder into the book as well. I agree with you that they're probably just doing it for a "big finale," and because they feel like they can, since it's a book series targeted at teenagers/young adults. I'm still excited to read the last book even if it will be a little weird to have murder involved. I really enjoyed the first two.

This was a nice series. It was nice seeing a different take in the 2 female characters on their own. It still kinda made me wish that the Daphne and Velma movie gotten a sequel.

Glad to meet a fellow Daphne & Velma fan! Everyone either seemed to hate the villain or didn't watch it to give it the chance, but I thought it was really good. I've enjoyed this book series a lot too. It's a fun take on the series and it's interesting to see the gang with different characterization. I've been really excited for the third book, so I hope we get it soon! We've been waiting since 2020!
