Wrenchfield's design from "The Vampire Strikes Back" (What's New Scooby-Doo?) is strikingly similar to a character from another Hanna-Barbera show, The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The character, Creech, appeared in the episode "Strange Experiments." (Apologies for the lower quality of the first picture, but I was not able to find a better one)
Thanks to Scoobyfan4ever for coming up with this week's fun fact!

After The Scooby-Doo Show's lean offerings, surprisingly, most of The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show from 1979 was released on VHS! Only five out of 16 episodes did not receive a VHS release. This is thanks to four Scooby and Scrappy-Doo volumes that were released in the early 1980s, which surprisingly were the first-ever VHS releases in the franchise.
Here are the final results for last week's polls: What is your favorite episode of The Scooby-Doo Show released on VHS? Vampire Bats and Scaredy Cats - 17 The Headless Horseman of Halloween - 11 The No-Faced Zombie Chase Case - 6 The Diabolical Disc Demon - 5 High Rise Hair Raiser - 3 Watt a Shocking Ghost - 2 Scared a Lot in Camelot - 2 The Fiesta Host Is an Aztec Ghost - 1 A Scary Night with a Snow Beast Fright - 1 To Switch a Witch - 1 The Tar Monster - 1 What is your favorite Laff a Lympics episode released on VHS? France and Australia - 7 Acapulco and England - 6 India and Israel - 6 Grand Canyon and Ireland - 5 Quebec and Baghdad - 3 Italy and Kitty Hawk - 3 North Pole and Tahiti - 2 Africa and San Francisco - 0 DisTrackers has shared on their Twitter account that some brand new Funko Pops will be available for pre-order today. The two Funko Pops will feature Shaggy and Scooby eating popcorn and wearing 3-D glasses. While there's no pre-order link yet, the link will be available on the official Funko site later today. Thanks to Juan for the info!
Right after the news about the Jada Toys figures, we have some more Scooby merch coming out! BoxLunch is currently accepting pre-orders for "Meltz Blind Bag Figures," which appear to be popsicle-stick style figures. Scooby, Shaggy, Captain Cutler, Charlie the Robot, the Ghost Clown, and Space Kook are the six available variants. Each figure is available for $15, but as the "Blind Bag" part of the name implies, you just get a figure at random. Those interested in these figures can pre-order them on the BoxLunch site, and they'll be shipped between September 23 and October 3, 2025. Thanks to Kodi for sharing about these!
Even though it will still be a week-ish before Jada Toys' Wave 1 figures are released, they're already teasing one of the figures from the next wave! A tweet from Preternia.com revealed that the Sea Beast will be a part of Wave 2. No other details about the next wave been revealed at this time. Thanks to Juan for finding that tweet!
As a side note, given the obscurity of the series, it's really interesting to me how WB seems to have latched onto the Sea Beast from "Scoo-Be or Not Scoo-Be?" as a classic Scooby villain (between this and a number of other things it's been featured in like the LEGO sets). Not complaining at all though; it's awesome that a villain from one of the rarer episodes to be in the spotlight! Update: It was just announced at SDCC that Space Kook and sitting Scooby will also be featured in Wave 2, and Daphne will be featured in Wave 3! Check out the designs below from a tweet from Preternia.com. Each wave was announced to be a gang member and two monsters. In addition to this week's Sunday poll, we'll be doing this mid-week poll! I figured many people probably wouldn't have a strong opinion on these episodes, so I decided to do this one as a bonus poll, rather than have it be the focus of one of the weekly polls. The winner of this poll will still advance to the final round in August.
Half of the first season of Laff-a-Lympics was released on VHS in 1996 through four VHS tapes. After these sets, no further episodes were released on VHS. In case it's helpful to anyone for remembering a specific episode, I've listed of all the competitions for every episode here. So that folks have adequate time to vote, I'm going to give until Sunday night around 8 pm CST for this poll instead of the usual early Sunday morning deadline, which gives everyone an extra day to get their votes in! After a lengthy period without news on the Jada Toys action figures, we finally have some exciting info about when these are coming out! As you may remember, pre-orders for these opened up in March, but no date was announced. According to Big Bad Toy Store, the figures are estimated to ship out at the end of July! No specific date was given, but considering July ends in 10 days, they should ship out sometime in the next week. If you haven't pre-ordered these yet and want to, you can still do so here! The four figures coming out as a part of Wave 1 include Shaggy, include Shaggy/Scooby/The Mystery Machine, The Mummy of Anhka and the Creeper. Each figure is 1/12 scale (with the exception of the Mystery Machine, which is 1/24 scale) and is available for $30 (although the Mystery Machine figure is $32). For those interested in seeing a review to decide whether to buy these or not, the Robo Don't Know YouTube channel, who were sent the figures in advance by Jada Toys, has posted their review which can be watched here. In 2013, a multi-franchise video game entitled Scooby-Doo and Looney Tunes: Cartoon Universe was posted on the Cartoon Network website. The game is still available today on Steam, the 2DS, and the 3DS. However, the version on the Cartoon Network site is different than the version that exists today. The game was re-released in 2014 for Steam and the 2 and 3DS, without the cutscenes or mini-quests that the original had. The game is also no longer multiplayer on the currently-existing version. When Cartoon Network started purging games on their site in the early 2020s, the original game became lost media. A playthrough of the original game can be seen on the above video.
Credit goes to Juan for finding the playthrough video and suggesting this week's fun fact! Despite what you might think, The Scooby-Doo Show's amount of VHS releases were very limited. Only 11 out of 40 episodes received any sort of VHS release, and most of them were early season 1 episodes. Later, we'll also be doing a separate Laff-a-Lympics mid-way through the week. As I mentioned in the comments, I figured not too many people would have strong opinions between the episodes there, so I thought it made more sense to have that one be a "bonus poll" of sorts (although the winner will still advance to the final round.
With so many iconic episodes in last week's poll, the results were pretty close. "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair" takes the win for this series by just one vote! It moves ahead to the final round at the end of August. What is your favorite New Scooby-Doo Movies episode released on VHS? The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair - 16 The Loch Ness Mess - 15 The Secret of Shark Island - 15 The Caped Crusader Caper - 9 The Mystery of Haunted Island - 8 After a brief break last month, it appears HBO Max is actually going through with their plan of deleting all Scooby-Doo series from their service. What's New Scooby-Doo was previously rumored to be leaving HBO Max in August, and we now have official confirmation from Amazon that HBO Max will be removing the full series on August 1. This will just leave two Scooby series (Where Are You and The Scooby-Doo Show) and two movies (Scoob! and Trick or Treat) available on HBO Max.
It's worth noting that What's New Scooby-Doo is currently available on Tubi. It is possible the series will still be available to stream there after August 1, but there's been no info about whether they will also be removing it or not. As for the future of Scooby-Doo on HBO Max, it's rumored that they will be removing Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? and The Scooby-Doo Show on September 1. This info comes from the Reddit thread that's been 100% accurate in predicting the dates HBO Max will remove Scooby content. Based on this, it seems very likely that all Scooby-Doo series will be removed from HBO Max on September 1. There's still no info about if Scoob! and Trick or Treat will survive the purge. |
