Amazon has just announced that the upcoming live-action feature "Daphne and Velma" will be released this May! The direct-to-DVD production will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. The film will be 72 minutes long. Here's the Amazon listing for the DVD and Blu-Ray release.
No other information on the DVD/Blu-Ray or film is currently available. In case you missed the previous post about it, here is the description of the film: Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state. I'm really excited to see how this film turns out, and how will present the two main female characters of the show in a potentially new and different light than we've seen before. Here's hoping for a great movie!

Amazon has just announced the release of an upcoming Scooby-Doo DVD on their website. The DVD is currently titled "Scooby-Doo! Sports," but I'm sure this is tentative. It is currently scheduled for release on June 5, 2018. This set will be only a single disc, and the total running time will be 260 minutes. It is currently unknown what episodes will be on the set. No other information is available at this time, but stay tuned for more info!
If you haven't gotten the memo yet, the fourteenth incarnation of Scooby-Doo, entitled Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, is coming to an end in just a few days, on March 18. Most likely, however, you probably didn't get the memo unless you read my post earlier this week. Sadly, I still have yet to see any promotion on either Boomerang or Warner Brothers part informing fans about the conclusion of this series.
I still remember all the hype 5 years ago that Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated was airing its final episodes on April 5, 2013, and how much people were looking forward to seeing how the series would end. Maybe this is why I'm disheartened to see that Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! is ending without much excitement from fans. As someone whose been so passionate about Scooby for years now, it's so crazy to see that this series is just going to air its final episode without anyone even really noticing. Like, I've not even seen a single person talk about it, which from my experience in the fandom is unheard of. In fact, I still remember when the announcement came out on ScoobyAddicts that SDMI was ending. There were pages and pages of replies and chat between fans, reminiscing about the series and how much we all enjoyed watching. The other day, I posted something on the ScoobyAddicts forum to the effect of what I posted on the blog about Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! ending, and as I write this, there is still not a single person who has replied, or even acknowledged that the show is finally ending in the US. (Please note, however, that I'm definitely not blaming anyone and didn't feel discouraged that no one replied. Just trying to illustrate the point that no one is interested in the show because Boomerang and WB don't promote it at all.) Of course, this is definitely not the fault of the fans. A network has a lot of power in creating awareness and excitement about a show. So far, Boomerang has done a worse job promoting the show than I even thought possible. Less than three weeks after the show began airing, back when the show was still airing on Cartoon Network, they switched the show's timeslot to mid-days without bothering to mention anything or promote it. This, as many of you know, was only the beginning of the show's mistreatment. After several lengthy hiatuses and an eventual airing of the final six episodes of season 1 in an overnight 2 a.m. slot on Boomerang (without promotion, I might add), the show was officially moved to the streaming service for the full second season. Just this past December around Christmastime, the first fifteen episodes were added to the service. Per the previous announcement, most US fans expected that the final eleven episodes would be added sometime on the streaming service. However, just this past Thursday, Boomerang made a last-minute decision to air the final eleven episodes on television, but in another overnight slot without so much as even a bit of promotion or heads up to the fans. In the process of keeping the blog update, I try to stay as up to date as possible on any Scooby news there may be. Due to the poor promotion, I was completely unaware of the episodes airing until yesterday (despite that they began airing on Thursday). Sadly, the promotion isn't even the worst part this time. Even when airing the episodes in an overnight death slot, when virtually no one is watching, they can't even keep the timeslot consistent. The final episodes are airing at random times throughout the overnight period every day, with the timeslot changing every single day for an unknown reason. As