Update 7/10: ActorsAccess has confirmed that Jona Xiao will appear in every episode as a recurring guest star.
I also have an additional update that should have been published a month ago lol. There's been a weird cache issue with the site editor, where I'll try to update a post, but it will be saved as a draft instead of publishing the changes. This next paragraph was meant to be published on June 12, but I just noticed that was still saved as a draft. Velmsters astutely pointed out that the behind the scenes images I shared a month ago also feature two more references on signs! There is a Knittingham Puppy Farm sign on the third slide, and a Magnus County Realty sign (C.L. Magnus from "Go Away Ghost Ship") on the eighth slide of this behind the scenes Instagram post! Kudos to them for the great eye! Deadline has shared another exciting announcement on the heels of the big Scooby reveal from Monday! Fifteen brand new cast members have been announced for the upcoming show. No character details have been announced yet. The show's cast will include:
The ScoobyDooINFCP Instagram page has shared some behind-the-scenes footage of filming. The shared footage shows we'll be getting a reference to Captain Cutler! You can also check out additional behind the scenes pics via Scooby-Doo Brazil's Instagram. Thanks Velmsters for the links!

Update 6/9/26: TV producer Ted Biaselli has confirmed that Scooby will talk in response to a fan's comment on Instagram.
Netflix has shared a couple pieces of exciting news about the upcoming live-action series, Scooby-Doo: Origins. The official Scooby-Doo Netflix page shared a teaser clip showing Scooby will be a real puppy. You can check out this teaser featuring Shaggy (Tanner Hagen) and Scooby-Doo here. The post caption also revealed another highly anticipated piece of info: the release year! Netflix has officially confirmed the show will be coming in 2027. No specific release date has been announced yet. A few days ago, Young Actors Magazine's Instagram shared a casting call for Scooby-Doo: Origins, which is currently in progress of filming. Hylton Casting are currently searching for background actors between 18-29 years old to play campers. ProjectCasting shares that they are also looking for male photo doubles, stand-ins and a street band. The show is being filmed at the camp Talbot Pines in Rutledge, GA from April-September 2026. It seems "Talbot Pines" is the codename for this series. The casting call refers to the series as this, and some research shows no other info about Talbot Pines beyond casting calls. Thanks to Scoobsies for linking this casting call!
There are a couple other small tidbits about the live-action show that have surfaced this week. Mckenna Grace posted a TikTok of her and the other main actors attending a Renaissance Fair. It is unclear if this is a part of the show, or merely them hanging out, but I assume it's the latter. The TikTok video also includes Maxwell Simkins, which may mean he is involved in the series. No official confirmation of this yet, though. Mckenna has also shared a few times on Letterboxd that they are currently filming a number of night shoots for the series! Her reviews also share that during their off time, the cast has been watching horror movies together. Mckenna Grace's hairstylist, Matt Rez, has shared some new photos of Mckenna as Daphne on Instagram! The post shows a "before and after" slideshow of Mckenna going from blonde to redheaded for her upcoming role in Scooby-Doo: Origins. Matt was assisted by Tommy Cotton, Maddi Covelli, and Priscilla Valles according to his Instagram post. While there's no new info to share here, I thought it was cool that we got a behind-the-scenes look into Mckenna's transformation! The Internet/social media was in a very different place in the 2000s with the other two full-gang live action films, so this is the first time we've gotten something like this.
After last week's news of Kampton Kumpe joining the cast as a recurring co-star, three additional actors for the series have been revealed! Through some detective work, I was able to confirm the two actors rumored by IMDb listed on ActorsAccess. Johann Mikael will play a recurring character in the series according to his resumé. IMDb lists he will be playing Wally, which is likely correct since it lines up with his resumé without an official announcement.
Pierce Polomsky will also be a recurring co-star named Hank Diruchio according to IMDb. His resumé on ActorsAccess is private. However, I was able to confirm this info anyway by playing around with different keywords on Google, until the site description for his ActorsAccess profile confirmed the info. ActorsAccess also confirms Ryan Anthony Holcomb will be a series regular. No info about his role has been revealed yet. Our second non-gang cast member for Scooby-Doo: Origins has been announced! On the show's IMDb page, Kamton Kumpe is listed as co-starring as Red Harris (an obvious homage to Red Herring from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo). While IMDb isn't always reliable, his resumé on ActorsAccess confirms that he will indeed be co-starring in the upcoming live-action series. His resumé does not mentioned what character he plays, so there is no official confirmation of IMDb's info about him playing Red.
