What is your favorite dark episode of a traditionally comedy-focused Scooby-Doo series?  A few days ago, Young Actors Magazine's Instagram shared a casting call for Scooby-Doo: Origins, which is currently in progress of filming. Hylton Casting are currently searching for background actors between 18-29 years old to play campers. ProjectCasting shares that they are also looking for male photo doubles, stand-ins and a street band. The show is being filmed at the camp Talbot Pines in Rutledge, GA from April-September 2026. It seems "Talbot Pines" is the codename for this series. The casting call refers to the series as this, and some research shows no other info about Talbot Pines beyond casting calls. There are a couple other small tidbits about the live-action show that have surfaced this week. Mckenna Grace posted a TikTok of her and the other main actors attending a Renaissance Fair. It is unclear if this is a part of the show, or merely them hanging out, but I assume it's the latter. The TikTok video also includes Maxwell Simkins, which may mean he is involved in the series. No official confirmation of this yet, though. Mckenna has also shared a few times on Letterboxd that they are currently filming a number of night shoots for the series! Her reviews also share that during their off time, the cast has been watching horror movies together.  An exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum revealed that there was a scrapped episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? The episode, titled "Scooby-Doo Meets the Pumkin Giant," was pitched but never actually produced. It featured a giant pumpkin-headed monster as the villain. This is super cool, I honestly had no idea this episode existed before his post!  Less than a week after the announcement for Yokoso Scooby-Doo, the designs for Scooby-Doo Gokko have also been revealed! Amazon is now selling Scooby-Doo Gokko t-shirts, featuring the gang's designs for the series. The shirts are available in numerous different colors. Fifteen different designs and a tank top are now available. Each shirt is priced between $19.99 and $24.99. You can check out all the different designs on Amazon.  I was thinking about this question the other day, and thought it would be interested to do a poll on it. The three silliest, most comedy-focused Scooby series (the Scrappy shorts, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!) have featured at least one episode that experiments with integrating a dark tone into the show's comedic formula.
Subjective questions like these are difficult to set firm criteria for, but I picked what I feel are the most dark episodes of each series. There are a few other episodes in each series that are darker/spookier, but I'm sticking to the most significantly dark episodes of each series for this poll. "Into the Mouth of Madcap" and "Doo Not Disturb" are both noticably very dark compared to the show's usual vibe, so I included two for Be Cool, Scooby-Doo. I was really curious to see the results of last week's poll! I've never really had a sense of how many fans collect every release vs. just some of them. It was interesting to see it was a mix of pretty much all the options! Here are the results for last week's poll: How do you collect your Scooby-Doo home media releases? Collect only the releases I need to own all the episodes - 24 Collect all releases, regardless of if I already own every episode - 13 I do not own any Scooby-Doo home media sets - 7 Collect just the releases with interesting themes - 5 Collect a specific niche format of Scooby media, then pick and choose what other sets I want - 2  Variety has just broken the news that a brand new Scooby-Doo anime series, Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, is coming to Tubi in North America, and will air on Cartoon Network internationally. The series was previously announced in 2024 as Go-Go Mystery Machine, but has been renamed. The characters Etsuko and Toshiro in the original series description have been changed to Yume and Takumi, respectively. Yokoso translates to "Welcome" in English. No info on release date has been provided yet.
The series will feature Scooby and Shaggy as the main characters. It is unknown to what extent Fred, Daphne and Velma will be in the series, if at all. Scooby and Shaggy will be voiced by their normal voice actors, Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard. The show is directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, and co-produced by Francisco Paredes. OLM (an animation studio in Japan) will be responsible for the series' production alongside Warner Brothers Animation. Warner Animation president Sam Register provided this statement to Variety about the upcoming series: “We’re excited to partner on this next chapter as we push the Scooby-Doo franchise forward with its first-ever original anime series. Alongside the amazing artists at OLM, we’ll unmask a new batch of mysteries, signature hijinks, and – of course – plenty of Scooby Snacks, all brought to life through the dynamic artistry of anime.”  I've shared on here before that "Hassle in the Castle" is the most-released episode, both in terms of DVD releases and overall home media sets. I decided to do a deeper dive for today's fun fact to determine the most-released episodes on VHS and Blu-Ray.
For VHS, it is a tie between "A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts" and "The Headless Horseman of Halloween." Both episodes were released on four different VHS tapes. Interestingly, their inclusion on the Spookiest Tales VHS is what boosted them into the lead. A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts

The most-released piece of Scooby media on Blu-Ray is another tie between two unlikely contenders! "To Switch a Witch" and the 2002 live-action movie were released on four different Blu-Rays.  Before we dive into this week's poll, here are the results for last week's! What is your favorite episode where the culprit is never seen or mentioned before the unmasking? My assumption has been that many fans buy just the sets with themes that interest them, or collect any set that's released. However, I'm really curious to know how all of you collect Scooby-Doo home media sets! A big part of my inspiration for creating the How to Have a Complete Scooby-Doo Collection Guide is because I only collect the releases I need to own all the episodes. If a release comes out that eliminates the need to own a different release, I'll usually sell the DVDs I don't need anymore. For example, when Scooby's All-Star Laff A Lympics: The Complete Series Blu-Ray was released, I sold the previous volume sets and Spooky Games. (Don't take away my Scooby fan card, lol) There are a few exceptions to this. I have nostalgia over the Winter Wonderdog and Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies sets, so I keep those despite owning the Almost Complete Collection and Holiday Chills and Thrills set. I also have kept the Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Volume 1 VHS out of nostalgia, and The Ghoul, The Bat and the Ugly & To Switch a Witch because I always wanted that one as a kid before we got the complete first series of Scrappy lol. Since last mentioning my journey to collect all the rare Scooby VHS tapes with episodes unreleased anywhere else, I got super lucky and was able to find the Puppy Dog Tales VHS! The next one on my list is the Hanna-Barbera's Personal Favorites tape. Thus far, I've found a lot of UK versions of the tape online, but haven't seen the US version of the tape anywhere thus far. I don't think I've ever shared pics of my full Scooby home media collection on here! I've attached pics below :) Would love to see pics of others' collections if you want to share!    These are already in the other photos, but here are the rare pieces of Scooby media that I'm proud to own! :) As you can see, I got the Puppy Dog Tales VHS since last mentioning my goal of collecting the Scooby VHS tapes with unreleased media! The only VHS that I'm still looking to add to my collection is the Hanna-Barbera Personal Favorites tape.  Mckenna Grace's hairstylist, Matt Rez, has shared some new photos of Mckenna as Daphne on Instagram! The post shows a "before and after" slideshow of Mckenna going from blonde to redheaded for her upcoming role in Scooby-Doo: Origins. Matt was assisted by Tommy Cotton, Maddi Covelli, and Priscilla Valles according to his Instagram post. While there's no new info to share here, I thought it was cool that we got a behind-the-scenes look into Mckenna's transformation! The Internet/social media was in a very different place in the 2000s with the other two full-gang live action films, so this is the first time we've gotten something like this.
 In the What's New Scooby-Doo? episode "New Mexico, Old Monster," Shaggy meets up with his childhood friend Jimmy Proudwolf. Jimmy has a very similar personality and mannerisms to Shaggy, and has a dog named Shooby that looks like Scooby. With how similar to the two are, I found it really interesting to learn Jimmy is voiced by Billy West, who previously voiced Shaggy in Zombie Island.
