You may have heard the sad news earlier in the week that Andre Braugher passed away. Tony Cervone posted a commemoration of Andre on his Instagram page, revealing that Andre voiced Chef Dave in the Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Andre passed away at 61 due to lung cancer. Tony shared the following message about Andre on Instagram:
Andre Braugher played our beloved Chef Dave in “SCOOB Holiday Haunt”. When we met he asked us to tell him a little bit about our movie and ourselves. After ten minutes he said, “I’ve always had a soft spot for Scooby-Doo, I’m in.” We were so happy he was. He was an extremely talented, kind, funny gentleman who performed his role as a cartoon chef with the same dignity he would Shakespeare. We were lucky to spend time with him. I am truly sorry his work went the way of a tax write off. Scoob! director Michael Kurinsky also made a post on his Instagram in remembrance of Andre. I had the good fortune to be able to work with the great Andre Brauer on SCOOB Holiday Haunt. He masterfully played the character of Chef Dave, taking the role as serious as if we were doing Shakespeare. He will be missed. Tony and Michael also shared a few images of Andre's character from the movie. RIP to Andre! Some sad news today that the voice of Velma, Kate Micucci, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Kate shared on TikTok that she was recently hospitalized, and underwent surgery to remove the cancer. Thankfully, the doctors were able to catch the lung cancer early and were able to remove the cancerous matter from her body. Kate noted in the video that she is currently recovering from the surgery, and hopes to be out of the hospital within a few weeks. Here's hoping that Kate has a speedy recovery!
Although many fans expected to have Scooby-Doo and Krypto, Too! added to Max for the annual Scoobtober celebration, the film was not made available on the streaming service. However, Max just announced they will be adding Krypto Too to the service before the end of the year. According to WB's press release, Krypto Too will be added to Max on Christmas Day (December 25).
However, it's unfortunately not all good news, as Max has also announced they will be removing four Scooby-Doo films from the service. Scooby-Doo (2002), Daphne & Velma, Scooby-Doo! Sword and the Scoob and Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog will all be taken off of Max on December 31, 2023 according to ScreenRant. Last month, we had a cryptic announcement that a "special episode" of Velma is coming from the LinkedIn page of a storyboard artist. Not many details were provided at the time, but now, a listing revealing more information about the special has popped up on the Entertainment Identifier Registry. According to EIDR, we will be getting a Velma Halloween special. The listing was entered into the database on October 25, 2023. The special will air sometime in 2024, presumably around October for Halloween.
It is unclear if the Halloween special is a part of season 2, or if it's a separate episode that isn't a part of any season. According to character designer Dinah Kalaha's resumé, character designing for season 2 began in November 2022 and just wrapped up in October 2023. This confirms that a season 2 was planned before the show had aired. Courtesy of GamesRadar+, we have the solicitations for the two Scooby-Doo comics coming out in February 2024! "We have a fantastic Halloween episode, where the family dresses up in Scooby-Doo outfits and ends up discovering that Stan is missing. And so, as the Scooby-Doo gang, they try to find him. Klaus is Scooby and Jeff is Shaggy and Steve is Velma. They look so good and we did wonderful music that sounds so much like the Scooby-Doo score. We recorded it in mono.