IDMb also lists two other actors, Pierce Polomsky and Johann Mikaiel, as playing Hank Diruchio and Wally, respectively. No other sources have confirmed the accuracy of this info currently. Thanks to Scraps for the excellent detective work of finding his resumé! This morning, Netflix shared a few exciting news tidbits about the upcoming live-action series! Netflix posted on Instagram that the series will be titled Scooby-Doo: Origins. This title had already been rumored by Production List for the past couple months, but it is now confirmed to be the series' official title.
Netflix also confirmed this morning that production has officially started on the series! Variety shared that filming is happening in Atlanta, and that the series will be a "modern reimagining" of the Scooby-Doo franchise. The Variety article also officially confirms Paul Walter Hauser's role as Scooby-Doo's owner. Alongside this announcement, the first promotional image for the series has been posted. This image reveals that Mckenna has dyed her hair red for her role. Mckenna posted a TikTok with the hair reveal, featuring one of Sarah Michelle Gellar's lines as Daphne from the first Scooby-Doo live-action film. Check out the promotional image above! The cast of the upcoming Netflix live-action series shared several new group photos. These will be the first group photos we've seen of them together, beyond the pic of them out at dinner on casting announcement night. The photos show that Maxwell Jenkins has dyed his hair blond for the role. Mckenna's hair isn't showing in the photo, which may imply she will dye her hair red. Check out the gallery below to see the other three new cast photos. Thanks to Becker and Scooby Snacks for the info that these photos were posted on Reddit. Yesterday, Mckenna Grace was interviewed by TMZ about playing Daphne in the Netflix live-action series. No new info about the show was revealed, but Mckenna did share a few interesting tidbits. In the interview, she shared that she has been talking with Shaggy's voice actor, Matthew Lillard, since getting the role.
Mckenna has also been watching the Scooby-Doo direct to video films as research for her role. She's been reviewing the films on the film tracking site Letterboxd. You can check out her reviews here. In the interview, she shared that Zombie Island and Music of the Vampire are her favorites that she's watched so far. She mentioned that she grew up with the franchise, and that she plans to keep watching direct-to-video films as research. I love that Mckenna has been doing such in-depth research for her role! It's cool to see how excited she is to play Daphne. I love that she's even started checking out Scooby films that Daphne isn't in, including Ghoul School yesterday. Her clear passion about the role makes me feel like she was the perfect choice for Daphne! You can watch Mckenna's TMZ interview on X. Thank you to Scoobylover for sharing this video! Update 3/24: Paul Walter Hauser has officially been cast, according to Deadline. He will be a regular character in the series. This confirms What's on Netflix's previous scoop that he will play Scooby's old owner; however, Deadline's article does not mention that this will be his role. Thanks Becker for the info!
Netflix has given us an extremely exciting update on the upcoming live-action show! Deadline has confirmed that the entire gang has been officially cast. Abby Ryder Fortson will play Velma, Maxwell Jenkins will play Fred, and Shaggy will be played by Tanner Hagen. Along with the casting announcement, a new description for the series has been shared: During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets. While this bit hasn't been officially confirmed, an insider source has reported to What's on Netflix that Paul Walter Hauser has also been cast as Scooby's old owner. The series is rumored to begin filming next month in Atlanta, and will wrap on September 10, 2026. The working title for the series is reported as Scooby-Doo: Origins. However, working titles often change, so the title will likely be different when the series is actually released. All of the info from What's on Netflix comes from an undisclosed "insider," so take all the info in this paragraph with a grain of salt. Variety also revealed that Toby Haynes has signed on as executive producer, and will direct the series premiere. ProductionList confirms that filming begins April 27! (Thanks to Becker for finding this info) On her Instagram, Mckenna Grace posted a story showing us that the whole group has already begun working together. Check out the photo below: |