you can imagine, I was quite confused when I saw this. I still am. Boomerang literally has nothing to air in that overnight slot, so to make it nearly impossible to figure out when the episodes are airing just seems like they're intentionally trying to ensure the show's final few episodes won't actually be watched. This is why it is so depressing to see how badly Boomerang is abusing the show, even when there's really no reason to. Whilst typing up the post yesterday announcing the show was ending, I admittedly was a bit emotional. Being so passionate about the show and the franchise in general, it was really frustrating to see what a horrible way the show would be airing its finale episode (which should be a huge landmark for any show). It felt like the fans were powerless to Boomerang's extensive mistreatment of the show, and no one would even bother to acknowledge the show was ending, or remember fond memories of the show like was done with SDMI. It quickly occurred to me, that we actually aren't powerless at all. As fans, we have still have the power to remember the show fondly, and give it as special of a final sendoff that any other Scooby show has gotten in the past. Even if the poor promotion won't allow many fans to truly appreciate the show and celebrate its finale episode, doesn't mean we can't still remember the show fondly. Because of this, I've decided to do a bit of a special event on the site and blog beginning on the day the finale airs. The whole week will be centered around Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, as a way to celebrate the show. Each day, I will post a new article highlighting and discussing different aspects of the show. In addition to Monday's article, the Fun Fact post will also be BCSD-themed to celebrate the finale. Ideally, I would have liked to have some of the BCSD writers contribute an article or two as well. However, due to the very short timing, I don't think I'll be able to do this, as they all likely have very busy schedules and I don't want to throw a request at them without any notice. So, be sure to check back on the blog often next week, as there will be a new article every day to celebrate the show! Instead of letting the show fade away without mention, let's celebrate the end of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! in style! :) Despite "Jinkies" being Velma's most famous catchphrase, it was actually first said by Shaggy in "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair" from The New Scooby-Doo Movies while running from the Hooded Person. Surprisingly, Jinkies wasn't said at all in the original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?.
Some exciting news has just been released this morning that Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! will finally finish airing in the US over the course of this week. According to the Boomerang servlet schedule, the series is already in the process of airing its final 11 episodes in an overnight death slot on the Boomerang television network, despite that it was previously announced that the episodes would be exclusive to the streaming service. Though it appears that due to Boomerang's poor promotion, we've missed the official confirmation of the first four episodes airing. Apparently, the final 11 episodes began airing in the death slot last Thursday, March 8. According to the servlet, the final episode ("Professor Huh? Part 6 3/4) will air on Saturday, March 17, with the two eleven-minute episodes ("Pizza O'Possum's / The Curse of Half-Beard's Booty") once again being aired strangely out of order on Sunday, March 18. It is currently unknown when the final eleven episodes will be added to the streaming service.
Here is the schedule from the servlet. I've individually linked each of the days, as the servlet is unforunately very glitchy and it is somewhat tricky to navigate it: March 8 - American Goth March 9 - Omelettes Are Forever March 10 - Ghost in the Mystery Machine March 11 - Naughty or Ice March 12 5 a.m. - Night of the Upsetting Shorts March 13 4:30 a.m. - Junkyard Dogs March 14 4 a.m. - Protein Titans 2 March 15 4:30 a.m. - World of Witchcraft March 16 5 a.m. - Professor Huh? Part 1 March 17 5:30 a.m. - Professor Huh? Part 6 3/4 March 18 5 a.m. - Pizza O'Possum's / The Curse of Half-Beard's Booty I've noted each of the times here as well, since (pitifully) Boomerang isn't even keeping the times consistent on a daily basis. As I mentioned, I can't confirm the above four for sure due to Boomerang's complete lack of promotion, but if anyone can confirm they saw them (or even better, a link to an official schedule which lists them!), please let me know! I posted a screenshot of this email I received the other day on the ScoobyAddicts forum, but since it's relevant, I thought I'd post about it here as well.
