Amazon has just announced that the upcoming live-action feature "Daphne and Velma" will be released this May! The direct-to-DVD production will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. The film will be 72 minutes long. Here's the Amazon listing for the DVD and Blu-Ray release.
No other information on the DVD/Blu-Ray or film is currently available. In case you missed the previous post about it, here is the description of the film:
Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.
I'm really excited to see how this film turns out, and how will present the two main female characters of the show in a potentially new and different light than we've seen before. Here's hoping for a great movie!
Amazon has just announced the release of an upcoming Scooby-Doo DVD on their website. The DVD is currently titled "Scooby-Doo! Sports," but I'm sure this is tentative. It is currently scheduled for release on June 5, 2018. This set will be only a single disc, and the total running time will be 260 minutes. It is currently unknown what episodes will be on the set. No other information is available at this time, but stay tuned for more info!
According to a listing on Amazon, a new compilation DVD set entitled "Scooby-Doo and the Movie Monsters" will be released on February 6, 2018. The set will include a total of 3 episodes including "Never Ape an Ape Man" and "Nowhere to Hyde" from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, in addition to "That's Monstertainment" from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. Though Amazon doesn't yet have an image of the DVD cover, I did a bit of researching and found the DVD cover (pictured above) on Barnes and Noble.com. Here is the back cover description from Amazon:
Cinema creatures give Scooby-Doo an attack of monster mania! In Never Ape an Ape Man, Daphne's film producer uncle hires the gang as extras on the set of his latest picture. Then, Scooby and the gang get sucked into the television by Zomba, the ghoulish TV show hostess in That's Monstertainment. And on their way home from the Malt Shop, the gang encounters a jewel thief with Nowhere to Hyde. Now they must help solve the case before the thief turns into a mad scientist. Bwahahahaha! Grab some popcorn and watch some scary film fun with Scooby-Doo!
Thanks to Amazon, we now have further details on the DVD back cover art, which includes the running time of the movie and bonus features. The movie will be 75 minutes long (an updated running time from Amazon's original information, which listed 72 minutes) and the only bonus features will be the two episodes of The New Scooby-Doo Movies which Batman guest starred in ("The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair" and "The Caped Crusader Caper"). The movie is also now up for pre-order on Amazon.
Here's the description for the movie, taken from the back cover:
When Scooby-Doo and the gang run into notorious crooks that are too hot to handle, the caped crusader himself, Batman swings in to save the day! After an unsolved case from Batman’s past comes back to haunt him, and the mysterious Crimson Cloak threatens to take over Gotham, Batman recruits Mystery Inc. to help crack the case. Will their teamwork be enough to solve the mystery and foil the plans of the most dangerous rogue villains the world has ever known? Pack your utility belts with gadgets and Scooby Snacks to find out, as you takeoff for a wild crime-busting thrill ride of a caper!
Original Post Date: 10/30/2017
Though it looks like we won't be getting 3 Scooby animated movies this year as Turner Classic Movies originally promised, we'll have a new Scooby movie to look forward almost right out of the gate at the beginning of 2018. According to IGN, a brand new DTV movie, Scooby-Doo & Batman: The Brave and the Bold will be released on January 9, 2018 on DVD and digitally. This movie will feature the same version of Batman which we saw in the 2011 episode of Cartoon Network's Batman: The Brave and the Bold which was entitled "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases."
The movie will feature an all-star cast which includes: Frank Welker as Fred and Scooby-Doo, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Grey Griffin as Daphne and Black Canary, Diedrich Baker as Batman, and Kate Micucci as Velma. The guest cast will include a huge lineup of famous voice actors, which are Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Fred Tatasciore as Harvey Bullock, Nika Futterman as Catwoman, Nicholas Guest as Martian Manhunter, Tom Kenny as Penguin and Plastic Man, Jeff Bennett as The Joker, John Dimaggio as Aquaman, Jeffrey Combs as The Question, John Michael Higgins as The Riddler, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Detective Chimp. Crew members who were involved with the film include director Jake Castorena, teleplay by Paul Giacoppo, producer Michael Jelenic, supervising producer James Tucker, along with Sam Register, Michael Uslan and Benjamin Melniker as executive producers.
