 Over 5 years after his death, the lawsuit surrounding Casey Kasem (the original voice actor of Shaggy for 40 years) and his death has finally been settled.
In case you missed it, Kasem's children filed a lawsuit against his wife Jean for elder neglect of Casey, after she refused to let his children see him in his final months. Jean Kasem was Casey's second wife, and Kasem's children were not biologically hers. Jean Kasem and Kasem's children from his first marriage often fought, sometimes even in public settings, and Jean admitted to never liking the children. Unfortunately, the lawsuit did not end well. Jean denied all allegations of elder abuse and claimed that Kasem's children were just greedy. In the end, she countersued them for misrepresentation and public defamation of her image, claiming Kasem's children only wanted his inheritance. In the end, Jean Kasem won the lawsuit and her children were forced to pay Jean a settlement for the alleged defamation of her image.  In the Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! episode "Night of the Upsetting Shorts," the gang visits Shaggy's grandma in Florida during a hurricane. Due to incredibly poor timing, Boomerang Australia first premiered this episode on September 9, 2017, during the same weekend that Hurricane Irma devastated Florida.
