This past week, the annual Annecy Festival has been taking place in France. Each year, the festival hosts a wide variety of presentations for new animated shows. A few new tidbits about Yokoso Scooby-Doo were shared during Warner Brothers' portion of the presentation.
The series will include "all sorts of monsters" inspired by Japanese culture. According to Cartoon Brew, the show will involve "monsters being caught in balls" similarly to Pokémon, which was animated by the same studio (OLM) as Yokoso will be. Senior Vice President Jay Bastian also assured fans that Scooby's design was changed very little. “We didn’t really change the design that much. You don’t really mess around with perfection,” Bastian said. Thanks to scooby dooby dooooooo for sharing the Cartoon Brew article!

Variety has just broken the news that a brand new Scooby-Doo anime series, Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, is coming to Tubi in North America, and will air on Cartoon Network internationally. The series was previously announced in 2024 as Go-Go Mystery Machine, but has been renamed. The characters Etsuko and Toshiro in the original series description have been changed to Yume and Takumi, respectively. Yokoso translates to "Welcome" in English. No info on release date has been provided yet.
The series will feature Scooby and Shaggy as the main characters. It is unknown to what extent Fred, Daphne and Velma will be in the series, if at all. Scooby and Shaggy will be voiced by their normal voice actors, Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard. The show is directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, and co-produced by Francisco Paredes. OLM (an animation studio in Japan) will be responsible for the series' production alongside Warner Brothers Animation. Warner Animation president Sam Register provided this statement to Variety about the upcoming series: “We’re excited to partner on this next chapter as we push the Scooby-Doo franchise forward with its first-ever original anime series. Alongside the amazing artists at OLM, we’ll unmask a new batch of mysteries, signature hijinks, and – of course – plenty of Scooby Snacks, all brought to life through the dynamic artistry of anime.” Some very exciting news was announced today at the Annecy Festival in France! A brand new Scooby-Doo series, titled Go-Go Mystery Machine, will be our next animated Scooby-Doo series. The series will be our first Scooby-Doo anime, and features Shaggy and Scooby accidentally releasing hundreds of mythical monsters while visiting Japan on a food adventure. The series will also feature Scooby's uncle Daisuke-Doo, gadget wiz Toshiro, and their magical friend Etsuko. The Variety article that made the announcement did not mention a release date for the series. It's also worth noting that Fred, Daphne and Velma are not on the series poster.
Series vice president of Warner Brothers Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, Stacy Kim, said this about the series at the Annecy Festival: “We have seen a lot of iterations of ‘Scooby’ over the years, but nothing quite like this one. This is ‘Scooby’ does anime." |