Here's the sypnosis (presumably from the movie's back cover) according to IGN:
Super sleuths Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma join forces with the world's greatest detective, Batman, when they discover that villains from both of their respective rogues' galleries have also combined efforts to terrorize the city. With Scooby Snacks in tow, the crime-fighting teams encounter classic Batman foes (Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn) and allies (The Question, Aquaman, Plastic Man, Martian Manhunter) along with a bevy of fiends from Scooby-Doo lore (Spooky Space Kook, Miner 49er, Ghost Clown). As always, you won't know who the ultimate villain is until those "meddling kids" pull off the mask!
This seems to be an effort by WB to create a movie based on the Scooby-Doo! Team Up comic series, and speculatively a possible testing ground for the next Scooby-Doo series, which if you remember is possibly titled "Scooby-Doo! Guess Who?" (alluding to the possible "New Scooby-Doo Movies"-esque revival tone).
Update 11/3/2017: Amazon now created a listing for this movie, which reveals that the movie will be 72 minutes in length, and include the two previous Scooby-Doo and Batman crossovers from The New Scooby-Doo Movies, entitled "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair" and "The Caped Crusader Caper." Additionally, Amazon provides an alternate summary for the movie which is more descriptive and gives us the name of the main villain for the movie.
According to Amazon.com, the long awaited Season 1, Part 2 DVD will now be released on January 16, 2018. According to Amazon, a special double feature edition of the LEGO Scooby-Doo films will be released next Tuesday, October 10. The set will include both feature-length films to date, which are "LEGO Scooby-Doo! Haunted Hollywood" and this year's "LEGO Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash." Special features will include two of the original Blowout Beach Bash DVD's bonus episodes, "Go Away Ghost Ship" from the original series, "Scooby-Doo! Where Are You" as well as "Party Like It's 1899" from the most recent series, "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!"
Some of you may remember that VideoETA, a DVD and Blu-Ray announcement site, had months ago originally listed the Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! Season 1, Part 2 set for release on March 28, 2017. In early March, VideoETA removed the March 28th date from their site, listing an updated December 12th release date for the set. It seems the DVD set has been delayed once again, as VideoETA has now completely deleted the original listing from their site. At one point, Amazon also listed "2017" as the set's release date on their site, which has now been removed and replaced with a "Currently unavailable: We don't know when or if this item will be in stock" message. It is unknown why the set was delayed once again, however, one possible reason is that WB wants to promote the show only on the Boomerang app and VOD service, rather than having the show available on multiple platforms for people to watch.
After a lot of small intermittent tidbits of information regarding the movie and its DVD release, we finally have the full details on the movie thanks to Amazon.com. The movie will be 77 minutes long and will feature three bonus cartoons on both the DVD and Blu-Ray, which are "Go Away Ghost Ship," "A Clue For Scooby-Doo" and "Party Like It's 1899." In addition, the description is as follows:
Join the Mystery Inc. gang for some wet 'n' wild good times in this all-new LEGO story. The annual Blowout Beach Bash promises 3 fun-filled days of games, dancing and - most importantly for Scooby and Shaggy - food! Even surrounded by sun and sand, the gang quickly learns that nothing spoils a vacation quicker than ghost pirates! It will take the teamwork of Scooby-Doo and the gang, along with their newfound friends, if they hope to foil these spooky swashbucklers and save the beach bash. So chill out, take in the good vibes, and get ready for some mystery-solving fun in the sun with Scooby-Doo!
The DVD and Blu-Ray will be released on July 25, and the movie will be released digitally on Amazon, iTunes and cable TV on demand providers two weeks earlier, on July 11. However, there is still no word on when the movie will premiere on Cartoon Network, though we can probably expect it to be a while as the previous movie, Shaggy's Showdown has not premiered yet either.
According to Walmart.com, the next LEGO Scooby-Doo movie, Blowout Beach Bash, will be released on Tuesday, July 25. In addition, Amazon lists that the digital release date will once again be two weeks prior, on July 11. You can already pre-order the movie at both the links provided above. Nothing else about the DVD is known at the moment, though I imagine we will soon be finding out what the special features and/or bonus episodes will be.
Though this is unrelated, since this is such a short post and it doesn't really warrant it's own post, according to Variety Insight, S.C.O.O.B. is now simply being referred to as "Untitled Animated Scooby-Doo Film," meaning that S.C.O.O.B. will no longer be the title for this film. It's also probably safe to presume the reason for the release date delay is due to the film either being partially or completely retooled.