The email highlights that Boomerang will be adding new shows, along with hard-to-find episodes. The features and organization of the app will be improved, including better content browsing, shuffle mode, customizable playlists, ratings, and recommendations. The streaming service will also be available through additional devices. Additionally, Boomerang is now available to watch in Spanish. I haven't previously posted this as I didn't feel it warranted its own post, though the missing episodes of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (episodes 23-25) and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (episodes 22, 23, and 26-30) have now been added to the streaming service also. Thanks to EntertainmentWeekly.com, we have our first look at what's to come in the Supernatural crossover, which will air Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. (central time zone) on the CW network. Here's what will happen in the episode, according to EW: After a case-of-the-week puts Dean in a wrestling match with the live plushy — not the show’s first — a grateful pawnshop owner offers the guys a free TV to say thanks. Sam’s not too keen on the idea, but Dean’s never one to turn down a gift. So, he takes the TV back to the bunker to create his “Dean Cave.” Only, everything’s not as it seems with the present. Spoiler: The boys are sucked into a Scooby-Doo cartoon. “Once they get over their amazement at being in the cartoon, two things happen,” co-showrunner Robert Singer tells EW. “They say, ’We’ve been in a situation like this before with the Trickster and I think we’re supposed to play this out.’ And then they realize they’re in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up.” In fact, Dean’s extensive Scooby knowledge will come in handy rather quickly when he recognizes the episode they’re in (which is based on the 1970 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode “A Night of Fright Is No Delight”). But this episode isn’t exactly a repeat. This time, there’s a Supernatural-level monster at work, and, as co-showrunner Andrew Dabb puts it, “It gets pretty dark.” Singer adds, “There are things you wouldn’t see in a regular Scooby-Doo cartoon.” In other words, the monster won’t be a man in a mask. “They walk into an old episode of Scooby-Doo,” explains Dabb. “But it may end up being a new episode of Supernatural.” EW has an exclusive first look at the hour, including a shot of Dean holding hands with Daphne, which is no accident. “Dean came of age in a time before the internet when Daphne wasn’t so bad,” Dabb says. “Dean has very strong opinions on all the Scooby characters, but especially Daphne and Fred.” And he’ll get to share them all when “Scoobynatural” airs on Thursday, March 29. This description has made me even more excited than before for the upcoming crossover event, and these two still images of the episode only amp up the excitement level further! Additionally, according to The Futon Critic, Scooby-Doo veteran writer Jim Krieg (who has written several episodes of What's New, Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, in addition to FrankenCreepy, the KISS film, Haunted Hollywood and the one Get A Clue episode which included the rest of the gang) will be writing this episode along with Supernatural writer Jeremy Adams.
Never having watched Supernatural, I wasn't particularly excited for this crossover previously. Having seen all of this new information, however, I can't wait to watch this now! I also was quite happy to see they used clips from "Boo Brothers" in the clip from the Entertainment Weekly article. That movie is so underappreciated in my opinion, so it's nice to see it getting some love for once! Hi everyone! I've been thinking about making some more updates to the site now ever since the new year. Recently, I've also gotten a few emails from people asking when I will start adding new content to the site again, and even a couple which asked if I was "done" updating the site now I that all the essential information has been added. I'm hoping to begin adding some amazing new stuff to the site soon, and I'm definitely far from being out of ideas. However, I wanted to get all of your feedback on which of the following ideas you'd like to see added to the site first. Whichever option wins simply means I will prioritize that first, and doesn't mean that the other options won't ever be added to the site. Here are the ideas I'm pondering adding, so let me know which option you want to see added to the site first! The first question asks about which update you'd most like to see implemented on the site, while the second and third questions ask for miscellaneous suggestions, if you have any. If you do not want to answer questions 2 and/or 3, you can just leave those responses blank and your response will still submit. As a reminder, the system will only allow you to vote once, and will delete all duplicate responses from the same IP address. Thanks so much for your input in advance, and I'm super excited to see what you guys suggest! The poll will close on March 16 at 1 p.m. (central) so if you have any input, make sure to respond to the poll before then! Please feel free to leave me any suggestions in the comments as well! :) CBS executive Fred Silverman originally came up with the rough concept for Scooby-Doo by watching the film "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," according to a 2015 interview with Emmy TV Legends. “I had always thought that kids in a haunted house would be a big hit. As a kid, I would go and look at Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and movies like that."
After the concept was initially rejected by CBS for being "too frightening" for children, Silverman revised his initial concept while still keeping the classic film in mind. “And our Abbott and Costello will be Scooby-Doo and Shaggy,” Silverman said. “In a matter of two hours we had revised the concept and it worked great.” |
